Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hi I commented while on my phone and pressed enter too quickly. I started this blog a few weeks ago to talk about my passion; sewing. I want it to be useful and also implement my brand of humor. I’m a novice when it comes to how this whole blogging world works, so I welcome feedback. Thanks!

    2. Hey! I just checked your page out! Two things I did notice! Your about me page is empty!! Also there is an empty text widget on your page! Even if you haven’t published anything in it we can still see it! 🙂

      If you look over to the right of your posts, you’ll see a bit of placeholder text — it’s meant to help you learn how to work with widgets, and you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

I am a new blogger… I’m looking to write uplifting content and discuss progress in my life with coping with postpartum depression / anxiety (heavy of anxiety discussions since that’s what I am currently struggling with most). I am working toward a career in the mental health field and just made my first blog post. If anyone would like to check it out I would so appreciate it!

    2. You’ll be surprised how often people *do* feel like blogging is a hobby and coping mechanism. If nothing else, it satisfies our need to reflect on and express ourselves, even if it’s to no one (but it feels good if it resonates with others). It’s definitely less stressful than, say, Open Mic Night.

      FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

      1. I’m not sure I finished my reply earlier. I had a customer come in and got off track. Anyway, I do believe I linked it back to my own page. I think I did it correctly when I posted on “Age” daily prompt but not sure. Thank you for catching the error

      2. Hi Michelle, I’ve written a postfor todays prompy relocate. Still not sure If I have done it correctly. I copied the post link …my life is so much better here. I went back to the post to link it so when the url comes up is that where I paste my link or have I messed it up? Can you check to see if I have posted correctly? Please.

    2. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags and categories on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags and categories down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

    2. You’ve definitely done a lot of work in such a short time! The excerpt from your first post looks like default text, though…anyway, I would like to suggest that since you make a lot of references to books, movies, etc., links would be nice in case your readers want to learn more about what you’re referencing. They may even want to order “The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind” on Amazon or find it in a library, you know?

      (I’ve read it too – makes a lot of sense for holiday shopping, no?)
