First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

      Here’s your homepage: https://askthinkdo.wordpress.com/

(And be sure to add your blog’s address to your profile — that way, people will be able to click on your name and go right to your blog. You can update that here: https://wordpress.com/me/public-profile/)

    2. Hi!
I checked out your recent post and found it to be great! I, too, have made promises to myself which I guess can be carried forward to the ‘New Year Resolutions List’!😂
Also, your site looks great! Best of luck!🌻

  1. Hey guys, so I started my blood about two weeks ago after a dreadful breakup I had. I always wanted to write but could never find the courage to do so. But no things have changed. I’ve found myself to be stronger. Here’s the link to my first blog. It’s not very great or awe inspiring. But it’s from my heart.

    The first one.

    1. Welcome 🙂

If you look over to the right of your posts, you’ll see a bit of placeholder text — it’s meant to help you learn how to work with widgets, and you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(For more on widgets, what they’re for, and how to use them, check out https://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/)

    1. Hi, the ‘murder’ in your link caught my attention.
I do like a good crime Novel. Hopefully I can source an audiobook as they are more convenient for me at the moment. 🙂

I would suggest though, that you edit the size of your photo – it could be cropped to half its size and still be very effective. 🙂

      1. Hi, you can find an audiobook version on audible but I think it is a bit expensive.

I didn’t know that I can edit the size of the photo. 😵 I will do that on my next blog post. Thank you for the suggestion. 😊

  4. Hello.
I had a hard time finding friends all the time. I never had much friends back at school and even after joining college it took me 3 years to find people who can try to understand me.
So i just think about why it’s hard for me to find people for myself and that sometimes gives answers to a few things.
A few words about that in my blog.

    1. I get you – I’m turning 25 this month too so a lot of what you’ve written about here I could have written myself! You have a very natural, approachable writing style too. Looking forward to seeing what else you’ve got to say!

  5. Hi everybody! I started writing during the week. I’ve been on a journey I’ve felt quite lost and found writing just helps a bit! I have MS but I’m still a normal person! Writing is a release for me I’ve not done much yet but I’m just trying o figure it all out at the moment. I’d love to talk to people and in the long run help people.

    Purpose…

  6. hey everyone, I’ve been doing this for about a month and still dont have any idea what i’m doing! I think it’ll take me a lifetime to get the knack. I’d like feedback on whether my post is a) too long, b) funny or not funny and c) a useful read. Criticism appreciated! https://wp.me/p9gmnk-C

  7. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

  9. Question: Will a slash following the “com” in my Website, then the title of a particular blog post, link readers to that site?

I haven’t tried it yet, as I’m new to posting comments on your First Friday series.

    1. Hi!
      Welcome to WordPress!
Well, write about anything that intrigues you! Books? Places? Poems? Interests? Animals? Nature? Anything at all.
I write poems, inspirational write-ups and I even post photographs that I take.
      Best of luck!🌻

  11. Welcome to the blogging world newbies! I wish you the best on your blogging adventures. When I started out I did not know what I was doing, nor the direction I wanted to go. With time and help from other bloggers that changed and I found my way. The best thing you can do when writing a blog is be yourself. I would also recommend using your own pictures. Happy Friday! I look forward to seeing what you all are writing!
