First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. You have a nicely crafted blog and I think it’ll take off nicely! 🙂 Also, welcome to the wonderful world of blogging!! 💫

    2. One thing I noticed — you’re using a lot of tags. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

    3. Hey, a nice beginning of the blog, interesting posts. Stuff you wrote is from the heart, that’s more important.
Just some suggestions on your blog design, you have social icons on your blog unused, you may delete them or link them to your social channels. Also, try to use “read more” tags to your posts so that whole post won’t load on your homepage, this makes homepage look nice and tidy. Hope that helps, keep writing and enjoy.

      1. Thank you so much for the advice! ^_^ I’ve debated on doing the “read more” tags. I feel like it might make people skip over some posts that might otherwise catch their eye. But as a new blogger, I don’t really know what catches a fellow blogger’s eye, lol. So I might try it out!

      2. Yes, read more might make people skip your post, but when “they” want to do it you should allow it. 😀 Because people always don’t like all the posts, if you do not put the tags then you will be forcing them to read all and that might prove to be counter productive too… 🙂

    1. Hey! I think your story is interesting enough for me to want to continue reading it… Just a heads up, you have yet to set your “Site Title”.

      Looking forward to part 2

    2. Hey, congratulations on your new blog! Nice first post!
Just want to suggest some customization, first your site needs a title, this is very important, do it from the “theme customization” section. You have also posted your social channel links in your post. Actually, there is a social icon set available as a widget, that will be the better design than adding the links manually to all posts. Also, your about page also needs an edit. Hope that helps… Good luck…

    1. Nice beginning of blogging! Nicely themed and well configured. Only thing I found was there is a text widget under your menu which needs an edit. Rest all good. Good luck!

  1. Hello People!

I was on hiatus due to military conscription, but have decided to start writing again recently. I write about stuff that I hope would be of help to anyone who reads my post. Articles that carry emotional weight.

I am still pretty new to writing and as such, any feedback would be appreciated. Here’s my most recent post:
The Wolf Who Never Loved https://wp.me/p80F7L-d3

If what I write is in any way helpful in changing your perspective of the world, do let me know. Thanks

    Sloth Truly,

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of individual posts (that is, not on your homepage) — you can remove or edit that by going to view one of your posts, then going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(For more on widgets, what they’re for, and how to use them, check out https://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/)

    1. Hi Emily! I just checked out your blog.. good start, although you might want to check your theme and settings because there’s no follow button and like button appearing.. you can see that when you customize your setting.. or maybe if you are planning to change your theme, that might help..

  2. I’m aware that this sounds fairly niche, but bear with me!

I recently started blogging about “onomastic oddities”: all things names and naming, plus the stories and trends behind it all. I’ve written a few posts now but my very first one “The Trendiest Name of All Time?” is here:

The Trendiest Name of All Time?

    I hope you enjoy it!

  4. My first entry was almost two weeks ago. I have had a time at getting the pingback, and yesterday was my first success with it. It has made a big difference in my day. I look forward to see and write about the daily topic. I have read some really good stuff, and I have found some blogs that I really enjoy following. Happy to be a part of. An easy way to start cutting down: get rid of super-general tags that aren’t actually central to the post, like “cold” or “car.” Think more specifically about your post and what it’s really about, and think about what *you* would search for to find a post like this.

      1. um sure!
This is what I have learnt..
Do not compromise on the quality of your posts.
Don’t engage in the ‘like for like’ and ‘follow for follow’ sprees because they won’t really do you good in the long run.
Community Pool and First Friday posts are important. Make sure to comment and let people know about you and your blog.
And yes, Keep engaging with fellow bloggers!🌸
