First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hey everyone! I started a personal/writing blog called An Undivided Canvas just a couple of days ago. Its name is as such because I wanted the blog to be a sort of landscape which I could play around in, on which I could walk and explore in any direction without being self conscious or afraid. If that makes sense 😂

I’ve posted a little, but here’s my first one: https://undividedcanvas.wordpress.com/2017/11/02/reflections-blog-briefs/

I would be very grateful for any feedback on the following:
    1. Blog content: Am I writing on too many topics, or being too focussed on my own country’s context? How varied should a blog’s content be in order to draw in consistent readers?
    2. Post’s title: any recommendations on how to make them attention catching?
    3. Writing style: Is too formal? ;A;

I’m also undecided on my posting frequency. I’m thinking of a flash fiction/prompt response per day, and a longer piece once every couple of days. Those could be reflections, or short stories when I have the time to write them. I don’t know where reblogs would fit in though.

A little long, but thanks for any comments on this guys 🙂 I’d love to check out the rest of us newbie blogs too!

  2. Hi! Made my first post. Really excited about it.

Well with Thor and Justice League hitting the theaters this November, fans are pretty excited about the clash of the cinematic universes. Well, before you hit the theaters here are a list of things that you need to know if you have missed the previous movies. And if you havent, hey you are still gonna read it hoping for some missed out Easter eggs, right? Well, give it a read and do follow for some freshly brewed content. Do let me know what you think about it in comments. Spread Love!

      1. You write from the bottom of your heart, and I think that’s definitely the major drawing point of your blog.

You’re doing it a diary style, if I understand correctly? I also noticed in your latest post that it seemed like a narrative, but I couldn’t really tell whether it was fiction or fact. Are you thinking of including creative pieces in there as well?

In terms of organisation, I think if you’re including fictional works in addition to your diary entries, you could simply split them as such categories in your header/sidebar.

If its just diary entries, maybe you could do it by topics? If you don’t know what topics you’re gonna write about, you could leave it as it is first, then when you write more posts, you can proceed from there.

Those are my thoughts on your lovely blog. I hope they could be of help!

      2. Hey. I don’t even know your name. Thanks a lot for all your comments. I really appreciate it. My latest post isn’t some fiction. The post title is the day when my grandfather passed away. There’s so much you feel in a day, barely I get to put those feelings into words. So I don’t write fiction. Reality is better.

      3. Ahh I see, sorry for misunderstanding, and I’m really sorry for your loss.

Feeling so much in a day – isn’t that what writing is for? And well, while I do think living in reality is preferable to living in fiction, fiction can resonate with a wider audience, I think, because if written well, the core of the conflict is something experienced by all humans, and is applicable to all contexts regardless of how fantastical they may be.

      4. I feel I can’t write fiction. It will be like changing the facts of reality just to make your writing relatable for a larger audience. At this point, I am just not comfortable doing that. Maybe I will learn to write fiction too someday!

      5. Haha I’m sure you’ll be able to with practice. 🙂 I’m not great with poetry, but I hope to be able to write them one day too!

I wouldn’t call it changing the facts of reality, per se, more like you’re creating something out of what you understand of reality, something which is aesthetically pleasing to readers.

I absolutely loved reading your recent post! Humanity needs to find it’s way out of the dark jungles of cruelty. I, too, recently wrote a poem which portrays the importance of being kind. Would love to know what you think about it!

  3. This is the first time I ever attempt to start a blog. Ever since I was young, I never truly allowed my self to actually do what I LOVE which is to write and express myself through words. Growing up was very difficult for me so I finally have this chance to be free and not be hide in my shell. My goal is to encourage others to do the same with anything they love to do in their own life. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to know about or my blog . 2. Hi and welcome. I will give you the same advice my sister gave me when I started. Just write, just write. Don’t overthink it. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Just write and it will come.

    3. You blog looks lovely, great start. If you can add an “About” section which I can see hasn’t been done/changed yet that would be good so when people visit your blog they can see what topic your writing about. You get edit the “about” page in the “pages” section -> “about”. Hope this helps & welcome to word press! 😘😁
