To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  2. Hey all. I’ve done a new post on my family blog. It’s a fairly new blog so still messing with layout and such so any feedback will be appreciated. This post is about my oldest daughter’s birthday which includes vomit! But no alcohol….she’s 11 after all. I’ll try and check your blogs out too (no internet at home till next week so a bit intermittent getting online). Thanks to anyone who has a look and double thanks to those that leave a comment on here or the blog. Cheers

  14. Hello! I just posted the third part of my new prose poetry series “Apart From You” and would love some feedback.

    The series is about a couple in a long distance relationship and all the struggles that come with. Each part focuses on fears and thoughts the characters have and how the relationship affects them. The cool thing about this series is that you don’t need to read all parts in order to understand it. Everyone interprets something different when reading it, you should give it a try!

  22. I know I posted something in here the other day, and that people probably don’t check this far down, but: would someone be kind enough to explain how one goes about reposting? I think it’s different than reblogging. Basically I see people post the same thing twice without losing likes and comments. Please help. 😅😁

  23. I like to stir things up a bit and say what’s not-so-expected or the opposite of what the norms are in society. I try to do this in a fun, mildly sarcastic way while incorporating metaphors of another art that i love; fashion.

    1. I read your blog and really liked it. I think it is well written and insightful, albeit sparking a scary line of thinking. (Terminator anyone?) The overall look of the blog is great. I like the black background but I would have liked to seen a bit bigger font size. I look forward to reading more.

      1. Thank you for the comments and I’ll take the font size onboard as I’ve been playing around with the layout for a while now.
        As I say in the post I think it has the potential to be terrifying but equally it be revolutionary in how it could advance our lives if we take control of the direction.
        Your blog is set out really well and is accessible. I’d perhaps open a section to one particular topic of interest.

    2. Your recent post is interesting and thought-provoking. Two things would make it easier for a wider audience. (1) Change the background to one easier on the eyes. My eyes get tired looking at a black background. (2) Break your post apart into multiple shorter posts. Many people will not read longer posts. If you have an introductory post with a series of follow-on posts, it might appeal to more people. https://gracelead.co

    1. That story is the reason I hate to love short stories. I never want them to end. There is so much more to be said there. What causes the water? Why do people change? What does that kindness mean? Again, this is what there is to love about short stories. They spark the readers imagination and force them to think creatively. So many people have lost their imaginations. This is a great story. I can’t wait to dive into your blog and read more.

    1. Your article was a bit lengthy, but I enjoyed it. I do have a question about one paragraph. “Let’s image that we chose a color in Figure 4, say the green that has an arrow pointing to it. As was the case last week, let’s say that we suddenly decided that we want a green that is a little “yellower.” With the spectrum in Figure 4, it is not too hard to choose a “yellower” green:” Shouldn’t the last sentence refer to Figure 5 since it’s the one without the black bands? https://gracelead.co

  30. I’m new to the whole blogging scene, and have only posted about 5 or 6 articles. I’ve gotten a decent amount of views for being brand new I think but nobody seems to be leaving comments. Any suggestions in how to get people talking. The whole reason I started to blog was to convey a message to help people and to get them thinking/talking about it. I’d be happy to take any other suggestions related to the blog as well (i.e. formatting, layout, article content, etc.).

    2. Maybe that could be a blog topic. Address the topic of commenting and feedback and write your article TO your viewers as if you were having a conversation with them. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t. It may give them an easier opening to respond to instead of at. Good luck.

      1. Thank you for the great advice. I’ve been experimenting somewhat with framing questions/topics with respect to the readers. Like I said, I’m new to this whole game so I’m learning as I go. I appreciate you taking the time to give me some sound advice! Time will tell! 🙂

      1. You know, I didn’t even think about maybe doing a survey. That’d be sure to get people thinking and talking. Maybe I can even post a question at the end of an article asking people what their take on the information is. Thanks for the great resource!

    5. You have some great content on your blog! I think there are some actionable items you can follow to increase the number of comments you get.

      First, try literally asking for comments at the bottom of your blog post. At the very end of the article, pose a question to your audience and then tell them you look forward to reading their answers in the comments section. For example, at the end of your “The Bandwagon Cycle” post you could say: Which bandwagon trend have you succumbed to in the past? I look forward to reading your answer in the comments section below!”

      Second, you are displaying the full content of every post on your home page. Because of your page layout, the “Leave a Comment” link is located all the way at the top of the posts on your home page. If you change your layout to only display post excerpts on your home page then readers will click in to each blog post individually to read the content of the blog and the “Leave a Comment” link should be at the bottom of the post for your readers to click on easily without having to hunt for it. (Sorry for the run-on sentence, but I’m too lazy to fix it right now). You can make this change by going to Customize –> Content Options –> click on Post Excerpt under the Blog Display section.

      Third, when you post in Community Pool, as readers to read a particular post and leave their thoughts in the comments section instead of in the Community Pool.

      Lastly, leave comments on other blogs and include a link to your blog in the closing of your comment, as seen below.
