If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. I just learned how to do my pictures from your blog. I’m so new to this world that I do not even know how to “follow” a blog. I’m really feeling old. Thank you fir sharing your insight.

    1. Nice blog and congratulations! As someone suggested, you have to enable the “Like” button. You can do it from post settings while you go to edit mode. Your about page also needs an edit.
      Good luck and have fun!

      1. I love your writing style. And your blog is great. The only thing I would suggest is adding pictures to your post. I use stock images pertaining to the topic I’m discussing. Make you could find some related to your writing prompts.

      2. Thank you! I do sometimes add pictures, but I’m usually writing on my kindle (it’s practically an I-pad) at random times when inspiration hits me. 😂 but I will add pictures to my prompts.

      4. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that — paste the whole thing right into a comment here.

    1. You go to your blog home page and copy and paste the main link in the URL section. (Where you would type an website address normally)

As for those who don’t know how to get to ones blog without a post. You can very easily click on their name in the comment section. It is highlighted click it and it will take you to the blog in the reader. If you want to view their actual blog simply click their main name on top of the blog reader or on the side and it will go to their main blog. I never personally needed a link to get to anyones blog as long as they leave a comment. 😛

      Hope this helps!

As for your blog, I quite enjoyed the short easy reads. I also like the way you write, keep it up! 🙂

    2. I like to take writing prompts myself, from WordPress’ own Daily Post Prompts; I might pay another visit sometime and write my response to your prompts! Best of luck to you, With 💘-JW 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

    1. Hi there Kira! Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. I hope you’ll enjoy it! 😃

I sincerely like the layout on your vibe. Wow. Makes me almost want to go and give a makeover to my own! I think you’ll find you’ll have loads to say once you get into the swing of things.

One little thing: be sure to edit some of the filler text left on the blog that WordPress includes as examples. Do keep posting! You have a nice conversational voice. One last thing: use a combination of tags and categories so other bloggers can find you (as well as First Friday and the Community Pool) but do know to use no more than fifteen combined; more than that and WP filters it out as spam.

      Cheers and happy blogging! 😃💫

    2. Hey, if you do not have a specific topic for your blog, then why don’t you try a VARIETY blog, like mine?! Surely it might draw your readers a whole lot better that way! Either way, may I wish you the very best of luck in your blog. Good luck, With 💘-JW

  3. Greetings to all the new bloggers out there!

I am a new blogger and I focus mainly on creative writing. I am publishing some of my work which I have been doing in a creative writing course I’m currently taking.
My first post is an autobiographical piece. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I’m very interested in improving my work so if there are any English language or literature teacher’s out there I would really appreciate some feedback. I’m happy to receive feedback from anyone who would like to read.

  4. Hello everyone! I’m a new blogger writing about my life as a wife, mother and a survivor of domestic violence. This is the link to the first blog I did on Monday. I have posted everyday since then and have one scheduled to go out this afternoon at 3. I would be happy to receive any kind of feedback you can give me about my blog…what you liked…what you didn’t and how I can improve. Thank you in advance!

    2. It looks like a great blog! I like the mixture of stories and recipes 🙂 As for improvements, I think adding a ‘read more’ section in your posts would be nice so it’s easier to go through posts on your home page. Thanks for posting!

    3. I just want to commend you for writing about your experience about being a survivor of domestic violence. My mother went through domestic violence with both my sister’s father and mine and I know the feelings that you have from the experience are quite raw. So I will definitely be tuning in to read your blog.

      1. Thank you. It is such a taboo subject and no one likes to talk about it. I just feel that if I can touch one person, let them know it’s okay to tell their story maybe we can work together to make it something that is no longer hidden and whispered about. To make it okay to seek help and not be afraid or ashamed by it.

    2. I really like your honesty about what you’re doing and I think that’s an important thing to establish with the readers. Your logo is cool and I like your blog name. I feel that as long as you are honest about what you are going through, you will be just fine.

    1. Yes so true. One of my biggest obstacles was to start admitting my mistakes. Once I overcame the stupidity of my stubborn ego I’ve realized that admitting my mistakes made me find freedom. Thank you for the post keep up with the good work and Good Luck!

      1. It’s your blog, your choice. Without choosing one or deleting what’s currently there, your blog will appear in the Reader as “Site Title,” though. The email notifications your followers get when you publish new posts will also say “Site Title.”

      1. in addition to the other comments I would add a like button and read more clicks to the end of your posts. So that people don’t have to scroll through entire posts before getting to the next one. Otherwise good start 🙂

Also there are many videos on wordpress to using widgets just google it up, you will find it very easy, i am sure. 🙂 just try them out to see which one does what – since a lot of them behave differently in different themes.

    1. There are some great guided courses at http://bloggingu.wordpress.com, and if you feel like you could use a little more help with the ins and outs of WordPress.com, there’s a useful “getting started” tutorial here: http://learn.wordpress.com.

A great place to start is your title — it looks like you haven’t given your site a title yet! If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.
