Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hey guys!
For the first time ever, I tried creative writing without having a particular person on my mind. This one isn’t /for/ anyone I know or written /to/ an actual person.
But I hope its feel still comes through.
Do check it out and let me know what you think! 🙂

I’d be glad to return the favor 🙂

      1. Thank you so much!
Just checked out a couple of your posts. The last one was the perfect way to put something I believe in, too! Your blog is so well-written and sophisticated. Glad I found you!

    1. Wow… magnificent pieces that you have, I particularly like your short stories, they are very expressive and you manage to capture all those details in a swoop. Try not to lock your posts, let it be free, if you are afraid of it being an issue, change the names, the dates, the major names for the post. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

      1. Thank you SO much! I’m super flattered by that little notif bomb you dropped on my blog there :’). Really appreciate it. It’s very encouraging a thing to do <3.
I'm glad you liked my posts.
About the locked posts, some of them are only locked temporarily as I've submitted some of my poetry in a contest and the pieces being public would be against the rules. And the others, I promise, will be unlocked some day. Maybe in a year or so 🙂

        Thank you so much again!
I will. Going over to check your work now :3

  2. Hi!
Still really new to blogging, and I’m hoping to offer insights into exercise and sports which I would have liked to read about when I first started getting into sports (I was REALLY not into exercise when I was younger).
I’m not sure whether my posts are too long or could be made slightly more readable though, so would appreciate feedback from more experienced bloggers. https://thegymgirlblog.wordpress.com

I’d also like to hear general tips on growing a readership – content is key, obviously, but are there specific ways you make sure your content is found by like-minded people?

Any feedback via replies to this post would be much appreciated – many thanks in advance!

    1. I’m not the most experienced blogger, but I like the length of your posts! they keep the reader engaged and is personally something I struggle with! A good way to build readers is to publicise on your social networks as well as exactly what you’re doing! I’ve found that publicising on social networks do not always mean more followers though as people tend to just click on the link you provide and not bother with signing up, the statistic says they’re looking though!

    1. I loved your post – it was very insightful. It’d be great if there was something to read in the ‘About’ section, as that lets me know what you’re going to be writing about. However, your layout looks awesome and your writing is good! 🙂

    2. I really love the layout of your blog, it is sombre and really grand. Your writings are really well-paced, and the ideas are very insightful. A little footnote, instead of showing the whole post on your home page, show just a snippet of it, your about page is in need of info, all of those could be edited by pressing the customise button on your page. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

  4. Hi, can I ask a random question. Do you think photos are important on blogs. I have been looking a few peoples blogs and notice many of them have photos? Does this enhance the blogging story?

    Liked by 4 people

    1. Personally, it is quite a must to have pictures on your blog because most of the people like photos more than the words. The pictures are like a mantle to represent your work, it is like a book cover, figuratively. I have browsed through some of your writings, it is nice, but you can work on some emphasization on details. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    2. Yes it definitely can enhance the story and like dynamicstatis said it really depends on what it is you are trying to convey. I don’t particularly like photos in a post because it tends to make it too busy and distracting. I’ve tried a few times and didn’t
really like it so i prefer to leave them out.

    3. Like other people have said, I really think it depends on the post and what you are going for. I always have several pictures, but since mine is a food/cooking blog, pictures are pretty much expected, as they help the reader know what to expect and catch their eye (and hopefully make their stomach growl). Other blogs I’ve seen, though, the pictures have almost been more of a distraction, sometimes even making text really tough to read. I would just say to make sure to make any pictures you include add to to the experience rather than distract.

  5. About three weeks ago, I was harassed by my interviewee who turned out to be a perv.

This article shouldn’t have existed but I realize that I just can’t stay silent anymore.
As journalists, we shouldn’t just stand up for justice and the victims of crimes and government persecution. When something happens to us, we should be bold to stand up for ourselves too.

I invite everyone to read about my story and make this viral because statistics have shown that about 90 percent of sexually-harassed victims stay silent. We should put a stop to this:

How I interviewed a professional and found out he’s a perv

    2. Your blog overall is minimalistic and has a clean, easy to navigate layout. I’d suggest adding a few more widgets, such as a follow button, and when you have more posts written a widget that shows your ‘latest/most popular posts’, another one to consider is linking social media as this will help with blog growth.

I’d also suggest adding more information, once you’ve settled in with your blog, to your About Page either about yourself or the potential you see for your blog. To help organise your posts and make them easier to find you should consider adding categories and adding tags to them. I’ve read your first post but I can’t seem to find the ‘like’ button for it, only the comments section.

      I hope this was useful!!

  6. Hey! I’m a new blogger. I wrote my first proper blog today and I would really appreciate brutally honest opinions because those will help me grow as a blogger. But don’t be too mean 😅 I’m starting a blog because I think it will really boost my confidence and also as I lack in having friends this will be a really nice place to express myself and interact with others. I would love to hear your thoughts and it would mean a lot to me if you would take some time to read my post and give me feedback. Thanks 😊

    1. Wonderful start! Loving your view point on equality, I also share the same point of view, I give respect to everyone, I do not care who you are, I would have a mutual respect to you, but if you are an annoying or someone bad, you deserve none of my respect. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    2. Your blog overall has a lot of nice, complimentary colours and a good theme to go along with it. I like that you have a lot of useful widgets and social media linked to your blog as well because this will help in growing your site. One thing I’d say would be to either remove or edit the text widget you have at the bottom of the page and once you’ve written more posts to add a ‘latest/most popular posts’ widgets.

In terms of your writing, I’d recommend splitting up the larger paragraphs into shorter ones because then the writing will be easier to follow, I know that you already have a ‘first blog post’ which states a little more about yourself and the potential you see for your blog, but consider adding this information to a more permanent About Page with some images as well, it’ll add visual appeal.
