Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    2. I hope so, paminat0r. I hope the WordPress people see this post and look into it, if they already haven’t. WP powers like 27% of the internet, and having more accessible options like that so common would be great!

  1. Afternoon, everyone! I’ve been blogging for a few months now and I’m still trying to figure out what works for me. I think I mainly need some feedback to know exactly what I’m doing right and wrong, as everyone I know isn’t very helpful aha

Any feedback on my blog or on my last few posts would be wonderful :>
    Thank you!

  3. I love your post. Everything you pointed out was so true. I visited China back in 2005 (I know forever ago) and it seem the overall atmosphere is the same. Did you happen to go to the great wall? That was an amazing sight and climbing it to the top of breath taking. Worth the whole trip 10X over. I was in a small shopping area in china and we actually had to pay to use to toilet. There was a lady standing by the door who gave us all a few strips of toilet paper and that was it. Definitely an experience but what an amazing country over all. I might have missed it- How long were you there? I was only there for about 1 week. I wish I could have seen more of the country. Are you going to write more about your time in China? I’m going to follow you because I’d love to read more about it. Also, if you have a second can you please check out my writings and tell me what you think? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks! https://bloggerinablogworld.com/

  4. HELLO ALL: would love some feedback on this political blog I’ve started; not really what people seem to be using WordPress for, so if you’re also political blog (left/right wing/wherever in the world) let me know!

All feedback is appreciated! I’ll link the blog as there’s only two posts and both are on the homepage: https://avasantina.wordpress.com/

  5. Hey my people! I have a new book review out on The One by John Marrs and would like some feedback. My writing style is starting to change from a more silly, slang-written style to more professional and I don’t know how I feel about that honestly.

If you’d like to, I’d appreciate some feedback, advice, and/or tips. https://tizzymatic.wordpress.com

      1. I never liked the professional way of things, but I accept changes that I do unintentionally. Just seems like the quality is a bit better in way, right? Thank you, Yanni.

    1. Hey! I’ve just read your book review blog! It actually made me want to to read the book, so job done in that respect. However, I’ve got a few pointers for you.

Dude, that was long. It was more like an essay than a review. Try to keep it shorter. When we’re heading into the land of headings and sub headings, you’re only going to make people click away. I can see you clearly want to engage and encourage a discussion but leave those to the comments.

Try to stick to a plan, intro, main themes, things you liked, things you didn’t, questions raised and a conclusion. Keep things a bit tighter so the reader of the blog can see where the post is going.

Remember, the main purpose should be to either recommend or not recommend. Readers want to know the main story arc and if it’s worth buying. Don’t delve too deeply into things.

Anyway, I hope that helps and keep you the good work! Love&Peas x

      1. Thank you! This was my first time writing this long as a way of trying out if it would be better longer or shorter, so I understand where you’re coming from. I’ll take your advice.

    1. Hey there! I’ve just read your blog post. A lovely artist to review! I’ve got a few tips for you. (sorry, I’m an English teacher so you’re really in for it!)

Try making your sentences a bit snappier. For example, “Out of all of the vintage acts to have come out in recent times, Lana Del Rey is probably the only one that has pulled it off well enough to not be considered a modern day hipster.”… Is quite a clunky opening. How about… “Vintage, classic, moody, words that might spring to mind when thinking about singer and songwriter, Lana Del Rey.”

Try to cut your word count down a little. For a review it felt quite long. When you read your draft cut out sentences that don’t bring anything new to your paragraph.

Try mixing it up using a thesaurus. Search for some interesting synonyms and try not to use the same adjectives over and over.

I hope those help. Clearly you’ve got excellent taste in music so keep up the good work. Love&Peas x

      1. Thank you for checking out my blog! I really appreciate you taking time to give me some pointers. I definitely agree about the opening and using the same adjectives over and over. I’ll go back through the post and see what I can do better next time.

    1. Hey there! I love the main image used on your blog but it’s missing a logo or a title, something that you can instantly recognise. Also, the topics of the blog posts are a bit all over the place. Maybe concentrate on a few core themes or ideas to build up a following. I hope that helped and look forward to seeing what you do next. Love&Peas. X

    1. Hi there!! I love your writing style: it’s full of your personality and it’s got a fantastic flow! And don’t apologize for your nerdiness; it’s endearing. Well, okay, as a fellow nerd *coughs fan girl coughs* 😅 I’m all for promoting what you love. I have not gotten into Doctor Who yet. I’ve been contemplating it. The BBC has already devoured my soul with Sherlock. And as a result, I know a lot of Who things because of tumblr’s SuperWhoLock fascination. (Who’s the nerd now? Hahaha). Anyway, that’s enough of my tangent.
That bread looks amazing! Thanks for sharing. Now I’m off to check out more of your blog. 😃 Thanks for sharing and happy blogging! 💫

  6. Hello everybody! I’ve always been a good writer, but have never devoted myself to actually writing a blog consistently. I am a huge music fan. I especially enjoy discussing the music I grew up on during the 80’s and 90’s. Just looking to have some fun with this and hopefully grow an audience. Any advice both on my post and how to gain more of a following would be greatly appreciated. The layout of the blog could use a little work, but I fee like my content is pretty good. Let me know what you think.

      1. The fact that there aren’t a lot of music blogs is the exact reason I want to try it…that and I have a passion for what I am writing about. I will take a look at the layout. Thanks for the feedback!
