Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello everybody,

I have been blogging for almost month. I have been writing in categories such as poetry, fiction, book reviews and opinion pieces. If you like reading any of these things, you can check my blog.
My latest blog post is a humorous short story. It took me a long time to write this one, because humour is not my strong point.

    An EXcellent Affair

I would love to hear everybody’s thoughts on this post.

  2. I started blogging when I went back to grad school at 50, I talked a lot about what that was like. That was way back in 2006. Now the blog is more general…though one of my themes (aside from my adorable dog who sometimes blogs herself when I’m not looking) is truck safety. This comes from the fact my dad was killed by a tired trucker back in 2004. So now I’m actively working to fend off legislation that would allow bigger or heavier trucks on our roads, and working toward requiring safety equipment.

So my question is…when I write about truck stuff, even though most of my audience (maybe not the most new followers) know about dad’s story….well, those posts usually get a lot fewer comments. And I’d like those posts to be as engaging as others I write about running, cooking, gardens and dogs. Because they are as or more important.

The post presently up on my blog is an example. I know. No pictures. But not everyone wants to see a crushed car.

    Any advice?

      1. Thanks I’ll have to check out your blog. I’ve found relief by leaning into God & using natural supplements. I’m able to recognize when I’m about to go down that path, it helps me pause and process in a healthy manner.

    1. I really liked your blog! Especially the part about every kid in the 80s and 90s dreaming of growing up to be writer. That is too true and I still hold on to that dream tightly. Also, thank you for checking out my blog earlier- I really appreciate it. I look forward to more of your writings!

    1. What a fun post you’ve shared!!! Also, I think the real reason I was intrigued to visit your post because of “Wacky Wednesday.” From the brief glance over I saw, which I promise I shall rectify and give it a more in-depth perusal, is fantastic! It’s simply, yet eye catching. Thanks for sharing and happy blogging!! 🙂💫

    1. Hey Alice!
Firstly, what a beautiful layout you have. Just the header photo and the way you’ve neatly laid out everything made me want to curl up and read everything you post. Really great job on the layout!
I also like your work..you write well! Its simple and easy to connect. Reading at Emma at 5?! That’s admirable!

  6. Happy Monday, everyone! I went off the grid last week to get myself back in order after feeling a bit burnt out from the blog. I’ve got a recap of what I was up to during that hiatus as my most recent post that I’d love for you all to check out. You can find said post here: http://www.sibillerose.com/2017/07/week-in-review-7-16-17-7-23-17/ I’m always happy to return the favor and help out my fellow bloggers.

    Thanks, everyone!

  7. Hi there!

I posted an entry last night about a topic I am very sensitive about. If you loook at it one way, you would think that it is somewhat inconsequential, however, since nothing very disturbing has happened in my life (thank heavens), such small incidents do seem to annoy me. When people expressed their thoughts about this particular aspect of my appearance, I was not able to retaliate but I have done so through my post. I would be happy if you took the time to read it because, I would like to know whether my stand is reasonable or whether it is reasonable to be annoyed by such occurrences even. It is a short post so it won’t take you long to read.
Here is the link to my post:

Against the age-old persecution of body hair

Also, I had a querry about a technical aspect of using the wordpress reader but I am not sure whether this is the place where I could get it solved. Nevertheless, the question is:
Is there a way to select a few posts of other bloggers which I found very informative or amusing and forming a folder or something to refer to them when I want to? Like a playlist of your favourite music? There is an option of browsing through the posts I like but not all posts I ‘liked’ may have struck me. I hope you guys might be able to help. Thanks anyway!

  8. Hello everyone! Let’s have a fun swim in the Pool 🙂

I recently posted a review of a somewhat popular bestselling novel. I’ve seen a lot of other WP posts about the same book, so hopefully I brought some new ideas!

  9. Hi, everyone! I recently tried a WordPress daily prompt for the first time (the word was dormant) and I think it turned out pretty well- https://magicquill17.wordpress.com/2017/07/23/slumbering-volcano/
It’s about domestic violence and women empowerment. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or advice on it.
As a whole, I write poems, short stories and flash fiction and parodies of famous poems on my blog. Sometimes I also give words to some random/humorous thoughts of mine and post about them.
Anyone who’s into any of the above things can check out my blog. Feel free to offer constructive criticism if you want.
    Cheers! 🙂

    1. Hi there! I had to say, on difficult content to read, you did a great job writing it. Was it difficult for you to write? Thanks so much for sharing! 💫

      1. Thanks for your appreciation, buddy! Sure, I felt a little pinch at my heart when I wrote about Azar being beaten up, but if these things aren’t brought out in public, they can never be solved. After all, you can solve a problem only when you KNOW it, right? Needless to say, I did a little hip-hip-hurray mentally when she slapped her hubby back 🙂

      2. You’re welcome and I understand! It’s a subject I’m passionate about and I don’t see much written (or spoken) about it; you’re correct that it needs to be a known problem. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

      3. Yes. The thing is, most of us are (unfortunately) afraid of exploring taboo topics. We’re afraid our character will be vilified. Even my first short story on this blog was on an unsettling topic- child prostitution. People need to be more open-minded. If I write about domestic violence, I’m not encouraging it- rather, I’m trying to create awareness about it. People should understand that.
Always a pleasure sharing my writings with the rest of the world! 🙂

  10. Hi Folks! Like everyone else, just looking for some views and possible feedback. Thanks in advance!

Today’s post continues on my 80’s arcade games nostalgia kick. I revisit a few key arcade games that changed the way games used controls, at least for me. This will most likely only appeal to other gamers and those who grew up in the 80’s. 🙂

    Thanks again!

Thanks for being informative and teaching me things I didnt know. Keep up the great work and I followed you so I don’t miss out on any of your posts.

  11. My blog is 4 weeks old (still trying to find my identity in the blogosphere). I’m planning a post that is the flip side to this one I posted 3 weeks ago about positive thinking. The new post will be about getting rid of negative thoughts. Do you have any suggestions for how this post might have been better so I can apply your input to the follow up post? Thanks, and I’m glad I found this community! https://ifitbringsyoujoy.com/the-power-of-positive-thinking/

    1. Yes yes yes! What a great post! I too have learned over the years how drastically different my life is once I started changing my way of thinking. The power of positive thinking is incredible and it allows us to appreciate each day and to face tough situations a lot better than if we had faced them with negative thoughts. I loved reading this and thank you for sharing. I too agree with sharing more positivity in life so if you are interested, I have a photo blog post filled with many pictures and words of wisdom.

    2. Congratulations, you’ve started your Blog. I think you have some great ideas for your blog. Blogs can go in different directions. You can either use your blog as a “personal private diary” or a Blog where you are sharing what you’ve learned about a topic. It will be interesting to see in which direction you choose to go. Happy Writing. http://www.brilliantviewpoint.com

  12. I posted resources for writers today and I was wondering if there are any other writers who have any more resources that they would like to recommend. Anything at all because I myself am still always trying to improve my writing so if start a discussion on it I would love it!

Other wise I would like to know if you want the links to the resources that I share in this post.

Extra question: If you look at my blog do you think I should start sharing my own fiction as an extra segment?
