First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hey, congratulations on your brand new blog and very nice first post…
You have chosen a vibrant theme and configured it well… However I have some observations for you to take care about…
Text widget which is on your menu needs an edit. Your social icons on the blog can be linked to you social channels or be deleted if you don’t want. Hope this helps…Good luck.

    1. Welcome to the blogging community! 😃 I read your “The Way to her Heart is a Maze” poem and I enjoyed it. I truly enjoyed your sense of imagery as well as your diction. I also like the layout of your blog: it’s very simple and easy on the eye. Thanks for sharing! Cheers. 💫

    2. Hey… nice work! Congratulations on your new blog too..
Since you are into poetry, I recommend you track the dailypost prompts and other weekly prompts on 5 or 3 line stories…. you will get better exposure and ideas..
      Good luck … !

    1. Good start Matthew! It would be good for you to explain exactly what emergency management is in one of your first posts. When you have time, you should also fill in the about section so we know more about you and what to expect in the blog.

    2. Hey Matthew nice begining of blog.. and posts.. liked it..
Please note your about page needs an edit. Also try to add “Read More” tags for your long posts so that on the home page more posts are shown with little info for each of your posts. It looks very tidy that way. Hope this helps…Good luck.

    1. Hey… nice new blog and posts… very attractive theme too..
Already started using the prompts… that the great way to go!
Just couple of notes… there is a text widget at your menu which needs an edit. Your social icons on the blog can be linked to you social channels or be deleted if you don’t want. Hope this helps…Good luck.

      1. Thank you, I’m not quite sure what I’m doing yet and mostly just sit down and start typing so at some point I will need to think about actually having some sort of plot but for now I’m just comfortable dashing away with the keyboard and seeing what’s inside and what comes out

    1. Hey… checked your blog, I must say it looks great and you already have lot of stuff… great going..
One suggestion, since you are already having so many menus and planning to write under them, why not create categories and link them to your posts. That’s the best way as you don’t have to manually arrange them at all.
Look at the this post I did some time ago, this might help you.

Hope this is helpful to you… Good luck..

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

(Also, a tip: include the http:// bit of your blog’s address, and you’ll get a clickable link when you publish your comment. Voila:

  1. I did not mean to originally post this as a reply to another individual … Hello! I come to this blog-sphere to continue where I left off in my book, where I share the hope of my life for anyone in search of hope. This post provides a glimpse of the uncommon experience from which I speak. May this be my first step to making a difference in someone’s life. Thank you for this opportunity … https://jeffulrichlegaciesblog.wordpress.com/2017/07/04/god-is-my-hope-in-personal-apocalypse/

      1. Thank you so much for stopping by and your feedback. Looks like you have a great blog as well, and I saw some great liners. “This is really a neat one … Basically all the life form around us are just an another passenger on our train… We board, find a place to relax, exchange a smile or two, and we leave… never to see each other again, finally alone till we vanish…Who lives forever? probably the train…the lifeless!!!” You gained me as a follower. 🙂

Haiku is a very orignal format in itself. I’m experimenting how much meaning can be packed in 17 syllables (5-7-5).
Your comment is fully appreciated! I’m flattered by it greatly 🙂 “Илья” touch is very nice.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my posts. I’m glad you liked them.
I shall take your advice and work on the issues you raised. I have been trying to work on the text widget to no avail but shall keep trying.

Hope that is of some help… good luck.. and keep posting more.

  4. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s footer, at the bottom of the blog — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

You should also feel free to give your site a more descriptive title. If you’d like to add one (we recommend it), you can do that by going to My Site > Customize > Site Identity.

    1. Hello and welcome!! From an iPhone you could do a couple of things: you could simply type out your link in the text or you could (if you’re in a web browser and not the WordPress app) copy and paste your link. I’m not sure if this is helpful or if there’s any other secret ways. Hope this helps! 🙂

    1. Great start! Look forward to hearing more about your adventures at university. One thing I would check is the resolution of your header image. It looks pixelated to me. It’s a small thing but can make a big difference.

    1. Hi, and welcome!

We’re glad you’re so excited about your new blog (yay!), and that you shared your link here. We’d appreciate it if you didn’t leave multiple, identical comments linking to your blog — it’s considered a little spammy and we’ll remove the duplicates. The best way to get people to visit you is to visit them and/or leave them some meaningful feedback!

“Do not judge my story by the chapter you walked in on.

This is my life…my story…my book. I will no longer let anyone else write it; nor will I apologize for the edits I make.”

I look forward to following your unfolding story. 🙂

    1. The pictures on your blog are very eye catching. Especially the old type writer. Your site looks very clean, great formatting. I loved your observation on the “Bless this Nest” picture. I see little signs like that everywhere and never thought of it as you did. Overall seems like a great start. Cant wait to read more of your work

Just a couple things to make note of, your blog link in the menu doesn’t pull up your blog posts. the default widget texts are still showing. But overall . . the blog is looking great 🙂
