First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Hi @emotionalgreek — First Friday is for bloggers sharing their very first post. As someone who made their first post several months back, you’re ready for the Community Pool. That’s a space for bloggers to share their posts and get feeback on them or aspects of their blog. Thanks for understanding!

    1. Hi! Thoroughly enjoyed reading your poems! Although I noticed that your ‘About’ page is not updated, and your widgets need to be customised to give your readers quick access to like and comment on your posts. I’m also new here, and was given the same advice by a fellow blogger. Keep writing, awaiting your next post 🙂

    2. I really like your poems. they are simple and elegant and have a raw essence unlike many I find gibberish written by prodigies(I’m one too). The theme and layout is pretty organised. Keep writing. And if you could, drop by my page, I have some poems and fiction works to offer, will really appreciate a feedback from a budding poet.
      Thank you. Cheers! 🙂

    3. So, I checked out your site, and you are very talented with words. I really enjoyed it. I only wrote one poem but it’s not even half of yours! Also, I like the design of your site. Keep up the great work!

    1. Oh My! the first thing that pops up on this page is an amazing picture that makes me want to forget that I have to work and just want to pack a bag and get out on the water. Its amazing!

Your whole layout looks clean, the pictures are great. I found it interesting how tags show up near the title. I look forward to reading more about your travels!

    2. Looking forward to more posts, Mark. Looks great! Must be nice in Michigan right about now. If you like to read and write, maybe you’d check out my blog–I plan to feature discussion on Rust Belt/Great Lakes writing–to include Michigan. I’m reading Bonnie Jo Campbell’s _American Salvage_right now–really great. Hope this spring finds you traveling and blogging more!

      1. Thank you very much for the feedback, Raj. I disabled this feature myself. I do not like Like and Reblog buttons because they give me feeling of facebook-ish.

      2. The problem with no LIKE button is that we live in a busy world and most readers won’t bother to leave a comment. So you’ll never know who, or how many, may have liked what you wrote.
I follow one blogger like this, I read his posts and like a lot of them, but he never knows it, because I’m not going to leave a “Like this” comment on every post. It’s his choice — and your choice — but you will LIKE-ly miss out on a lot of feedback, pardon the pun.

    1. Bloggers,

Million thanks for the valuable feedback. It will help me to grow definitely.

I’ll be writing a new post tonight. I invite everyone here to read and engage. I am also considering to enable Like Button but I am quite reluctant. Let’s see how everything goes on. In last, any header, typography, and/or theme suggestions?

      Thank you very much.

    3. Considering English is your second language, your prowess is well above par but a few grammatical errors which you can surely improve upon with time. I am from India and I really like someone blogging from the neighbor side, but its really disheartening to see the torrid time you all have to face for the daily power to your homes and the high temperatures, I hope things turn out to be well soon. Keep writing with the same passion and dedication. Cheers! 🙂

      1. W.Salam Areeba. Many thanks for the feedback. There is comment box and I have received few of them recently. It could be connectivity issue that it didn’t load properly. Could you please try to reload and confirm, if it works? Bugs, in addition to Internet load time, are inevitable. Thanks, again for taking the time.

    1. Sometimes I often think how People script their own thoughts, I was little nervous at the start but later discovered that once you start writing it goes on and on. Lovely Blog

    2. Looks like you have some placeholder texts on your sidebar which you need to remove/edit using the “Text Widget” section of your Theme Customizer. I really liked the post and I would really want to indulge myself in your experiences in Germany as I am aspiring to pursue my masters degree there. Keep going with the same passion and dedication. Cheers! 🙂

    1. Looks nice, however I could not locate your home page menu, that is required if someone wants to check all recent blogs. Also your social icons needs to be configured. .. Good luck!

      1. See you have some 4 social icons, they need to be be pointing at your facebook and other accounts.. check my profile you will be able to understand what i am trying to say..

      2. Another suggestion… since your blogs are long, you might want to add “Read More” tag in your blogs so that viewers don’t have to go through the whole post to navigate to next blog in the bottom.. That tag is very useful for long blogs.

    1. Hello @thenuttybookblogger — First Friday is really a space for brand new bloggers sharing their first post published in the last month. You’ve got lots of publishing experience and the best place to visit is the Community Pool to share a link to your site and get feedback. Thanks for understanding!

    1. Hi @technotpac — congrats! Your first post is more than a month old — that means that you’re ready to share your work and get feedback in the Community Pool — First Fridays is a space we moderate heavily to allow brand-new bloggers to share their first post published in the last month. All the best!

  1. What a lovely story–touching, but also well-constructed and even well-researched. Your degree in English Lit. shows! I love the line where you say you felt like a character playing a part you didn’t even audition for. Truly brave–and prescient–of your parents to leave for America when you did. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Checked you blog and will offer a few comments. Hope they help.

Your About page says so little about you, and readers hesitate to connect with someone they know zip about. Male or female? What general part of the world are you at? Twenties or fifties? (On your Home page you mention training for a doctor—which you should put on your About page—so I assume you’re closer to 20s than 50s.)

Your font is quite small, which may be fine for twenty-something readers. If you’d like to experiment with a bigger font, go to Themes (left hand pop-out side bar) and click on Customize. You’ll get another left-hand side bar with your Home page displayed on the right. Select Fonts and try out a few. There’s a choice of small, med, large for each one.

If you see something you like better than the one currently on your Home page display, then at the top left side is a button, Save & Publish. Hit that to save the changes you’ve made.

    2. “The Quiet in me” -this phrase really left me contemplating. I really liked your content but I feel you can work up on your theme, it’s your blog so making it visually more appealing will just help you in your cause. And as always keep writing. Cheers! 🙂

    1. Assalamualaikum from India. I really liked your blog. And I sincerely hope you achieve all your dreams and especially your ambition to go on and become an English Lecturer. One thing I noticed about your blog is that you have placeholder texts on your sidebars which you need to remove/edit using the “Text Widget” section of your theme customizer. One more advise will be to get your About page written up. And as always keep writing with the same passion and dedication and if you could would love some review on my blog.
      Thanks again. Cheers! 🙂
