First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

      1. Hi! Great post! Yes, you do but it’s easy to fix. Under my site scroll down to themes and click on customize, scroll to the widgets and choose which one you wan to change. You can edit out the text with something you want it to say, choose another type of widget or delete it if you don’t need it. Good luck! 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, to the right of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    3. Welcome, friend! It looks like you haven’t written anything for you ‘About’ page. Often times, readers will go to that page first to get a sense for your writing style and personality, so I would strongly post one soon. See you around. 🙂

      1. Totally. I wish there was a Wikipedia for dreams, so I didn’t have to wonder what they meant all the time. This new blog will help me vent – at least.

      2. Yeah, those are the dreams when I really feel like my psyche is trying to tell me something or warn me of an impending “event” in my life. Like, I keep having this recurring dream that people are coming over to my house in the middle of the night – strangers. They knock, but I’m too scared to let them in. Everytime I wake up, I’m like, “okay, what is my brain trying to warn me about? Is someone going to try to break into my house, or is someone could to try and have a Scentsy party at my house. LOL.

      3. Thanks. I must admit, though, it is kind of fun to make up our own interpretations. Like, anytime I have a dream about my celebrity crush, I always interpret that as being a sign I’m going to meet them in some weird twist of fate. See, I can be completely delusional. LoL.

    1. Look like you’ve posted a link to your preview, which only you can see — make sure you share the link to the public, published post!

(If you’re not sure how to get the correct link, just ask 🙂 )

      1. Thanks. I am returning the favor. It seems like you are really casting a light on some deeply complex social issues. I really like that. From the post I read on your page, you portray the issues as not being black and white (so to speak), and I think that is refreshing. Not to mention, a really important distinction. I look forward to following and reading your work.

    2. Wow! This is such a cool blog idea. A dream journal is something i wanted to do especially when i have somd wacky dreams. This is great! Welcome to the blogging world!

    3. When I first started my blog, I had a dream journal log as well, but my dreams are few and far between, so I removed it. I think its a great idea though. Kudos!

      1. I’m plagued by them. My compulsion, now, is to start blogging every dream I have – in real time. Which, counterintuitively means I might not get much sleep.

      2. You can try and keep a notebook close at hand and just jot down tidbits, then blog about them later… I used a note keeping app on my phone sometimes when I was woken up in the middle of the night by a dream.

      1. Thanks. I really appreciate it. I noticed in your intro that you’ve got some roots in AR. Me too actually, but I’m actually from VA Beach. That’s off topic though. Really enjoyed your posts. Very sincere it would seem.

      2. Thank you and yes, that is where I’m originally from! I’m definitely sincere in my posts. I very much want to help young women (and men) understand that there is hope in all situations.

      1. In what way? The dream itself, or just not knowing/understanding what it means? I certainly can see how it could make you anxious though. I typically find, with myself, that the dreams that make me most anxious are those I feel like I do understand. The dreams that are vibrant and blatant – like a slap in the face.

      2. That’s great! A little bit of positivity for our minds goes a long way. If you remember any of those dreams, as you have them, I’d love to hear them. Talking about your dreams is also a positive release that may help you to overcome them. I’m actually going to take your advice and try some positive reading before bed… maybe that will lightening up some of my dreams – since they are mostly dark.

      1. I have just started my hands on blogging and I know almost nothing but still want to try cause more failures are even better than just one win. Suggestions and improvement comments would be great ❤

      2. Actually I am new here as well, I read your recent article on sweet boys and girls, I loved the perspective of the whole article. Even though I am an amateur as well and no one to judge your work but since you asked for advice I would just suggest that try to be more

      3. Particular with your words and the way you want to present your article. If you work on it, I think you’d make a good writer.

My comment got sent before i could finish it. This is the finished part.
        Butterfingers me. 😂 Lol

  1. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

    1. Hi Chris! I read your first post- I think it’s awesome that you’re using this as a creative and emotional outlet! That’s why I first started a blog as well! Continue to write and continue to pour out onto the pages! Do this for you and for no one else. 🙂 One thing though- I wanted to “like” your post but I couldn’t find the like button! Maybe you have one and I just couldn’t find it- either way, you should have one and let it be easily found so we can show you that we enjoy your writings. 🙂

      1. Hmm, I will have to check into the Like button thing…I’m a newbie to WordPress so it’s probably just something I haven’t set up yet. Thanks! =)

      2. You’ve got the Like button; it’s on individual posts. If you want to show it on your homepage, go to My Site > Sharing, then the “Sharing Buttons” tab, check the box next to “Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results,” then click the “Save Changes” button.

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

    1. Thanks, everyone for the likes. Please pardon me for the typo error above in ” Hello everyone.”

It has just been brought to my attention that the link is different. The link is for the article about judging a house. I posted the correct link and from my end, that’s what I’m seeing. I hope that is what’s displayed at your end. Please, is it displaying a different article at your end? Kindly let me know. Thanks.

      1. Hi Michelle,

Thanks a million. I’m still so new to the WordPress blogging platform.

Here’s what I got from the browser address of my homepage for my first blog: https://wordpress.com/posts/myworldyourworldcom.wordpress.com

Did I get it right? Pardon me. Please tell me. I’m trying to get better on it quickly.

As for the text widget, I’ve been wondering for days what to do with it or how it works. I’ll remove it.
