First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Just a few thoughts for you on the blog. You have your social media icons viewable.. but when you click on twitter, for example, it just takes you to twitter, not to your account. I would suggest connecting or deleting the widget. You also have a placeholder text widget visible that has wordpress text on it that should be hidden or updated with your own text. Lastly on the advice, I don’t see a way for email followers to follow you? These are some of the most loyal followers (not that us wordpress junkies aren’t nice too”. Just some suggestions. I really enjoyed the athiesm article. I also like your blog name (if you see my “about the author” that might shed some light on why. Good luck and great writing so far! 🙂

      1. I just made a few changes to my site, specifically to the links to my social media accounts. I think I have them set right now. Would you mind terribly checking to see if I got them right? About the wordpress banner, I think that is there because I only have a free site for now, although it is my intention to upgrade when I am financially able. I don’t see a placeholder post on my side, just the banners for wordpress

      2. The social media links still take me to the general pages (at least twitter, which is the only one of them I use)

      3. Those social media links are in a menu called the Social Media Menu — to change them, go to My Site > Customize > Menus. Click on Social Media Menu, and it will open up the menus details. You’ll want to paste in the links to your specific profiles on that screen, then click the “Save & Publish” button.

      1. Yes! And people can only find you if you add tags. On your main page at the top click “Write” and a draft for a new blog will appear. On the sidebar you’ll see “Categories & Tags”. Open that up. You’ll see an empty box where you can type in tags. Just don’t put more than a few on each or wordpress will think you are a robot spamming. You can also edit your current posts to do the same thing.

    1. If you’re using your phone you click on the 3 dots on the top right hand side of the post, select options, the first thing should say categories, the 2nd says tags. You type them there with a comma between.

    1. Definitely. I’m not a newcomer, in fact, I’ve been blogging for quite some time. But First Friday is a great place here for new bloggers to make some internet friends and just interact with people, and sometimes to get some people over to their blog.

  2. Holy, Messy, Fierce Love
I learned that God stuff is messy stuff and that to love like God, you have to be willing to get messy and be fierce… While I was learning all of that, I got married and we had two daughters… and I don’t know if there’s anything more messy than marriage or parenting… and certainly nothing that requires a more Fierce Love than the mess that is being a Family. And so… we love with a Holy, Messy, Fierce LOVE… and it is MESSY and BEAUTIFUL!
