Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and conversations about blogging.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I love this idea! I agree with Jonny that some images might make the wall of text seem less overwhelming but overall this is really interesting. A history buff’s dream.

    2. The idea of a bilingual blog is so genius I can’t even express my appreciation properly! I’m bilingual myself, with a few other languages lingering on the edge of fluency, and it is no doubt that communication is a unique and cultural art form. That gives you edge for both your language and content. Looking forward to more interesting posts from you! Good luck!

      1. Ah! Just realized I replied to the wrong post. Sorry about that.

I really liked the poem. I thought the beginning was especially strong. It pulls you right in and makes you want to keep reading. The image also really helps to enhance the theme. Is it something you drew yourself?

  1. I have a blog all about writing and I posted about how to see inspiration in the world around you, which is something I believe can help writers as they go into this new year.
    https://enetteventer.com/2017/01/02/new-year-and-a-new-writing-lesson/

Then I also put up a new page that is dedicated to introducing my writing, especially my newest novel Pink and I would like to have some feedback on page. Is my writing style a bit harsh to read or am I just freaking myself out?

Lastly I was wondering if there are any writers who would like to be my blogging buddy – which is basically just an arrangement where we support each other in our work.
I know this is a long comment, but still please let me know what you think 🙂

      1. Thank you, I’m rather relieved. Normally I’m quite confident in my writing but I’ve been a bit spacey today and couldn’t seem to give it a proper read over before publishing it 🙂
I checked out your blog too, and I absolutely love it! You’ll see I followed you and I was wondering; how long have you been blogging?

    1. I really love the theme you picked for you blog and how the header changes for each page. It really suits your content well. I think overall it would be stronger if there was a clearer sense of theme for the blog, like what your blog’s specialty is. Of course, that’s something that will come as you begin to write more and more. 🙂

Would you mind also taking a look at my blog? It’s listed right above your post. Have a great new year!

      1. I really liked your recent post. I struggle with the same issue of having too many interests and trying to become better at everything.

Heres to hoping we can stay motivated and focused on our goals for the year!

    1. I didn’t think is was too simple. You made your point and gave us a relevant example. That works for me. I agree with you that we can show appreciation for what others do without pretending that we have the same interests. https://gracelead.co

    1. I like the overall look of your site. Your introductory post reads well. There’s still much place holder text (you probably know that). BTW, for some reason the link you gave us wasn’t hyperlinked. It may be because you have a dash in front of https. https://gracelead.co

    2. You have a great image to welcome readers. Don’t forget to edit or get rid of those placeholders. Play with the design and color scheme to make New York come alive!
      Good luck!

  5. Hii! So I just posted my first blog yesterday, it’s not something great, just some life lessons that we learn from little experiences each day, give it a read maybe? Also some wise words on how I can improve?

    1. I like the idea for blog site. One thing to consider is that you have some long, rambling sentences. It would be easier for your readers if you broke those apart. My favorite part of the post I read was, ‘ “not now brain, please” but well, when does it ever listen to us’ I can relate to that 🙂 https://gracelead.co

    2. I just read your second post, and it’s a wise lesson to teach and learn.
As for the blog, play around. It’s a lot of trial and error before you find what works for you and your readers. Images are lovely breaks from long pieces and a bit of color goes a long way. Other than that, I’d say work on keeping your blog and your writing organized and clear.
Good luck with your new blog!

    1. You have a good start to the list of activities, and you should keep trying new things to expand the post. I find it helpful to listen to music either for ideas or as I work, and I love saving prompts from Pinterest. I’ve got hundreds to generate ideas off of, but I do find myself getting lost in a rabbit hole more often than not haha.
Good luck with your blog, and feel free to stop by for ideas or a post to read!

First up is the final part of a 52 week project I did last year (this is actually a bonus 53rd entry)

Secondly is my Review of a year of my blog:

    1. I totally agree that the site could use some jazzing up. Your review post was really long and the paragraphs themselves too chunky. You repeated a bit – so be sure to read over and economize for ease of reading.
I admire how you post often. Keep it up!
