Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Just stopped by. Good content, nice image, good use of tags. My recommendation: right now, your image is smack dab in the middle of the paragraph, cutting a sentence in half. I recommend putting the image between paragraphs instead, or aligning the image right/left so that it doesn’t cut the words apart. It’s a great image, though, so don’t remove it!! 🙂

    2. Hello State of Mind,

Thank you for sharing your blog! I really enjoyed your perspective on the space that we create for ourselves. I totally agree – we can create a space that makes our inner being feel better. I love less clutter and more space….openness. The picture you included is perfect – it really takes the reader to the point.

I look forward to reading more of your posts, and love your theme of positivity!!!

      1. Thank you for taking out time and noticing the flaws. I am not justifying but I feel it happens when we translate from native language to English. Surely I will take care about this in future.

    2. Hello Karuna,

      Thank you for sharing!!!

I LOVE how connected you are to nature. I just got back from a trip to Seattle. It is such a beautiful city with so much green space. I love that you go out there and appreciate it all.

I really enjoyed your post about good morning and the trees. Your writing is so open, and positive.

I also really love your background and your header image. The colours contrast beautifully and really pull the reader in.

      🙂

    1. I agree that you do need a better theme…or at least one with a smaller header. Go to your settings and play around with the many free ones WordPress offers. It does help, though, if you kind of have an idea of what you want your layout to look like.
      Hope that helps!

    2. Hello Faraz,

I really think that your theme is fun, cool and unique! I do have a computer science background, and I was immediately drawn in.

I think the images are perfect – they really convey what you will be writing about. I also think the simple, clean layout is easy to navigate.

I think what you need to do is add more content. Write some posts 🙂

Also you may want to add some widgets to the side. You can do this in the theme customizer. I took a blogging university on branding through wordpress and learned a lot!!

Keep working on this – I look forward to seeing what you develop.

      🙂

    1. It was easy for me to relate to your post. I think the post would be stronger if you removed the first paragraph and jumped right in with the story. Yes, I agree with you that the shield of faith is for all believers. Thanks for the well-spoken reminder. https://gracelead.co

please feel free to check out my blog and give me a follow as I’m looking to connect with like minded people whether artists or writers just imaginative, creative individuals who like to tell a story.

  3. Hello All, another session of the community pool, I love getting to read people’s work, and it’s great to tap into the voices and opinions of the WordPress family.

I’ve been experimenting with embedded videos in my posts, I would appreciate some feedback on how the medium is presented and the content. I’m hoping to do more of this sort of thing.

    1. I like it! I think videos are great to mix in with the usual text posts, and I think it’d be cool if you continued using them in the future 🙂 I do have two suggestions: 1. Consider writing a paragraph (no more than three sentences or so) to introduce the video. Use it to draw the reader in. 2. Do you use tags and categories? I noticed this post was uncategorized. Categories organize posts within your blog, and tags help new readers find you. Consider using them to help new people find your work! You can use up to 15 total.

    1. Hello Nahdz Aventures!

I like what you have so far! I think the background and colours are really working. I like that you have pictures with each post, and how the post are laid out.

You may want to consider a larger heard image – maybe something that goes across the top – as you have a lot of unused space there.
Also – you may want to add widgets on the right hand side to fill out the space and help the reader access your previous posts, personal info, tag info, etc…

I look forward to seeing what you do with this!

    1. Right now, the best thing you can do is remove those text widgets, since you’re not using them. Once you get rid of those, you have a clean-looking blog with a good color scheme. 🙂 My other suggestion: consider changing the name of your blog. “Biz” is slang and very casual. If you want to look more professional, consider using “Business” instead.

      Best of luck!

    2. Hello Jolene!

Your pictures are fabulous, and it looks like you have written about many great adventures!!

I do like the layout, but I did find it a bit cluttered. You have a lot going on 🙂 Maybe a little less on the header, or the sides. I don’t think you should get rid of information, it all looks interesting. Maybe just a little more space between….

      Thanks for sharing!

    1. Awesome first post! Good content, good use of images, and good tagging. You’re off to an awesome start 🙂 My only suggestion is this: not sure what it is, but this sentence sounds funny to me: “or something very exciting is happening and the fabulous world of social media is needed to let everyone know about it”

I think it’s the passive voice. Consider revising it to something like “or something exciting is happening and I’m using the fabulous world of social media to let everyone know.” But seriously, I have no other tips for you, so that’s awesome! 🙂

      1. Thank you! I have used tags but I don’t think I use them enough. When I post photos, I usually just tag “photography” but it makes sense to be more specific. I appreciate the input!

    1. Hello Free 2 be me!

Thanks for sharing your site 🙂

I love the variety of quotes that you have shared, and the messages that they conveyed.

I would love to hear what you have to say about even one of them. It would be really awesome to be able to read your reflections on the quotes, or even a couple of them.

      🙂

      1. Thank you for reading and I’m happy to know you liked the quotes.

Each one is a representation of something I’ve written about in the past.

I believe you have a great idea! I’ll have to write about some of the quotes and give my thoughts on them over the next few weeks! Thank you and I’ll be sure and thank you for the idea when I post!

    1. Hello Brian,

Thank you very much for sharing your blog site and your poetry 🙂

I really love the use of colours on your site, including your header image. I think the white background with the bold coloured photos is a great contrast, and very aesthetically pleasing.

Your poetry is very interesting. I am not sure I totally understood it, but, I am guessing that it is like music…open to interpretation 🙂
