Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  2. Hi there! I have a pop culture website where I’ve recently been talking about my favorite movies. I’d appreciate some feedback on my post about Raiders of the Lost Ark; my worry is that I kind of glaze over the middle and don’t give it the amount of consideration that I should. Should I expand it, or is simply mentioning it after talking about the beginning and end sufficient? Thanks, let me know.

  3. Hello. I’ve recently changed the color of my blog from very feminine pink to black and white because I feel the new color scheme speaks stronger. Anyway, along with that, I kind of made my featured image titles consistent just to make it look good and I don’t know, looking a little professional I guess? Haha I’d be very happy to receive feedback. I left some posts without featured image blog titles to have a personal touch.

    1. Just commented. I really like the theme — I don’t know what it looked like before, but I think the black and white looks professional and clean. Nice! My suggestion for you: use fewer tags. When you use more than 15 tags and categories total, WordPress blocks your post from Reader and new readers will have trouble finding your blog 😦

    2. Love your colour scheme, it’s very clean looking and goes nicely with you content. Love your images as well, I think they help engage the reader nicely.

Would you mind checking out mine and choosing a post that suits your fancy? Thanks..

    1. Just stopped by. Nice content. My suggestion: consider adding a few more tags. You can use up to15 tags and categories total — maybe add “video games” to the Alien Isolation post, or “positivity” and “Paddy Slattery” and “motivational speaker” to the mental health post. More tags mean more readers! 🙂

    1. Just commented. I liked the last two lines! Your first line reminded me of a quote I recently posted on my blog by the band Alter Bridge (check it out here: https://natalieschriefer.wordpress.com/2016/09/13/quote-challenge-day-3/ I think you’ll like it 🙂 ) Good use of tags as well. My suggestion: maybe add an image to go along with your poem? It’ll add some color and draw the reader’s eye in.

    1. I think the post title accurately fits 🙂 I just commented. Nice content. I have two suggestions for you: one, why was all the text italicized? I don’t think you need to do that — it just left me wondering why it was formatted like that. Stick with regular text, except for emphasis. My other: consider adding images! 🙂 I’ve never heard of Speechless; your post is a great place to put a screenshot from the show. Blogging is a very visual medium, after all.

      1. Thank you for the feedback and I loved your post about comfort zones and fear. I was definitely fearful about starting my blog but I did it!

    2. Nice post, short but to the point. Great engagement in the subject and I don’t think you need to change the name of the post. After all you want the reader to know what your post is about and it does this nicely. Obscure it more and you may risk people not reading. Keep up the good work, could you check out my blog and pick a post? 🙂

  4. Hey all, not written anything new in a while as I’ve been busy with university. If you’re interested in knowing what my first couple of weeks were like however, that is my latest post 😉
If not, I’d love some feedback on my Flawd series which you’ll find in the menu of my homepage. Just let me know if you want any feedback on anything also, thnk you!

    1. Just commented. I liked the post! Nice use of images, good content. My suggestion: consider adding more tags. You can use up to 15 tags and categories total, and they help readers find your blog. Consider adding things like “Edinburgh” or “fabric” or “DIY”, perhaps 🙂

      1. Not a stupid question! When you create/edit a post, there’s a column on the lefthand side of your screen. In that column are a bunch of options: Publish/save, tags/categories, sharing, etc etc. Click on tags/categories. Categories organize posts within your blog; tags help readers outside your blog find your post. Add whichever ones you’d like! 🙂

    1. Just commented! Nice content, good use of images. Question: why is all of the text italicized? Normally that is used for emphasis only — consider switching back to regular text instead of italics 🙂

  5. Happy Monday lovely people,

I’ve just put up the second part of a fantasy fiction short story in me Dragon Stone series. A writing project I’m dabbling with to see how readers respond in order to see if it’s worth progressing. Any thoughts are welcome, but do keep in mind it’s not yet been afforded the generous edit my full manuscripts get.

    1. Just commented! Nice content, good use of tags, good use of images. My suggestion: careful with capitalization. Blogs are informal, but it still looks best if you capitalize words appropriately, like “I”. An easy fix! 🙂

    2. Hello Carmel Karma,

Wow – I really connected with your post ‘hypochondriac the early years’.

I love how open, honest and real your writing is. It isn’t always easy to write about how anxious we can be, and to really share openly with others. I felt that you really put yourself out there which is SO fantastic for others that can relate….they will feel less alone.

Therapy is a great tool 🙂 I think you are dedicated to yourself by going. I am reading ‘Spirit Junkie’ right now, and it is really helping me with my fear and anxiety that has stemmed since my childhood. I highly recommend it. Also, yoga and meditation really help open the mind.

I look forward to reading more of our posts. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  6. Hi would be great to get some practical feedback on my blog either about appearance or blog posts and what type of post you prefer – the more debate style or the more lifestyle blogger posts. I will happily comment on your blog too! Thank-you

    1. Just commented! Good use of tags, good content, good use of images. I love open letters like that 🙂 Appearance-wise, everything is great. I think both of those post types are nice — switching off between the two may prevent readers from getting too bored/used to one type of post or the other, so I’d say write both in the future!
