First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

    1. I really enjoyed your first post. I wrote a comment on the post but I thought I’d also give you a suggestion. I suggest you enlarge the photograph at the top of your post. It looks like it might be a thumbnail size. I suggest you set it to to at least the medium size.

    1. Read your blog. It’s nice to read something based on personal experiences. Also agree, religion does not make people noble or devil. I was trying to log a comment, but could not see the comment section. Perhaps you can add a widget there.

    2. I can see you have comments on your other posts but there is no way to comment on the Muslim one. There is now a new post called 161 but it doesn’t have content. It does have a comment section though! I can’t imagine what is causing those things.

What I wanted to say is that I’m so glad that you are writing on this topic. Our world would be so different if we concentrated on our commonalities instead of our fears and differences.

      1. Just looked again. There is an extra post that has the opportunity to reply but there is no post that goes along with it. I will comment on it so that you see it. There is still no comment on the Muslim post.

    3. I wanted to comment on this great post but it didn’t had any comment box. I read other comments in reply to this one and realised you don’t know how to enable or disable comment box and you disabled it by a mistake.

      Here’s the short guide:

      1. Log in to your WordPress account.
      2. Head to blogs under my site section from the extreme top left corner.
      3. Click on a particular post on which you want to enable or disable it.
      4. From actions (Left menu) from where you add categories and tags, you’ll find a discussion tab.
      5. Enable or Disable comment box from there

I hope it will help you.

  1. Hi everyone! I’m new to WordPress and blogging on the whole, so I would really love and appreciate some feedback. I love thinking of story ideas but am unsure of which direction to go.

This blog will be updated daily with ideas for stories, sometimes the stories will be written out …

My first post, if you have the time I’d really love for you to check it out or even my blog and leave some helpful feedback if you can! Thank you

  2. Hi everyone! Today marks my first week of blogging! I’m a Brit who has just moved over to the grand ole US of A, so jotting down some observations and trying to settle into my new American life. Any feedback is very much appreciated. My first post is a very honest account of ‘The Emigration Dream’ and if reality can ever live up to the fantasy you create in your head.

Looking forward to having a nosy peek into all of your blogs too!

    1. Hi, I noticed that you have the generic copy in your ‘Home’, ‘About’, and ‘Contact’ sections. You can change this in the customizer to make it more personal to your blog. It looks lovely though, great images and layout!

  4. Hey everyone! I started daily blogging almost a month ago to challenge my creativity. I write about beauty and positivity and I want my blog to remind all women out there that beauty does not have to be expensive nor vain.

I was also previously a designer so I put a lot of work in designing my blog to make sure that all of my new friends here will enjoy their time hanging around my pretty little corner at https://mercyish.com/

    1. One thing — I noticed you’re using a lot of tags on some of your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your posts, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers.

      1. I challenged myself to start daily blogging because I wanted to stretch my writing and creativity muscles. I mainly just think of all the things I love and break it down to topics that are easier to understand and relatable to others. I’m just a really chatty person too! Hahah

  5. Rusty writer who is just taking that first step and trying to build writing habits while chronicling my new journey I’ve set out on to find a happier me while dealing with obstacles brought on by my asexuality. It’s definitely not an ace world out there.

    1. Read your “let’s talk about sex” post and I think it’s brave of you to share your story! 🙂 I’m bi myself and can definitely relate to the confusion that was growing up while trying to figure it out. 😂

  6. Hello and welcome, new folks! We’re really excited to meet you.

As usual, I just want to remind everyone that we moderate the comments on First Friday pretty heavily — this is really a space for brand new people to introduce themselves and meet one another, and for others to welcome and support them.

If you’re not here to either share your (recent) first post or leave a supportive comment, please head to the Community Pool, which is where any blogger can seek feedback on any aspect of blogging. And if you’re not sure what the guidelines here are, please read the above post — or just ask!

    Happy blogging, y’all:)

  7. Hi,
This is such a great idea. I am starting a new photoblog as a class assignment but would like to see if I get it off the ground and it keeps moving forward. I have had a blogger blog for quite some time but it has been fading out and it would be great to start with a new community. I am still learning the works with WordPress and am worried about the storage limit. We shall see, My interests are photography, writing and travel. I will visit anyone who comments and will look up as many of you other newbies as I can find the time for. Here is my link. Have a great weekend.

  8. I recently created a blog about tourism and travel. My main goal is to show quality projects created by portuguese companies and give information about portuguese destinations that are not so known. I’d love to receive some feedback and tips. I’d also enjoy to help you with any additional information you’d like to know! Here’s the link to my first post, about Gerês, located in the North of Portugal:

    1. Love the pictures. Looking at the pictures, I feel I should plan a trip to Portugal. Just a feedback on your About page, suggest changing the colour of the font to white or a lighter colour for ease of reading.

      1. Thank you a lot for the reply! I recently changed my blog theme and I totally forgot to change the lettering colour on the About page. I’m glad that my posts are achieving the my goal, to instigate curiosity about Portugal 🙂
