      I also love poetry; I find it interesting to explore new perspectives and write poetry through different voices.
      Once again, congrats on starting your blog despite the challenges! I know how you felt.

    12. Nice work! My goodness, for a new blog you certainly do have a lot of traffic! I think I should be asking you for advice, not the other way around hahaha. Anyways, really nice poetry! Poetry is one type of writing I could never do, so I have mad respect for those who do! Kudos!

    1. You hope to meet more people soon? Posting in First Fridays and Community Pools are a very good start. I guess for now, you can dive into the Customizer just so that you can get to know your theme and how it works, even change (or get rid of, your call) the text Widgets that come with your theme. A quick suggestion, though: dark red font (esp. with small sizes/non-bold style) doesn’t show up well on a black background. Perhaps a brighter shade of red, if you can?

      Also, just a suggestion:
      Go to Settings>Sharing, and select the checkbox – Front Page, Archive Pages, and Search Results

      Now if someone visits your blog, he/she may like the post without opening the post separately. It will help you get more likes on the blog..

    2. Alyssa, great posts… The cake recipe ..I am going to try it out. Darker text on lighter background is easily readable.. consider flipping the colours… It should look and feel better for sure. Cheers 💟

      only thing I would suggest is enlarging your font just a bit, found it a bit hard to read, otherwise I love everything you’re offering 🙂

    1. Your idea of simplicity permeates throughout your entire blog, even in your blog’s design. It’s well put-together, must be said.

      Of course, now that you’ve been around for more than a month, you should know even though you probably can’t post here anymore, you can still reply to First Friday posts (I’ve also been around for not long). This also means that you’re probably going to be hanging out in the Community Pool more often, which is where most of the not-new members of the WP community happens to be.

      2. I think the moderators would prefer that if you’ve been here for more than a month, don’t start a post thread (so the newbies have room to start a thread). However, WP veterans (just like new bloggers) can still reply to post threads like what I’m doing right now.

    1. But isn’t that why most of us blog anyway, we really just need to get some self-expression off our chest? If you’re really ham-strung for ideas, there’s always the Daily Prompt. Even a scientist like myself can find a way to hang out with the poets and prose-writers – not sure how *well* I can hang with them, but can’t let a little thing like a non-liberal arts background stop me.

  27. Hi all,
    I’ve been selected to participate in a service corps opportunity through my company and will be traveling to Colombia tomorrow. As I will be there for 30 days, the company asked that I blog about my experience. While setting up the blog, I created a site title that will carry me on to other topics after the experience concludes. I’d really prefer to just blog about whatever interests me that day; although I realize that the more popular blogs are geared toward a niche. Any suggestions on what would make the site a little more unique would be appreciated. Thank you.

    1. If this blog is going to be for your company, then perhaps just focus on what they want – you can get a more personal blog going later. You don’t want it to seem like the experience is your “Friday the 13th” while the end of it is the liberation, the “Saturday the 14th.”
