Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Hi, I really liked your post and your blog in general. I feel it would be great if you update your about me page though. It is very abstract and doesn’t give any ideas about who you really are, which is the purpose of having about me page. Besides that, I liked your writing style and you’re doing a great job. Keep writing more ! have a nice day.

    1. Hi, your blog is cool. I liked the way you used widgets in your sidebar to add links to your 30 before 30 List page. the blog is visually pleasing.

    1. I like your theme, and your posts are interesting too. Just a few points that I noticed:
      1) Lack of about me page. It gives a perspective to the readers about you and what you write about, or why you write.
      2) Create categories. I observed that you have posts related to different subjects; list post like 5 waterfalls, facts and trivia’s. It would be easy for a reader if you make different categories. that way the navigation would be easy.
I really liked the brain teaser post you just published. Happy blogging to you!

    1. What a unique title for your blog. Your layout looks good, though perhaps you should consider adding more widgets on the side (archives, recent posts, etc.). I really liked your post about resilience; gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness are so important! 1. You write well enough, just from your writing and fashion posts I am assuming that you are either a high schooler or in college… like I said “assuming” because when I went onto your page for the first time I didn’t really get a sense of your identity. You are using a cut but basic theme from wordpress, and you can add more just by putting a header with your blog name/logo if you have one or want to make one. You can use canvas.com (free) to make one. I think that alone will add a lot of personality to your site. I noticed you have a lot of comments/ active followers so thats awesome! keep it up!

Also, I liked that you have your writing chapters in there. keep the dream alive!

I’ve been blogging for over 8 years now and although I want to turn it into “a serious thing” I don’t want to be a typical 24 year old blogger who does 100 reviews to earn free products and be the typical mom blog or beauty blog… I just want to be me but I want to narrow down what I write about.

Looking for advice/comments about my topics, layout and over scheme. Is it working? Does it appeal to you? Yes/No and an explanation please.

*If you leave comments on individual posts, I will reply and do the same on your blog. Also follow for follow if we have similar topics/interests…

  3. Hey! I’m a bit late in posting because apparently yesterday’s comment is still undergoing moderation, but my name is Gloria and I’m the author of “Sun Requiem”. Here is one of my favorite posts that I have written but has not been “discovered” on WordPress yet: https://sunrequiem.wordpress.com/2016/06/12/fangirl-apologetics-%E2%99%82%E2%99%80/ . I post several times a week, so if you like the things that you read here, I would love to connect!

    1. From one violinist Christian to another, your post was enlightening to me at least, who has never heard the term ‘fangirl’ or ‘fanboy.’ But it seems you are putting yourselves into these fantasy worlds to experience emotions and situations you otherwise wouldn’t experience in your everyday lives. Unless I misunderstood. Tolkien and the other Inklings at least, did not write these epic novels as forms of escapism, but to enhance the real life of the reader: to bring the kingdom of God and infuse it into earth. You are a good writer and I hope you continue to put your thoughts out there. By the way, what is your favorite quartet? (I like Schubert’s ‘Death and the Maiden.’ Also check out Mendelssohn’s ‘Octet’ if you haven’t heard it.)

      1. Hello, it’s a pleasure to meet you! You summarize it pretty well, I have read of subcreation as a way of glorifying the Creator. I really enjoy those quartets! I know many players who are far more experienced than I am, but I really like anything Beethoven, Dvorak, or Sibelius. Beethoven’s late quartets are GORGEOUS. I am really happy you enjoyed my post!

      2. Dvorak is one of my favorite composers as I can’t get enough of his later symphonies. And Sibelius’ violin concerto is haunting. I don’t think I have heard any of his quartets though. Doesn’t the second character of your name mean ‘poetry’?

      1. Thank you. Your post entitled Mourning about something you never had is good. It talks about how we tend to assume and expect and in the end nkt getting anything in return. Followed your blog 🙂

    1. I like the layout. I used to have that one actually. I’m kind of a newbie at blogs. I really like the poetry. It’s a start to something. Also I would play around with your theme a little bit because you have extra junk on there that you don’t need or it is the things your template came with. When you play with it more, you make it your own.

    1. Having no strict topic is totally fine!
Unless you enjoy the minimalist style, I’d suggest adding some colour, either with the background or with a header or featured images, if your theme allows.
Also, add an About page so new readers can et to know you and your blog!
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Just a quick but important tip: spaces after punctuation is very key to having readable content. So after using commas and stuff, double check you have spaces. Any word possessor will point this out too, so use one if you want!
