Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Anjali that is so brave and humble of you to write down all the improvements you were asked to make and the solutions you found for them. I loved the fact that you revamped your blog to give it a fresh look. All the best! 🙂

    1. I loved your post!! Your writing is honest, and very funny! I could totally relate to what you were going through.

If you want to attract more people to your site, perhaps add a header photo, or a an about me section, or an introduction. This might draw more people in.

      🙂

    1. My thought is that it’s helpful to decide the purpose of your site. What would success look like from your point of view? Then, decide how to move in that direction. If your site is an outlet for self-expression, it would seem restrictive to pick one theme since you have varied interests. Your site is organized with categories to help readers find their preferred area of interest. Perhaps you can have the best of both worlds. https://gracelead.co

    1. I like your idea and the way you ‘speak’ to the reader. You seem to repeat the word journal a lot and this hinders it reading more fluidly but other than that keep up the good work! As they say the only way to get better is to write more!

      1. No problem, I hope I helped. Your post idea was very thought provoking and I do agree with what you are saying, my blog is very much my own journal and if someone doesn’t like it then they may as well not read it.

  4. Hey bloggers!

Every other week I publish a new edition of Thankful For…, a series where I list things I have been thankful for recently in creative ways. In the past I’ve done word clouds, a word search, and colorful text. For this edition I used food-themed text generators. What are your thoughts on this post and the concept of the series? I would love to hear, and I will surely check out your blog too! Here it is: https://wondersinthewind.wordpress.com/2016/07/28/thankful-for-week-14/

    1. Nice post! I like the idea of gratitude posts — it’s nice to see such positivity! 🙂 I think it’s an awesome idea. The images add color and such that a regular list post wouldn’t have.

      1. Thank you! Yeah, I started out with basic lists but now make sure to add more color and/or images. Of course, on my way now!

    2. Creative way to make a list instead of just typing one out. Using images in the way you did also makes it more than just a list, a good thing to have itself, but also an artistic display. 🙂

    1. Nice post! Good length, good content, and nice writer poem 🙂 My suggestion: in a post that length, maybe add one more image — towards the end? — to break up the text a bit more and add some color.

      1. Thanks, Natalie! I’m not paying monthly for all the extra blog customization and such…I’m hoping my words decorate my blog better than any color would 🙂 And yes! With the paragraphs? Thank you for your feedback!

    1. Nice post. I had financial issues in college as well and had to take out loans of my own in order to afford it. UGH. Great content, good post length. Decent use of images, but maybe put the image into the text next time to break it up a little, or even add another one to add a bit more color to the post 🙂

      1. Thank-you very much! Your comments are greatly appreciated and I will definitely take on board the suggestion of images throughout. Your post on Orlando was lovely, I fully agree that kindness is part of the answer and that race, religion etc should not affected peoples opinion of you.

    2. Hello, I really like the title images you have for all of your posts, and that you put the title and your link on them. I liked your most recent post. I agree that it would be detrimental to society to make education more difficult to receive, as it would only separate people. Education should be available for all. I also enjoyed your post on feminism. Check out my blog about authentic living, thankfulness, and satire at: https://wondersinthewind.wordpress.com/

    1. Cute idea 🙂 For the Lauren page, consider not using the italics and keeping everything in 3rd person (Lauren will soon be 28, etc.) Since that’s the format of the Milly page, I think it’s more effective to keep them the same 🙂 But I like the info you’ve got on there!

  5. I’d like to invite everyone to read my weekly poem. It’s called “Vampires,” but has nothing to do with the supernatural. It’s a bit of a love story in a way. Please leave any likes/comments/feedback on the post page. Thanks in advance for reading.

    1. Just commented. 🙂 I enjoyed it, though I wanted to know more about the “chosen tomb” bit — are the lovers going to their jobs? Their spouses? School, parents, something else? It’s very open-ended, as is.

    1. Nice blog! Just commented 🙂 My recommendation — in posts without images, add some! They add color to a piece and also break up the text. Blogging is a very visual medium, after all!

    1. Nice use of images! 🙂 That’s such a hard skill to master. As for suggestions, I have a little trouble reading your name at the top of your page. The shade of green that “Syedah Maryam Iqbal” is written in blends in a little with the background. Consider changing the color a little to make it easier to read.

    1. Wow, what an ‘awfully’ interesting blog you have! First of all the design is simple, clear and organized. Second i’m really in need of learning how to take care of my plants, plus i want to start growing a couple of herbs in my balcony, so i hope to find some help on your blog (what about some tutorials for gardening dummies?). Finally, i also liked your style of writing, light and fluid, like you are conversing with the reader!

      1. I definitely want to do more how-tos. I think my canning post is one of the first ones, if not the first one, that I’ve done. I think it’s a matter of what I’m comfortable being an ‘expert’ on at this point, because I’m still learning and experimenting myself!

    2. Your blog is beautiful, and very easy to navigate, and the pages come up very quickly, which to me is always a big plus. I LOVE your flower pics!!
And I like how you share your sense of humor and the funny little things that are said in a day– like the “cann-a-ble– cannibal mix-up! very cute, and these things add a lot to the experience.

And that’s great that you’ve amassed so many followers already, how long have you been blogging?
I’m so impressed by the things you’re able to grow… I live in the wilderness and gardening is a huge challenge!

If you have time to check out my blog, please do! My request for feedback is posted below. Thanks Kimberly!

  7. Ladies and gentlemen, I have two new articles I would like to show you 😉

The first one, about my recent birdwatching days in Helsinki, features lots of pictures from my feathered friends, including some of the numerous chicks teeming around at the moment. Take a look: https://eiwawar.wordpress.com/2016/07/27/birding-mosquitoes/

The second one shows my last pictures from Copenhagen, where I lived last year. I plan to write a retrospective article about this period, but for now, you’ll have to do with that. Here it is: https://eiwawar.wordpress.com/2016/07/31/last-memories-from-denmark/

What do you think? Come and leave me a word, I promise I will reply =)
    Have a good day/evening/night!

    2. I read Birding and Mosquitoes. Overall, I enjoyed the post. Your hand drawing of the boat was fun. Since the post was somewhat lengthy, it might have been better to pick just one photo of each type of bird. The minks might have been in a separate post. https://gracelead.co

  8. First and foremost of all, the bad news-We are into the final lap of summer, which means that the kids will be back in school before they know it(BUMMER!); But the good news is that school cannot be all that bad; They need to know that it is the place of learning, and with school as being the place of learning, they’ll also learn some new and wonderfully exciting things, so that would definitely be something for them to look forward to. And now, on an unrelated note: I pretty much know that this is the next-to-last gasp of summer, but that does not necessarily mean that I just cannot stop bringing you all of the wonderfully fun things that Dream In Music brings, and I very much suggest that you need to stay tuned to my blog, because I have some extravagantly fun things that are just waiting to be shown to you, while yours truly is making plans to do a project that is very top secret, so keep an eye out for any further details! Meanwhile, get ready for some more fun reading, for the month of August and throughout the year and hopefully far beyond, all right here at Dream In Music-www.j2w7.WordPress.com! 😉 #PleaseReadMyBlog
