First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to some other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. “Unmotivated enthusiast.” Got to love the point-counterpoint there. Anyway, it’s got good material, motivating, but without the self-aggrandizement or false humility (two extremes in the Spectrum of Condescension).

    2. I have read and commented on it. You have written well. I am trying to think what is it that is holding you back from putting more work towards achieving your goals, as you do have ambition. From how I know, you have to think, “Exactly what you want to do in life. Your passion” You need to listen to your heart. Once you know that, nothing will stop you. Is what you have chosen to be a plastic surgeon your real passion ? Ask yourself. Or what do I really want to do. To Be ? In silence you find your answers from within. Best of Luck 🙂

    1. I like the way your blog flows! I love how you also included images, names etc. The only thing I would say is in your photo of you trying the shadow on your arm, I find it goes better if you switch the photo so your arm is horizontal instead of vertical. I really did like that post it is very useful. I am uploading a post tomorrow morning if you wanna do a follow for follow and you can check it out!!

    1. Welcome to the WordPress community. I’m Shadey, a common and one out of millions of bloggers.
And please can you explain what do you mean by “…get my SMART link to link directly to that section…”?

      1. Thanks Shadey! I have a link in my second post that links to my first post – defining a S-M-A-R-T goal. I’ve read through the help and it looks like I should be able to send the link directly to a section in my first post but the link takes the reader to the top of that first post. They would then have to read through the entire post to figure out what a S-M-A-R-T goal is – that could be frustrating.

      2. I’m sorry I could not help. You can discuss your problem either on the forums or you can use the support thingy to talk with a community member, if my assumption is correct that you’re having a problem.

  4. Let me try this again. I accidentally clicked, “Post,” before rereading what I had written. Told you I was a novice! I only have one post under my belt and I used some of the info in the About Page on my first post. So, no need to comment on that 🙂 Check me out and comments are welcome! I am at woundedjoy.com

  5. Hello, fellow first-timers.
Take a break. Make yourself a hot cup of green tea and check out my personal blog for storytelling. Here is a link to my first post, “To the Babysitters of My Childhood: I Apologize.” I also welcome you all to look around at the site, too, See my second post, “To Have a Home in a Memory,” which was praised by Dan Clark, the primary contributing author of the *New York Times* Best Seller, *Chicken Soup for the Soul.*

    1. I enjoy your blog. One tip would be to brighten up the background. You wouldn’t have to change your blog theme, just go in to customizer and change the background colors.

      1. Your blog is nice. Maybe change the background or theme because with that picture there its a little hard to read your posts. By the way, good luck with that app.

  6. Hi, I recently set up my blog (first post 6th July and have posted 4 in total). I would really appreciate feedback on layout/style and general content – whether in the comments or otherwise, as it’s the first time I’m writing anything for other people to read. The blog is on work and career with a bit of general ‘life’ mixed in. I posted today with the scheduler – so cool! https://thebiasedtelegram.wordpress.com/ Happy Friday to everyone here!

    1. Hi there! We’re glad you’re excited about your new blog, but please don’t leave repeated “check out my blog” comments across so many different posts here — it comes across as spammy, and the repetitive comments will be removed. You’re much better off leaving substantive comments for other people!
