Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. I think the theme you have currently looks fine! 🙂 What do you not like about it? Do you want one with more photos? Less? A different layout? You can preview the WP themes from the customization area, to see how different ones will look. You can also check out my blog – I use “Hemingway Rewritten.”

    2. I do like your current theme.

I know you asked for feedback about the layout/theme, but I noticed you haven’t written anything on your ‘about’ page. Readers will want to see something there.

    3. I don’t see any major problems with your theme, but if you’re not happy with it, then I guess you’ll have to keep trying things out. If you don’t have anything in mind then just go through all the themes until you find one you like. If you want to stick with the theme you currently have, I do suggest you perhaps make your Home image smaller and expand your About page.
      Happy Blogging!

    1. Hi Retrato,
I love your pictures. Absolutely gorgeous!
I noticed you mentioned the photographs are available for prints, but it was not clear how to order prints. If you are looking to sell prints, maybe have one page providing that information (price, etc.). Or link to another website where you sell prints.

My other suggestion you can take for what it’s worth, understanding that I love writing and I don’t know photography. So maybe my suggestion is worthless. But I like the page 35MM: India because you gave me some of your insight. There was added information and thoughts that I could think about while I looked at the photographs. Other pages, such as Aotearoa: Turakina lacked that extra writing, and I could not fully appreciate the photography.

Hope my suggestions help some. If you are willing, I’d love feedback on my blog. It’s new, and I’m still figuring it out, but my theme is about learning from travel. Thanks! https://confidentadventurer.wordpress.com/

      1. Hi, I find your articles pleasingly personal. I seriously like that style in a travel article–makes me want to experience it. It’s like reading a personal diary. I would love to see an image or two to go with it. Any photographer will love to have their images with your writing. You can also photograph them when you travel next time. You can play with other WordPress themes and choose the one that best suit your personality and style. I followed you and I hope we can learn from each other. Cheers!

    2. If desired, you could include some text with the images that you post — nothing crazy, maybe a sentence for every third image. If you want to focus on photography, you don’t want to overwhelm folks with words, but a bit of text could explain a shot, or the lens you used, or why you like it so much.

      1. Thank you! I appreciate your comment. I have put few text on other posts like The Doors and 35mm: India. I agree and will update the others with a short description or something to help readers feel the images more. Cheers!

I also like that you use pictures of things you’ve written for the titles of posts. Keep on writing! I looked through your blog — looks like you’ve got some grammatical/spelling issues (such as the spelling of sanctuary in the post title). Other than that, your posts are interesting and well-done! 🙂

  1. Looking for new, interesting things to post on my entertainment review/discussion blog. So far, I’ve reviewed movies, tv shows, books, music and I’ve even discussed a couple of interesting news topics. I’m looking to expand and add new dynamic to my blog, but I’m not sure how.

Can you guys visit my blog (www.RealTalk4Ublog.wordpress.com) and give me a few suggestions? I usually post whatever I feel like posting, but I would like to expand my blog, so I’m open to pretty much everything, as long as it involves entertainment in some form.

I’m working on a recipe post, but, since I don’t cook much, it’s taking a little more time than usual, but I’m willing to give it a go.

    Thanks so much, guys!

    2. Hi Jana,
I love your site. It is very well organized, I love your writing style, and I love the header pictures with words cutting off part of it. I agree with Natalie that perhaps breaking up the larger paragraphs will help make reading easier. My other suggestion is to use a bolder font. I found the light font one that made me have to lean closer to the computer to read.

I do like your theme and find it very similar to the theme on my new blog. I, too, write about travel and discovery. Here’s my page if your interested. And I’m also looking for feedback if you are willing.

I haven’t blogged in two weeks and I wanted to share a brief updates post. It’s about what I intend to blog about and the reasons why I haven’t been blogging as much.

I think this post would be a great one to hopefully get a glimpse of my easy to read, chatty writing style. Of course feedback on my writing style or my blog in general would be helpful.

Do you have a sidebar or way to easily navigate to different/past pages? Perhaps you did, and I didn’t see it because I’m on a tablet right now. But I think that would enhance your blog and make it easier for new readers to catch up.

    2. One thing I might suggest is a read more tag or a theme that only shows the first few sentences of a post. The more posts you have, the longer that homepage scroll gets if every post is on it in it’s entirety. It can be daunting to potential readers.

  8. My latest piece is a big break from my normal, which are typically long stories with a humorous streak. I tried to make it poetry but couldn’t get it to work as straight up verse. It ended up as more of a prose poem, a vignette. Curious if readers think it works in this form. It’s also adult themed as a warning.

However, I got to your blog by clicking on your name — I checked out a few posts, and I’m not totally sure what changed to cause the declining views. Your older posts are more technical and bipolar-centered. Your more recent ones are more about your personal life (like the oil change). Perhaps this contributes to it? Honestly, traffic varies a lot on my blog as well. Maybe readers are just weird 😉

I personally love when it get’s a bit personal, and I don’t agree that you write to much. Maybe dividing the text into more passages and thereby adding some air to it, it will make the post a bit easier to read.
I really like that you add pictures, it gives it a nice touch:)

Second, I don’t know if you want to get too page-happy. Categories, maybe, if you (or if you’re going to) find yourself writing about certain things more often than not (life in general? books? musings and thoughts?). If not and it’s really just that random, oh well. You do you.

    3. You’re right — there’s nothing like a bad sense of humor to draw people in! In terms of the look, have you thought of changing the plain white background to something else? You could consider a black and white theme, to match your cover picture.
I like categories if you want to post on a large variety of subjects — that way your readers can find what they are interested in. As for pages, think of them as static posts. They’ll always be on the front page of your blog. I would definitely add an “About” page, so that we can get to know you a little.
