Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello everyone! I’m Anjali. I introspect and pen down my thoughts. Sometimes, I tell a story, other times I sing verses. Also, I have started doodling. And when I don’t have any ideas, I randomly rant about anything and everything.
Here’s the link to my latest post- https://eloraquence.wordpress.com/2016/07/04/social-evil-the-four-people/
It is about those ‘four people’ who have been unknown to many of us.
My top post that has been liked by most of the bloggers is Types of Readers. The link is as follows – https://eloraquence.wordpress.com/2016/07/01/types-of-readers/
Feel free to give valuable and much appreciated suggestions and feedback.

      1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked my doodle!
Though I’ve just added it yesterday as a whole category dedicated to doodling. I hoping to grow in doodling, just they way I did in my writing skills.

Hope to see more of your work. People like you will change the society one day 😊

    1. Hi Kunal, it’s a very funny and light-hearted poem and little Stanley seems so sweet (not literally, haha;) To make the poem even better I would recommend working a tighter rhythm. Speaking it aloud will help you get a feel and reduce any redundancies. For instance, instead of, “His purpose from then was to play a part in the procreation of life” you might say, “His purpose from then was to procreate life.” It just flows better. Please have a look at my latest post which is also a poem with AABB rhyme scheme. (And I’ll admit, I could tighten its rhythm as well.) https://gospelisosceles.wordpress.com/2016/06/27/i-drew-a-rose/

Reverie = Daydream (Or something along this line)
        Reve = Dream

You didn’t know that? I was expecting you to be French or someone who studied the language hahaha XD

Pretty cool stuff you got on your blog. Especially that story on the duo hehe. Anyway I realized that you got not “Archive” section. I always tell bloggers to include that so that their readers can refer to their older posts.

Don’t let your readers miss out in case they want to check out your earlier content! Add the section via the widget now 😉

So I checked out your blog and I really like your spirit and energy but I encountered a few issues… I couldn’t find a “Blog” section for me to check out your blog posts and there’s no “Like” function for your pages. Is it just me or are they not present lol

I don’t have a like anymore. it was a widget that was sucking too many bit or bytes or something from the server…and the “blog” stuff are all found under the individual categories..yes, I AM a doofus. Someday I will fix it…as soon as I learn puter.

Btw, as your build up your blog, don’t forget to add archive section to allow readers to read your older content in future and “About me” page is crucial for new visitors!

They want to know who they are listening to talking to them 😉

Congrats btw, really nice first post!

      1. Haha thanks! Likewise, I’ve checked out your blog and I’m following as well. You’re a very interesting person 😉

Btw, I noticed that you got no Archive section and I highly recommend adding one via the widget in the theme customization settings.

Archives allow your readers to check out your older post so it’s good to have one unless you don’t wish to have your readers going through your older work.

Belief Boosters are awesome but should you ever feel the need to talk to anyone? Feel free to email me via doubleyourpresence@gmail.com

A listening ear is always better than a static page of a website 😉

You’re welcome and thank you for the “Pray for the world” image too!

Btw, I’d love to have you “like” and join our community page on FB as you can share any positive stuff that you come across or maybe even create as well.

Seriously, I’m still gathering people for it and you’re definitely one whom I believe can help make a lot of difference in it so let me know, yeah? 😉

      1. Hey Alex! Thanks for visiting 😉

Alright I’ll try my best to assist you but it is best that you contact WP’s assistance via their 24/7 chat assist. They’ve helped me resolve EVERY issues I’ve had since I started blogging so I’m sure they’d be able to do the same for you.

Alright, now, it’s hard to assist you because every theme has their own style/design. That means the way things are arranged will differ from theme to theme- Widgets availability, count and location (Side, top or bottom) will vary and differ because of this.

It’s gonna sound bad but I’d suggest that you try clearing EVERY single widget that you currently have, along with EVERY Menu. Then, build everything up from scratch again as how you’ve envisioned it.

For example, you want the “Recent Post” at the top? Use the widget that is placed at that location- Insert a “Recent Post” column there.

For “Previous Post” arrangement- I’m not too sure about it but I’m quite positive that this option is not adjustable manually unless you can do some coding etc in a self-hosted site dashboard/site builder.

In all honesty, my advise is to seek the help of WP’s FAQ or help chat. They know WP inside out and will be able to assist you the best.

And also, for your post here:
        https://yayockson.wordpress.com/who-am-i/

Use THIS as your “About Me” Page. Your readers will love you for it 😉
Don’t forget to ensure this post/page has a comment section so that visitors can interact with you!

If you got any other questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to assist!

    3. Hi Benjamin

What a great project you are leading, so lovely to come across something so positive. The world needs more projects like yours.

I really like the noticeboard look you have on your blog, and in particular the ‘howdy friend’ note about emails. Brilliant idea.

I am quite a visual person when it comes to finding posts to read and so I would have liked maybe one or two of your posts in the side bar or at the end of your welcoming letter. I also must admit hate to keep scrolling down so when I did get to all your great posts I would have liked a few more ‘ continue reading’ options rather than the full posts each time. A few thoughts anyway . . . . .

If you do have a moment I’d love your thoughts on my Portuguese blog – https://delightsofthealgarve.com/

I have had the same theme for a year now, and have the urge to change. However I’d really welcome feedback on what you like in photo/travel blogs if you ever look at them. No worries though if you are busy or if travel blogs are not your thing.

All the best with your project

    3. Hiya

I love the simplicity of your new theme, looks good.

Does it have the option of sidebar menus? If so you might want to try some of the widgets for ‘favourite posts’, ‘posts I follow’, ‘community’. I think it could add something – I’ve just done this to one of my blogs – https://beckybofwinchester.com/

However having said that I do like the simplicity of what you have done. So feel free to ignore me!!

If you have a moment though I’d like your thoughts on my second blog – https://delightsofthealgarve.com/ I’m getting bored with the theme, but am unsure if that is a good enough reason to change it! Welcome your critique

    3. Great post, love the raw honesty of your emotions through your writing. If you’re feeling that confident, don’t let it scare you, go with it! Chances are you’re confident because the thought of employment there is making you excited, maybe it’s the job you’re SUPPOSED to have. If it doesn’t work out, maybe you you should look into similar opportunities! Good luck! Keep writing on your days off! 😉

    2. So glad you’re enjoying the US, I DID enjoy my British travels but alas, it was just a vacation, nothing long term. Your wit is great throughout your entire piece. I’m a smidge concerned that you’re telling me through your pie graph that for the Americans you’ve met, their main thought when given the opportunity to conversate with a “fresh off the plane foreigner”, is food second to drink (yes I know, tea, Britain, but it’s still consumable). Sorry for THAT first impression lol, we have get our act together fellow Americans,we may be edging towards being lame… thanks for a good giggle. Following so I don’t miss any and don’t worry about the Americans you have to speak slow to. I’ve lived in this country my entire life and also still find myself having to speak more slowly for some than others. 😂 Feel free to check out my blog. 1. First off, I wish there as a love button instead of just like for your blog. I loved your shed the layers post, so emotional. In response to your question,I would rather take back anything I say than hear every conversation anyone ever had about me for two reasons. One, words hurt and people say things they dint mean when they’re angry. I don’t like the thought if someone hurting as a result of my words and wheb I ay skmething ring,it would be insanely wonderful to be able to take it back. Second, the phrase, “ignorance is bliss” has some value. I’d rather go about my business happy and unaware than be hurt by ignorant or misunderstood words that I try so hard not to hurt people with myself if that makes any sense.

    2. You’re doing it. The beauty of blogs is that there are no real rules, you just make them as you go, based on what works best for you. You’ve got a great start talking about what comes naturally I you and about what you’re familiar with. I read your mental health post and found it to be very honest and raw which makes for a great read. I would suggest posting intermittent posts about things that you enjoy, use your blog to create the world you want. Keep writing, I’m now following, can’t wait to read what else you have to say. However, if you’re starting to feel as though it’s too raw for YOUR own good, you can always try a more vague approach if it makes you more comfortable. Just remember, your blog, your rules, so it’s really first and foremost about what works for YOU. The right readers will find you and love you based on YOUR style!
