Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Did you just start blogging and you’re not sure how to get going? Has your blog been dormant for a while but you’d like to give it a jolt of life? Join our free Blogging 101 course (or any of our other offerings at Blogging U.).

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. I am certain this is an easy fix, but will someone tell me how to not have all my blog posts follow on the same page. Is there a way for it to display only the post recent post and arrow to the previous post or not?

    1. I am finding it difficult to understand when your blog address is not here? Different Themes do different things, in the way posts are displayed. I might suggest going to dashboard then to the Themes link. Your current theme will be highlighted and then you will also see the level of customization allowed by that Theme. Other Themes may be viewed through the use of the Demo link. You will see your blog as a sample. I am not an expert. Maybe you will receive a different answer from them?

  2. Hello, all! I am a free spirited lifestyle blogger trying to get on my feet. I’d love it if you could check out my blog, Old Wanderlust, here: http://oldwanderlust.wordpress.com. I also just made a post about my college sorority recruitment experience so if you’re interested in that I’d love to hear from you in the comments section of that post! If your blog style is similar to mine PLEASE contact me; I’m always looking to expand my network! Thanks 🙂

  3. I have noticed that some blogs have a little speech bubble to indicate comments. Is this based on the design template or can every blog have that? I would like to add that to my blog–hopefully to encourage more comments.

    1. I’m not entirely sure what you refer to here, so if you could drop a link to a site or post where you saw these speech bubbles, that would help me answer!

That said, the way comment boxes are displayed varies by theme, so it’s very likely what you saw was simply the way a different theme signaled the comment box.

  5. I have been “serious” blogging for almost a year now. Meaning I started my blog….didn’t do anything with it for months and then decided to turn it into my hobby. I have recently decided to become more acquainted with the wordpress community as my blog is through here and I have discovered some new and fantastic blogs. Would love for anyone to check mine out please!
