Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Gorgeous background. Good template choice. There are 2 columns of widgets at the bottom, being that they display the same info, I would remove one. Hope this helps!

      1. Thank you for your comment! I thought I did add one, I guess my readers are not able to see it though. Sorry, I’m fairly new at this but I promise I’ll get better! Stop by again 🙂

    1. Hi Mrs Davies, I read your post and thought it was very good. You describe what happened to you, and your search to understand it, and where you found help. It is a good warning to those of us who experience anxiety. There’s only one improvement I would suggest, and that is to add at least one small example (or better yet 2 or 3 examples) of something in the book by Paul David called ‘At Last A Life’ that you found valuable so that we can understand better why David’s book was helpful to you (and potentially to us).

  3. Well guys .. I have updated my blog with a new theme .. I find it very modern and appropriate for my blog .. like one can view the stories in one shot and then click on individual ones to learn the story words.. 🙂

Do check out and let me know what you think of it (I have already tried out regular themes which show a sidebar on the left or right and my post at the middle of the page..)

    Hello bloggers …

I have started my blog a few days back – I pick up 10 random words and write a small story – may be 10 -15 liner using the words – and explain the word meanings as well for those who want to learn the words. I believe context does help in order to learn the words.

Would love your comments on the story / words/ contextual thoughts / what happens next -> 😀 under comments..

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. Small suggestion – it may be helpful to your readers and potential followers of your recommendation to give more specific info re: things like ‘issues’and/or themes. You clearly don’t want to give away plot details, but your review reads a little vague to me. Book still sounds interesting though.

  4. Hello, everyone! I am completely new to the blogging world and just got my blog started. I feel like it’s probably terrible right now and not going to interest anyone. I have a plan to do a 30 Day Blog Challenge starting November 1st but until then (or if you think that wont help) can I get some advice on how to get my blog up and running and gain some followers? ANY constructive criticism is welcome!

    1. Hi,
As the other commenter said – nice visual! Constructive feedback, here goes: find a focus for your writing. NaBloPoMo may help with that. It seems to me that if you’re beginning a fitness journey, maybe you could channel your blog in that direction. 2 – avoid repetitive writing – how many times do you mention your schedule?! Lastly, fewer tags – be specific. Keep writing though, your voice has charisma.

      1. Thank you! I knew I needed a focus and was hoping NaBlPoMo would help. I also thought about the fitness idea but don’t know how much I’d have to write about it. I’ll probably do a monthly post with my progress but that’s all I could really think of. Thanks again! I’ll be focusing on making your suggested corrections with my future writing.

    1. Hi, I really like your picture selection. Your writing is informative but I prefer it when you write your more personal opinions and feelings (like the reason for buying the arty blocks). We really enjoyed Udaipur when we visited in January.

  6. hello guys!
I’m still on the stepping stones to being a good blogger , and have managed to express my thoughts ,experiences and views through my skill of writing in my posts and I would love for all of you to read them and give your feedbacks through comments so that I improvise.

    1. Hi – you are clearly writing from a passionate place. You need to take a little more time to make sure your posts are written as accurately as possible. Punctuation and grammatical errors distract readers from the ideas. The ‘I’m a girl’ poem is very strong.

    1. I like your post and can sympathise as my blog is about my own struggle with Anxiety. I really like your layout and theme. The only think I noticed was some spelling mistakes

      1. Wow! I wouldn’t of known, your English is really good. Yes sure. “He looked at her” instead of “he look her” and “This really bothered me” instead of “this really bother me” and “that way explain to you” instead of “that way explain you” and “why exactly it bothered me” instead of “why exactly did it bothered me” and “that I know is not my fault” instead of “that I know it’s not my fault”. Good luck with your blog!

  7. Hi I am new here!! I’m looking for constructive feedback on my service to help animals by spreading compassion via flyers. These flyers are like small posters and are intended to be left when shopping, eating, attending events, school or wherever life happens to take you.

This is a great idea for helping to put issues front and center in the public eye when people are not expecting it. I am proud to partner with two very well-known artists and a number of activists.

Would love some feedback and if I need to improve in any areas! Thank you!

  8. Hey everyone! I’ve been looking for avenues to share my writing and after growing more comfortable with blogging for the past year I thought I would try sharing my page with a more public crowd! If you could give it a look and provide me any feedback on the layout or the posts themselves that would be great. Currently, my top posts are #Talk, Lessons Learned, and Lessons Learned 2: College Edition. Any and all feedback is appreciated and if nothing else I hope you enjoy my writing! Feel free to comment on the posts themselves or on this thread and thank you in advance! My site is

    1. Interesting list style. Perhaps too many things on there for one post though? Could you be more selective and elaborate/ give examples? Or maybe they could be prompts for future posts.

  9. Hi everyone,
We just started blogging this week and we are delighted to join the community. We have two questions. The first is if you could go back and do something different in order to gain more readers when you first started what would it be? Our next question is does a blog with cross topics work? Can you take a look at our two posts and let us know if we are on the right path. Thanks!

    1. If you put the http:// before your site name then we can click right from here instead of typing it out. I added my face book friends by publicizing on WordPress that gave me a lot of new readers!

    2. My one tip for you, since you asked, is to network. As far as cross paths in one blog, I say no, you need a niche in order to attract a readership with like-minded bloggers.

    1. I enjoyed your blog – the layout is fine and easily readable, straight to the posts which I really like. It’s also nice to see a picture of yourself, the author. I really enjoyed your topics though, I don’t read many blogs and it’s nice to see one that has real thoughts and feelings behind it, funny references and genuine emotion. Keep it up.

  10. Any animal lovers here? vegetarians? vegans?

I’m an animal rights advocate and have created a small business to help change the way society looks at farm animals.

If you believe the farm animals are no different than a cat or dog, check out my site and let me know what you think.

Looking for constructive advice and feedback!

    Thanks 🙂

Some of my drawings are about my brain and all of its idiosyncrasies, and others are about my feelings towards college/life, and others are just totally random and weird–I would really appreciate any feedback or advice you’re willing to offer! Many, many thanks in advance!

    1. Okay, your content is great but I have noticed a few things that may be hindering you getting responses and followers. Firstly, your header image is blurry and because the writing is white you can’t see what the title says. I also noticed you don’t have anything underneath each post (no like button, no follow button and no social media buttons and no comment box). I think this is where your problem lies. I noticed a few typos to but nothing to substantial. Good luck with your blog!

      1. Pleasure! It looks fine to me now, the only thing I would change, if it were me, is add some social media buttons and a like button as that provides sharing facilities so more people could potentially see your blog.

    1. It can be very difficult to get people to read your blog without knowing you. There are as many people who write blogs as read them, perhaps even more writers, so if you are looking for more readers try other methods of sharing and promoting your blog.

    1. Really liked your blog. It felt ver upbeat and positive. Just a pretty nice place to be. I also gave you a follow I’d love to read your blogs as you update them. A positive outlook on life can go a long way. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the bright yellow under the sunflowers. The sunflowers are beautiful and give the blog a cheery feel. The yellow seems to take away from that slightly. Just a matter of opinion though! Keep up the great work.

  15. Hi! I write a blog with a friend about beer and pubs in the UK, particularly the south east. We aim to be informative firstly, but also humorous. This is our first real experience of blogging and would love some thoughts on how we’re doing. Thanks for reading and double thanks if you have the time to reply.

    1. Looks good, love the style of writing. But I’m an aussie, so really anything beer-centered is all right in my books!

The only suggestion I’d give is to maybe include a little map or perhaps more info about the location each time (yeah I’m a giant nerd too, I like data)… being a foreigner, I’d like to know if I could retrace some of your footsteps next time I’m round your way 🙂

      Totally craving a beer now…
