Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello everyone. It’s always great to find a new community of bloggers to read, follow and share this writing journey. My blog is, I suppose, about life. So far I find myself writing about solo travel, pet peeves — which I am calling petites choses, my cancer (successful) fight, and a recipe here and there.

I look forward to reading and conversing here :-).

    1. Hi,
I enjoyed reading through a few of your posts. I also agree that without passion, life is nothing. I can sense that your writing comes from a personal place. Which is always admirable 🙂 Keep up the great work!

  2. I found some good followers from last week so maybe worth trying again.

Hi all. I am looking for a couple of things. 1: some general feedback on my site, (https://habitatforheavyhearts.wordpress.com/). I am happy with the layout so I am thinking more in terms of content, Does it grab you? Are the posts too long, is it all a little too random? you know usual readability stuff.

2: I am also looking for more blogs to follow, and when I say more blogs to follow I mean genuine personal blogs, not selling me something, not entrepreneurs, not authors promoting their new book, not 100% poetry (sorry poets I find it difficult to get into), just genuine, personal blogs

Any feedback would be great, thanks.

      1. Hi Claudia, thank you, sadly no, very little of the photography is mine, there should be credit/or a link back to the original on each of my posts. Hopefully when I am confident enough I can do images like those.

The only images on the site that are currently mind are the instagram ones

      1. Hi, the layout of your blog is great, the writing easy to read etc and there is the all important about page.

I am not religious so cannot put an opinion on the content. But may be some more images in your posts to make them stand out.

  3. Hi everyone!

I am a designer hoping to become an illustrator. I share my illustrations and I blog about the process.

What aspects of my work would you like to learn more about in my blog posts? I haven’t followed the same format for all posts so would be interested to learn what you’d like to know so I can write more about it.

    Please leave your comments here.

    Thanks everyone!!

  4. Calling book bloggers, would you like to guest post, making a review of a book in list format and with a focus on a character, thus the title “How to be …”. Please let me know what you think of my example: https://nadya.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/how-to-be-a-french-mom/
If you’re interested, you can pick an interesting character from a book you’ve read and make a list of how to be that character. Another example, I just read a book, “Siddharta” by Herman Hesse, and it could be a “How to be Siddharta” post. Looking forward to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

  9. Hello all!

I have been blogging about life lessons and memories from my father, who passed away last month. It is a devastating loss of the man who shaped me. I hope I’m not being too maudlin in my writing; I just want others to know how much I learned from him. If you could give me some feedback, I’d appreciate it so much. The first post is the featured intro, scroll down for the most recent. Thanks! http://www.ourgussie.com

    1. The featured article looks good, but might be better if you reduced the photo size… it overwhelms your text. Also, try breaking up your long paragraphs into shorter ones.

  10. Hey Everyone, I just posted a new interview and would really love to get a comment discussion going on over on the post itself and build up support for this project. This is a story of a woman who is truly inspiring through her art and has inspired me greatly these past few weeks in talking with her. I think that everyone should know about the work she is doing.

The theme of her work is “inspired freedom” and she designs jewelry using original fencing from Robben Island Prison in South Africa (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned)

    1. I like your layout. You should try to break the text up a bit with an image or the quote feature and should also consider writing the ‘about’ page and letting us know what you aim to do with your blog and what kind of content you will be posting 🙂 good luck!

    1. Hi angela I am new to this too. your blog looks off to a good start and the end of your about page about the sound of your voice is great. Make sure you run a spellchecker through your blog and post some images to link to your posts 🙂 if you won’t be posting an image for each post maybe consider another layout. Good luck!

  13. I am brand new to blogging! My blog is going to talk about politics and other touchy subjects. I have liberal views while living in a very right-winged Kansas.
Here is my first post (very general, upcoming ones will be focused more on one issue). I would love any and all feedback!!

      1. Hi Shane using a ‘Native American’ may be offensive to many and seems to perpetuate the us vs. them stereotype. You write well and and I like how your blog is set up, but be careful with generalizing and writing on touchy subjects.

    1. Maybe blog about animal rights? Are you vegetarian or vegan or a health nut? You can never have too many of these. We need more compassionate people in the world, so yeah if you can relate I would say go for it! Check out Google for researching info.

    2. First, read the article about blogging at https://learn.wordpress.com. It really helped me.

Second, you need an ABOUT page so we know something about you. I always read that page when I visit a new blog.

Third, consider being more positive. So much of your first post is needlessly critical of yourself; even your blog title is self-critical. Write about something that excites you, and you will draw in like-minded readers. Promise.

      1. Will do so, thanks. I’m still quite unsure on whether i should give out a little about myself, no one will bother reading anyway, i think. Oh, that sounds better. Thank you, will try to do so.
