Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I suggest you use a larger font for easier reading, and reduce the size of your photos so they don’t overwhelm your text.

  1. Hello all! I just put up a new post tonight of poetry, which is tangentially related to the general theme of my blog but not the same in content of other posts. I’m trying to branch out all my loves under one umbrella. Please let me know what you think of this one either here or directly on the post: http://sleepingonthediagonal.com/2015/10/27/burnt-merlot/
And if you have a moment check out some other posts; most are humorous in tone like http://sleepingonthediagonal.com/2015/10/14/ants-in-the-dishwasher/ Thanks!

    1. Loved it. Your header title and subtitle is just the best! I totally agree with your principle. I also enjoyed your poems as well. As a fellow writer, I’m going to give you a follow 🙂 I always love reading thought provoking–heart warming things. Keep up the great work!

  2. Hi everyone! I’m finally jumping into the world of writing after years of contemplation and procrastination. I’ve just started a new blog for competitive sports moms and would love to get some feedback as to the content, writing skill, etc. There are only 8 posts so far, so no real need to cite just one for review. Thanks in advance for the help and encouragement!

  3. Hello my extended family! I would introduce myself as R’I’P; author of a blog titled as Straight From Heart. It carries soulful poetry, Random thoughts from a corner of my mind and few write ups too. Here’s the URL of my blog:

I shall be completing 2 months on November 2. So far, I’ve received overwhelming response from the community in such a short spam of time. Do check out my blog and let me know how you felt about it! God Bless

  4. Hey everyone so ive always heard about blogging and thought I would want to do it! I never got around to it till I started Spread Art Project a few months ago and now a blog is kinda needed. The thing is I have no clue what I am doing like how to get likes how the blog gets views and lots of other things. So far I only have 2 blogs but like I said I’m new at this. My blog is about painted rocks. My family and I paint rocks and lacquer them and leave them in random places for some one to find!

    1. First off, great job making a blog 🙂 I found your blog concept and theme to be so cute! I love the idea of painting rocks and it’s awesome you and your family do it together. I also enjoyed reading your About page. I would just encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing and don’t ever stop!

  5. Hi All! I have finally published two out of five blog posts I have been working on. I’ve been so hesitant to publish them, and I would greatly appreciate any feedback good or bad. https://candicedarryl.wordpress.com/ Would love to hear what you think, and am happy to check your blogs also. I hope you enjoy my writing! Think modern day SATC/Bridget Jones Diary – this is my eventful and humourous blog as an Australia girl creating her extraordinary world. Thanks 🙂

  6. Just started up a new blog. I’ve tried a couple of times to start up a writing blog and actually maintain it, but I often just lost confidence in my skills. So I’m starting up again and focusing on honing my writing and actually becoming a good writer. I dabble in poetry but my true love is historical fiction and war fiction. I’d really love to get some feedback and criticism. https://saclerihue.wordpress.com

    2. I’m glad to hear you’re back and trying again. It is hard, I agree. As a fellow writer, I’ve wanted to give up many times as well. But honestly, you’re great! I read a few of your posts and some poems and I think they’re marvelous. Please keep doing what you’re doing and this time, don’t give up 🙂 I wish you the best of luck!

    1. Here’s a thought: Try adding your subscribe/follow widgets on the side rather than at the bottom. Consider creating social media accounts for the blog and plunk them in the same place. People are lazy; they’re not going to go out of their way to scroll to find where to subscribe.

Side note, I adore your About page.

    2. I think it looks great! The layout, the visuals, etc are all eye catching. The only thing I’d suggest is if you made some categories so that viewers can find your work easier and it also helps organize the clutter. Other than that, you’re doing great! Cheers!

    1. Congrats on your first post! Definitely enjoyed reading. I’d suggest one thing though: Updating the About page. That way viewers can understand what your blog is about and connect with you more personally. I wish you the best of luck!

  7. Hello bloggers …

I have started my blog 5 days back – I pick up 10 random words and write a smapp story – may be 10 -15 liner using the words – and explain the word meanings as well for those who want to learn the words. I believe context does help in order to learn the words.

    Here is my blog link.
    https://wordstoryaday.wordpress.com/

I would love to read your story using the 10 words of the day as a comment or discussions on my story.

  8. Hi everyone! I had this trouble and know many others did too but didn’t know what the issue was. For those of you who have a public blog but your posts didn’t get any traffic even with tags or don’t show in the tag categories, it is because of a setting.
Make sure your setting is completely public. Do not mark the option saying “discourage search engines from finding my blog.” That includes WordPress’s search engine! Happy posting everyone 🙂

  9. Good morning Bloggers! (or maybe afternoon/night… I don’t know where you live 😉 )

I can really use your help! Normally I write my blog in Dutch but now I’ve written one in English. This sunday I will run the NYC Marathon in the VS and I will be wearing a shirt that displays my website. I thought it would be nice to write something for the kind people who take the effort to visit my site. please give me feedback, many many thanks!!!

    1. Hi Seb Dani, I read both of your posts, and I liked your tips. My one suggestion would be to left-justify your tip headings, instead of centering them. I think the content is great!
