Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once! We tend to delete duplicate comments asking for feedback on the same post.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • When leaving comments, please remember not to add your blog’s url as your signature. It’s kinda spammy: after all, your handle links directly to your blog.

      1. thanks for the bit about the first line. I know that it’s what shows up on the preview and thus it needs to sell the story, but I also don’t want to create a clickbait title (“You won’t believe what happened to me in Brasil!” or “You’ve never thought this way about travelling!”, or something similar), so I’m happy that I have attention catchers without being spammy.

    1. Hi, I love your blog. I don’t know how similar I’d say we are, but my household includes my boyfriend (whose mother is an abusive druggie), our roommate (severe depression, among other things, and myself (abusive mother). I think your blog does well to connect with those who need to see it. I’ll show it to our roommate later.

    7. I perused yesterday, but didn’t have time to respond until today. The site title has all by itself has a dark humor to it and while you talk plainly and genuinely about the strugles of life, there is a delightfully edgy tone to everything. It is the second time, I think I have visited your site and while it is a punch in the gut for me to read every time, I think you have an ability to be literary-honest, which is not something everybody can be (myself included). I decided to follow. Go easy on me. 🙂

    2. Such a good idea! I currently have a jar on my desk for my ‘2015 Achievements’, and a jar for photography ideas, so I suppose a third jar on there wont hurt! 😀

      1. That’s a good idea. I tend to collect interesting jars, most of them are used to house different types of tea in my kitchen but perhaps a few more can migrate towards my desk. I love the idea of an achievements jar, similar to a diary but far more interesting and easier to keep I bet!

      2. It’s been really fun to keep the achievements jar, it’s my first year of doing so and I’ve found it really helpful to record big and small things in my life. When it gets to the end of the year, I’ll open it up and read them all back 🙂

      3. That’s a lovely idea. I bet it’ll be a helpful place to delve into if ever you’re feeling like you’ve not achieved much too (I get those days a lot)! I read a lovely short story once about a couple that kept their year’s memories in a jar, and at the end of every year they would sit down together and relive their best moments. I might have to steal that idea too, if my boyfriend will oblige…

      Your post stood out to me because I’m a writer at heart. I just joined a writer’s group to get refocused (career, kids, etc. take a lot of time and energy). I have some fiction projects and currently write a kind of honest-mommy blog.

      I was intrigued by the closing paragraph in your chapter 1 (“it’s you…”). I’m wondering how two people who should be strangers know each other or if only he recognizes her.

      There are a lot of great books out there designed to help you develop the world of your story.
      – I highly recommend Nancy Kress’s book on character development (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/write-great-fiction-characters-emotion-viewpoint-nancy-kress/1017891950?ean=9781582973166). The character bio and emotional bio forms are great. She has a whole series on writing but the character one is the only one I’ve checked out so far.
      – Oron Scott Card has a sci-fi one (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/how-to-write-science-fiction-and-fantasy-orson-scott-card/1004687830?ean=9781582971032) that has some helpful general tips, too (every scene should have a purpose and move the plot forward.

    2. Hello there,
      I just read Reunited-Chapter One, and I the ending really intrigued me. It left me wondering who this man is, if he merely resembles someone familiar/important or if he IS an important person, and what role he will play–it made me want to read more.

      I would go back and edit the chapter, though. Overall, it could be tightened up by removing unnecessary/redundant words and changing the voice from passive to active (note: only one or two sentences were passive and could benefit from a change). Finally, some parts were a bit confusing and disrupted the flow of reading (like when Chloe said “Hey Trouble,” I had to stop and think about what the meant. Was there trouble? Was that supposed to be someone’s name?).

        I currently have my blog associated with both my Facebook and Twitter account. Every time I post, a post is generated on both of these accounts. I have been told that some people don’t see my Facebook updates so I have to send out a post via my personal account and through my blog page. That seems to help a little, but I’m afraid the only way to increase my FB presence is to boost posts and create ads, but I simply don’t have the funds to do so. So frustrating!
        Not sure if there’s more I can do to link Pinterest and Instagram? Thanks!

      2. Beside running my personal blog, I created a new one yesterday (http://10gadgetlane.wordpress.com). What I did differently on this one was the heavy usage of hashtag in every posts I made. I published about 7 posts yesterday & received 23 hits in total.
        Try it out, it might help. Also, use proper tags and keywords with your posts. Not only it helps out bringing traffic from blogging community but also from the internet

      Since you’re new, you should consider signing up to the next Blogging101 course. There’s lots of hints, tips and tricks and you’ll soon start to grow your network and makes lots of new friends.

      I think there are two things that will help you to get more feedback. The first is learning a bit more about blogging and tagging your posts. The second is, ‘the more you give the more you get.’ If you take the time to read people’s posts, they might do the same for you. 🙂

    3. The easiest way to do that is to interact with other bloggers by looking on blogs that interest you or connecting your blog to social media and sharing it with your social network. Stay active with your blog and constantly seek out other bloggers to network with.

    4. Take a WordPress free course, one is starting next Monday called Blogging 101 and it’s so helpful and it gets you in contact with other new bloggers. You should register before it fills up! If it is closed the classes are given year round and it’s like the community pool but with assignments to make your blog better. They have photography, writing and blogging courses.

    5. I’ve noticed three things change my traffic drastically-

      1) What tags and categories am I using? If you use one that is too general (IE travel), there will be 100 others that load with it and it will disappear within an hour due to other volume. If you choose something too specific (IE Sucre, Bolivia), odds are that no one will see it. Study tags and categories to see which fit your stories best. I wish I had done this from the start as I had amazing stories that nearly nobody read because I did tags like #GeorgeBushHatesChileans without realizing what it meant. Tags and categories are the only way that strangers will find your blog.

      2) When are you posting? The same principle applies as does in tags and categories. Post in the busiest time and there will be tons of other posts that make yours easy to miss, but if you post at 3:00 AM it’s possible that nobody sees it.

      3) What is your synopsis? Without being clickbaity and incurring my wrath, have a summary and catchy picture. You’re fighting for the reader’s attention with everyone else in the same category, so make sure your cover photo catches the eye and your summary makes the reader either curious or wanting more.

    2. Looking through your content now. Perhaps include a first paragraph or two of each post before placing the Read More tag? Give your readers a bit of bait to draw them in. That said, I clicked Coffee-Counter Culture because I’m a coffee addict. It was a good read, nevertheless.

      It’s also a little odd in the tag cloud to see ‘humor’ and ‘humour’.

        To be honest my choice of theme seems to have removed the paragraphs – but I might have a play around with it and see if I can get them back. The humor, humour thing is me being British and insisting on British spelling s but also quite wanting Americans to read my stuff as well.     4. Hi James, Nice blogs. I would like to see few colors on the site. Currently it’s too monochromatic with white in the abundance. Also nice start up photo but as per research user will lose interest if contents followed after scroll. so advice you to have small images for blogs. Still good writing. Keep blogging.

      Thanks for the invitation – my initial thoughts after a quick look are this:

      # Your title page and picture seem to be quite big – have to scroll down past the picture to find your blog name whereas for me the blog name should be the first thing i see or at least on the first screen i look at – so maybe making the picture smaller so the title fits on as well?

      # i love it when a blog post heading gives a few lines of dialogue so i can get an idea of what your blog is about – at the moment i just see the titles of each post and that puts so much pressure on the title to lure people in – there are settings where you have the title and a few lines or a paragraph and then a ‘Read More’ tab which links to the rest of the piece – i would highly recommend that

      # i do like what you’ve got going down the right hand side of your blog – Recent Posts, Blogroll etc – i would move Blogroll up to just below Recent Posts as those seem to be the two most interesting things on the side and their setup looks great

      # Also i would try make your tagline shorter and more positive – doesn’t have anything to say but is going to say it anyway might be the truth [and if so, put it in you about me page] but you want your tagline to be another invitation for me to want to read your blog – something funny or enticing or intriguing – maybe just leave it at ‘The irreverent and irrelevant ramblings of a man.’ That’s interesting.

    1. I liked the fact the post ended with your philosophy about making the most of your new home town.You could try ending with a question if you want more comments. But you’ve got quite a few and 31 likes – that’s far from bad! If you enjoy that kind of post, keep doing it.

    3. Amber. Very professional site, very light and colorful (not gaudy) and I would think for others who share your maladies, a light and airy site is a great choice. You obviously need little advice from a neophyte like myself. Just keep doing what you are doing, which is providing helpful content. It might be years before many people see posts you make today. That will be a true blessing for them.

    1. I really like the layout of your blog and the thoughts you share are interesting to read. Might I suggest adding images to all of your posts? The ones that have an image definitely catch my attention more effectively, and I think your choice of image helps give the reader a quick glimpse of what they are about to read.     I recently posted on here and I got such great advice from fellow bloggers, and found some amazing blogs to follow, that I couldn’t help but post on here again!

    I’m new to blogging so I’m still finding my feet at the moment, but my blog is more of a ‘lifestyle blog’, exploring topics such as food/health/fitness, clothes/beauty etc! I also love drawing and photography so want to incorporate that too.

    3. Let’s see…clean lines, light and bright, sharp, attractive photography. While I am hardly a health nut, the segments about healthy eating were appealing. I think there’s something attractive about taking fresh ingredients and making a concoction out of it. Anyway, you seem to have it down, m’lady. Just keep posting regularly is what I’m told. 🙂

    1. Hey! I think your tags are pretty good – you could add a couple more of the most popular tags, which will be the ones that most people see. If you go to wordpress.com/tags you can see the most popular tags. The only problem, of course is that there will be lots of posts with these tags but a mix of popular and more specific tags could get your posts seen by more people! I’m still new to wordpress and blogging so you probably knew all of that anyway, but I hope I helped! 🙂

    1. The theme you picked looks really nice, and your first post definitely shows a little bit about who you are. I would suggest adding an about page with a little blip about who you are, and what content you may post in the future to help give readers an idea of what to expect.     1. I loved your post! i agree with everything you say, and i wish i had been taught to cope with failure. I think a lot of people have a failure to cope with failure, if you will, haha. Can’t think of any improvements and will be following your blog from now on, it was really interesting!

    1. 1. Run back in the house for whatever I forgot. Usually my wallet or a sample of my cooking for work.
      2. Seatbelt and check tank for gas. Y’know, basics, and occasionally I’ll forget to get gas the night before.
      3. Quadruple check for traffic before pulling out because my neighborhood is full of thoughtless blighters. Despite this, I almost got sideswiped by someone running a stop sign last week.

    1. I like the way you use your posts to show the character of your company and show that you are not just a business trying to make profit, but that you want genuine business. I also think the ask us anything page will be helpful in allowing customers to contact you easily. Great job!
