June in Blogging U.: Blogging 101 and Photo 101

New blogger looking for guidance? Budding photographer wanting to learn more? Welcome to Blogging U.

Blogging 101 and Photography 101 both return in June! We’re looking forward to working with a new group of bloggers and shutterbugs.

And you'll get a badge! Who doesn't love a badge?

Blogging 101: Zero to Hero — June 8 – 26

Blogging 101 is three weeks of bite-size blogging assignments that take you from “Blog?” to “Blog!” Every weekday, you’ll get a new assignment to help you publish a post, customize your blog, or engage with the community. Whether you’re just getting started or want to revive a dormant blog, we’ll help you build the blogging habits and connections that will keep you going over the long haul.

You’ll walk away with a stronger focus for your blog, several published posts and a handful of drafts, a theme that reflects your personality, a small (but growing!) audience, a grasp of blogging etiquette — and a bunch of new friends.

Photography 101: A Photo a Day — June 8 – July 3

Photography 101 is a photo-a-day challenge. You’ll publish new posts, make new friends, and hone your photographer’s eye. Each weekday, we’ll give you a new photography theme and tip — we might share advice on composition, tips on working with different light sources, or image editing ideas — and the community critique will inspire you and motivate you.

This four-week, intro-level course open to all, from new bloggers to hobbyist photographers to pro shooters. Use any camera: phone, point-and-shoot, dSLR.

How do Blogging U. courses work?

If you’re looking for other courses, Blogging 201: Branding and Growth with return in July, and 201-level writing courses will be back after that, along with intermediate-level blog design courses.

Blogging U. courses exist for one reason: to help you meet your own blogging and photography goals.

  • Courses are free, flexible, and open to all.
  • You’ll get a new task to complete each day, along with our best advice and favorite resources. Do them on your own time, and interpret them however makes sense for your specific blog and personal goals — we’re not grading you, we’re not checking to make sure you complete every task, and there’s no “wrong” way to use the resources we give you.
  • You’ll receive each assignment via email. Each assignment will contain all the inspiration and instructions you need to complete it. Weekends are free.
  • Each course will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting, connecting, and seeking feedback and support. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand to answer your questions and offer guidance and resources. We’re also excited that for the first time, Blogging 101 will have Community TAs — bloggers who have already taken the course, and are there to give you even more support and keep the conversation flowing.

  1. I just signed up for both. Just wanted to know if I’ll get technical advice about how to organize my “free” blog. I’m lost, a dinosaur and scared to try myself because I might lose info. Hope it works out.

  2. I am very new to the blogging world and do so mostly for journal-ing. I could use some help with the interface here and most importantly creating a habit of getting on and writing. I appreciate what you are doing with this!

  3. I very much looking forward to this, I have been struggling to be consistent and get my blog going and get feedback, always feels like my writings just go to the void and one sees them. I am hoping this will help to motivate and coach me towards a better and more consistent blogging 🙂

  4. So appreciative of your help! Looking forward to the social do’s and don’t guidance. Not sure of all the blogging protocols, and this will be very helpful to a solid foundation into the world of successful blogging. Thank you! Vacation return on the 9th of June, hoping I don’t miss too much jumping in a day or so late! Thank you!
