Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging conversation.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once! We tend to delete duplicate comments asking for feedback on the same post.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • When leaving comments, please remember not to add your blog’s url as your signature. It’s kinda spammy: after all, your handle links directly to your blog.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hey guys! I wrote about my positive experience celebrating Holi festival at my school. I posted some cool pictures too if you want to check it out. I also write about other college experiences so it could be useful for people heading off to college next fall.

  2. You could personalise it more in my opinion. It’s bland and a bit dull. If that what’s you want then that’s fair enough but I think there’s room for some colour or something, but that’s just me. Your content is fine, by my kind of thing but it’s fine. You write well and as log as your happy with it, that’s all that matters. If you did want to expand your followers, tagging and categorising would be something to consider 🙂

  3. I’m a relatively new humor blogger and would love any advice! I’m not web design-savvy, so I’ve just been playing around with different themes. I feel like I could add something to my layout to make it more interesting, but I’m not sure what…

Thank you so much for your time(:

    1. I overall liked your content and I think you have a great gift for coming up with titles. I was immediately intrigued by your posts even before I read it. Example “one mans trash is probably just trash” that title caught my attention. Your layout though could use some tweaks. I didn’t like how your font for your font looked exactly like the font for your widgets. This does not allow your writing to be center stage. It makes it more that your writing blends in with the widgets. Remember that the widgets are for readers who want to get interactive and your writing is most important. It is a blog right. Hope this is helpful.

      1. I’m glad you like my content, and thanks so much for your thoughts! You make a good point; I never thought about the font being the same, but I’m not sure if my theme just standardizes everything regardless. I’ll try to fix it, though–thanks again!

  4. This was really helpful! Thank you so much and happy blogging to you all! The only tip/advice that I know to give is to just write what you feel instead of what you think. 🙂

  5. Hello. I have been in blogging for a couple of months now and even though I have had some computer struggles lately and I am posting less and less frequently I am working on a big new series called World Downfall. This series explains reasons why the world is going downhill (this is what I originally called it before realizing it was way to long). Feel free to comment here or on the page any ideas you have that you would like me to have a post on in the series. I am also just looking for some followers as my blog rarely ever gets likes or comments. If you follow me I will follow you.

  7. Hi – I am looking for feedback on the blog submissions. My blog is mostly for friends and family as a way of staying in touch, but I hope if a stranger stumbled upon it, they may get something out it. So strangers, what do you think?

  8. We just updated our blog about the irrelevance of the Second Amendment. We encourage civil comments and thoughtful feedback as all viewpoints are at the core of our belief system – Thank you!

    1. Hi, I enjoyed your civil war photography post-very interesting. A formatting suggestion: You might want to break up the text more (like shorter paragraphs with spaces between). It just makes it a bit more friendly to the quick paced web reading style and looks better in mobile too.

    1. I enjoyed your blog. I don’t think you should change everything. Your pictures line up with what you have just written about, and you use captions to provide additional information. It works for me. Really great blog. Looking forward to future posts.

  9. Hello everyone! I just recently made this blog and I’m super excited about it lol. I’m still having problems figuring out the designs and stuff though and how to categorize your posts 😦 So anyway I just posted an article about the Black Madonna (if you don’t know who she is, might as well read it and learn something new lol) so if anyone could tell me how to categorize or archive my posts that would be great! And also how to create tags in your posts. That’s in advance!!

    1. Hey Anuja! Personally, I am not a fan of the layout. It’s not organized enough for me, but it’s not bad. Regardless, I love the content of your blog. You write nicely!

      1. Thanks for your honest input. I am pretty new at blogging and still experimenting with different layouts. I figured I should focus on building some content first (at least 20 posts) and then will see other layout options 🙂

Glad you liked the content 😀

  10. Hey guys, I would love to get some feedback on my blog. I am new to wordpress, so I don’t have many posts. Also, how can I add a new tab on my site? I want to add a tab that links to a page with writing samples.

    1. After you create the page with the writing samples, go to the “menus” section of the look and feel menu on your site’s main page. Select whichever menu you are using as your default, then click the + sign on the right side of about or home and it will create a new tab. I hope that helped?

Also, I really liked the post about the concert you attended. It gave me flashbacks of going to shows.

  12. Hi all,

I work for a local television news station and I just started a blog that I’m thinking of one day turning into a normal website if it’s something that people are actually interested in. My schtick is to present normal straightforward news stories in a funny, honest way. I’ve found that there are surprisingly few funny news websites out there besides The Onion or The Daily Currant which are composed of madeup, satirical news stories. Here is my approach:

I gave zero thought to how the page was formatted or any such nonsense, I’m just curious if it’s something that anyone would willingly read. Any input would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

  13. Good evening everyone,

I have just entered the bogging community and have posted my first blog post. I am a bit nervous as this is my first time and I am trying to narrow down on the direction I want to go in.

I would really love any type of feedback or advice for my fellow bloggers.

    Much appreciated.

    1. Hi, very nice first post. What an excellent topic for a blog! I am not sure how well the title of your first post ‘knowledge is power’ relates to the actual content of your post. You don’t discuss the ways that knowledge gives power, but the ways that knowledge informs lifestyle. A more relevant title will guide your reader more effectively. Cheers!

      1. I appreciate the feedback. I have changed my title of the blog post to better suit the content. Thank you very much for the input.

  14. I’ve been blogging for about four months, and I’m striving to improve my content. My blog focuses on seasonal happenings (astronomical, ecological, historical, etc.), but I’m afraid my posts are coming off too dry and ‘informational’. I am hoping to solicit opinions from the pool. Do my posts have enough ‘life’ to them? What could I do to make them more engaging or actionable? Two example posts below. Thanks!
