Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hey guys, I have only just recently started a food blog and it would be great if I could get your views on it and see what you think! Don’t mind feedback on any angle from the content to the aesthetics or if you wish to compare it to other food blogs, go for it! Thanks in advance…Here is my site: https://jignatailor.wordpress.com/

      1. Thanks for the positive feedback, babyruthbeer! By more pics, do you mean more step by step images or just more pics of the end result? Thanks again, Jigna P.s loving the pastel look of your blog

    1. Hi there – I looked at your Bulgar wheat, button mushrooms and ginger caramelised cabbage recipe and it looks delicious.

I can see what babyruthbeer is saying about more pictures – some of the processes (like separating the cabbage into layers by hand) could have done with some visual clarification – people might wonder if you mean them to separate the layers before they cube them?) The final photo, with the bulgar in a ball shape made me wonder how you made the shape so evenly? That would be good to know – did you use some special technique or equipment?

It looks as if you know the recipe like the back of your hand, but your readers might get lost and disheartened without more guidance – photo or otherwise.

Your prep time looks a bit minimal – it’s a lot to get done in 5 minutes. 🙂

Lots of luck with your blog

  2. Hi everyone,
I am new to the blogging community and would appreciate any advice on how to do things better. My blog is essential a critics view on life away from home. I migrated from Nigeria to the Uk so largely all my posts are still focused on those two countries but I hope to write someday for people anywhere in the world.

Through the eyes of a migrant.

    Nigeria through pictures.

Please read and let me know your thoughts both on the blog and the articles too.

    Thank you.

  3. I’m seeking advice…What’s your opinion on allowing reposts of your articles on another blog, (not WP). I was asked today if I would contribute, they aren’t aware I have my own blog already. I think I am ok with it, why not, more readers right?! It would be readers that are from my area, so I would be exposed in that light, but think that is ok also. Just wondering if there are any other considerations I am not aware being a new blogger.

    1. The only thing I’d mention is that you’d want to be clear with the other blog that your posts have already appeared elsewhere (your own blog in this case). Few people would be happy learning that a piece they thought was original was actually a repost.

      1. Ben, My plan would be to direct them to my blog and let them decide if any content was of interest And if they want original content…well we could talk from there. Thank you for confirming my instinct, and I take it there are no negatives that I am overlooking. Your voice of experience is appreciated–thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Melissa

    1. Yes, it is possible to put more than two pictures even when using a free theme. Actually you could put as much as you can. Well, as far as I know. I noticed that your blog title and tagline is not clearly seen because of the header. You might want to change that! And btw, I’m also a Filipina! 😀

      1. Also, I’m not sure if you did all the thumbnails on purpose, but it loses the aesthetic of the site. Upload them full-size and then adjust the picture width/height from there!

      1. I love your post, but I have an annoying habit of looking at things from an economist’s perspective (I’m totally American!). I have a couple of Dominican friends that have the friendliest families in the world and I absolutely love having dinners there! Your writing is very easy to read and fun!
