Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Hey, the blog is nicely laid out and the posts are very honest and realistic. As you say, the only way to get really good at something is to practice (something I’m figuring out myself!) but you’ve certainly got very solid foundations to build upon 🙂

      1. Thanks för the tips. I originally only wrote so I could share stories with my family, but now that I am getting more readers and putting more time into this I need to build my page up a bit more

  2. I love your blog , so easy to read and so fun , its just a nice escape from life , and your hard work appears , i suggest you think about writing a book for kids they would really enjoy it or maybe grown ups too i mean i am a grown up and i would really enjoy reading that book , my only suggestion is to write more in your posts maybe 2 to 3 lines more and maybe try to be a little more creative with your post ideas , i mean you are really creative with the writing so it won’t be a problem for you to create different kind of posts , i think it will be better that way . you just earned my follow and i am looking forward to your posts , have fun writing them .

    1. The time I started blogging, which was last January, the course Blogging 101 was opened. I signed up and I learned the basics there. Now I’m taking Blogging 201! Your post is very true. 🙂

    1. I like your idea of taking a “situation sentence” and then stream-of-conscious responding to it – very honest. Have you tried adding categories and tags to your posts to help them show up in searches? Good luck with your writing!

      1. I’ve got to say, this is hilarious to me: “UNICORNS CAN BLOG. I MEAN, EVEN I CAN BLOG. THE ONLY SETBACK… HOW DO YOU TYPE WITH HOOVES? OR DO YOU TYPE WITH YOUR HORN?”. Silly, stream of consciousness blog, I like it.

  3. It’s been a while and so I have decided to update the look of my blog and give it a new name. It’s definitely more personal and I am super excited to get started this year with more consistent blogs. Let me know what you think and I appreciate feedback and ideas of what to talk about because I want a conversation, not a soapbox!

    1. Really interesting first post. Love that your determination comes through in your writing, and the style is great. Remember though that sometimes it is okay just to write, to get your thoughts onto the screen in front of you. Sometimes doing that alone can give them a focus you didn’t know they had, and it is always better to write something. Seems like you’ve got into this for good reasons and that normally means you have something interesting to say, even if you don’t realise it has meaning when you are writing it. Very interested to read more 🙂

    2. This is a great first post! I also like your about page and your layout in general. One thing that’s missing (or at least a bit hidden) is a place for readers to like your post, so I suggest fooling around with the layout to allow likes, comments etc.

  4. Hello! My blog is a little unfocused right now and I would appreciate it tremendously if anyone would like to look through it and tell me which of my posts, or which topic, is the most gripping. I’ll give your blog a look in return!

    1. Several of your posts are very honest, discussing what you have gone through and maintaining a positive focus. I don’t think there is anything wrong with not having a focus; I enjoy the randomness and spontaneity, it shows you have a wide range of interests and thoughts to share

  5. Hi everyone!
I started my blog a few months back hoping to get some readers and feedback because I’m not really sure if it’s any good. Its a fashion, music and photography blog so if anyone if interested it would be awesome if you would check it out! Thanks 🙂

  6. hey there,

I’m totally new here, I have only been blogging for a few weeks. I would love to have a feedback on my language – does it flow and seem natural or not really? Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks a lot ❤

    1. Hi! Had a quick look through your blog. You have picked some great topics and I love your writing style. It flows well and doesn’t over complicate 🙂

    1. The simple answer as to how not to suck…is to blow instead. Blow away any more personal details regarding yourself to the ‘About’ section. Don’t tell the reader things about you that it isn’t essential they know, rather let them discover it for themselves in your writing!
Also, if you are intending to post 365 times don’t set yourself up for a fail, which might only reinforce certain feelings. Rather write some short pithy posts – only a paragraph – about things that you feel now. Write loads of these, get the thoughts out of your head and onto the page, keep them safe and use them as posts when you don’t feel you’ve anything to write about

    1. Hii, I’m not the best blogger in here, but I do know one thing, everyone loves reading and have at least one picture to represent what they read. You resent post had a lot of interest information but without pictures it gets really boring, but you don’t have to saturated with images, maybe five or six images? I hope this helps! xx

      1. Hi thanks a lot for the advise, I definitely see what you mean, was worried that if I used too many pictures readers take the content less seriously hence whey I opted as using images as section breakers. Thanks a lot will definitely be using more pictures in my next posts.

    2. Great amount of content, but it does take a bit to scroll through the home page to read through a post. Have you thought about inserting the “read more” link about 100 -200 words in, possibly right in the middle of an interesting sentence?

      1. Ohh !! That looks so much more tidy thanks ! didn’t even realise I could do that, Will definitely be using this feature in the future. Really new to this so I appreciate experienced bloggers helping. Much appreciation

    1. I relocated last summer and found it a bit overwhelming, I’m still getting used to WordPress to be honest! That said you seem to be making the adjustment very well. Your titles are clever, your layout is easy to navigate and your writing style is very conversational and comfortable. Keep it up!

  8. I am new to blogging, but I have a mission. A BIG mission. I want to change corporate America. Please give me some feedback. I’m still learning layout basics and things of that nature; so ANY tips are helpful. Mostly, I’d like feedback on my content and writing style. Thanks!

    1. When citing references to back up your claims, link them in so the reader can just click to find out more, rather than just give them a website address.

    1. I looked at your blog. The theme looks really nice, it’s easy to the eyes and you can read the words properly. It’s just in a diff language that’s why I don’t understand, but it seems like you’re promoting something?
