Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  3. Quick sneak peak!
    WHY AM I HERE.
I’m not quite sure why I blog, for little while I kept a journal in my lunch box and every opportunity I had I would write in it. Never anything witty or creative simply the way my day unfolded and how I felt. I’ve never enjoyed writing before. Growing up I remember my teacher asking us what we wanted to be when we got older. I wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to argue and prove points. I wanted to be bossy and demanding. I wanted control. Maybe that rooted from never being the popular girl or perhaps the way I always felt like an outcast from birthday parties and after school activities. Who knows…

I appreciate it you could leave some feed back on my latest post! If you’d like to keep reading follow the link 🙂

  4. I used a quote from a book in this post. To make it even more complicated it was a quote within a book that I quoted! I’m not sure how I should reference/cite it? I have vague memories of essay footnoting, but I’m not sure what the blogging requirements are. Any thoughts?

    1. I think you’re supposed to find the original source and quote that. Shoot, just copy how the book cites it.

    1. Honestly, I have such a short attention span and DIY posts interest me. Keeping it short and sweet is okay with me and plenty of other people. 🙂

      1. Lol, thanks. I try to keep everything here a little tongue in cheek at all times, unless otherwise noted (THAT WAS A DISCLAIMER, KIDS).

    1. Hi!
One option you have is to go to Users > My Profile in your dashboard, and remove all information entered in the “About You” box.
This will also remove your personal info from your Gravatar hover card, so it’s something to take into account.

      1. Mmmm … I don’t think I’d like to remove my info from my Gravatar as people want to know about you. In fact, I was thinking of updating and adding a little more to my about page. It’s okay there. I wasn’t sure if it was redundant.
Thank you so very much for answering my question. You’ve helped me tremendously.

  8. I’ve been continuing to write about my meltdown, but this time I chose verse rather than long form paragraphs. Did I hit the mark? Or should I try something different?

  9. Hi all,

I am currently on a trip around the world for one year on $50 a day and just started my blog here:

    http://www.photobotic.wordpress.com

I found that my photos look blurry on the site, but when you click on the actual photo, they look clear. I don’t think anyone will look at my photos closer, so I feel like everyone will think my photos are blurry. Any advice for a web novice to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Vaness,

Just checked out your blog, I love the idea on $50 a day!

Your photos look fine on my computer, clear and not blurry at all.

In your posts, you can change the size of the photos you want to before you add them into your posts, maybe choose original size? But like I said… They look great!

  10. Can anyone tell me how to get a “Pin It” button on my blog posts? I don’t have a huge following on my blog’s Pinterest page, so even though I pin every time I post, it doesn’t spread far. If readers could have an easy way to pin my content as well it’d be a huge help! Thanks 🙂

    1. Heya!

If you go to your dashboard, then settings>sharing you can add Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter etc buttons. I also got a little confused by this initially! I hope this helps 🙂

      1. Thank you so much! Do you know if I can add that to my existing posts, or if I just have to start adding them from now on as I write new posts?

      2. Any time 🙂

I believe that the button should appear at the bottom of each previous post, as well as any new posts you publish automatically once added!

  11. I’m an amateur blogger (high school senior!) who started about a month ago. I’ve been to scared to publicize myself until I wrote a post about college apps advice. I gained popularity from that post and currently working on similar posts such as surviving other tough phases in HS, like the dreaded junior year, time management, etc. I also have an interest in food and will look into posting some reviews or recipes since I also cook and bake. I would love to expand my audience! I know I may be one of the younger ones in the crowd but I’ve got big ambitions and look forward to what oppurtunities this site opens to me 🙂

  13. Hi bloggers

I could use some technical help here please. I can not for the life of me, work out what code to use in the CSS to make the widget headings bigger (I did manage to make them green though, yay me).

I’m only using the basic design upgrade. My theme is Hemingway Rewritten.

Any other thoughts on my content and layout gratefully received too 🙂
