Get Ready for the Next Blogging U. Challenge: Writing 101

Want to flex your blogging muscles and take on a new challenge? Get ready for Writing 101: Building a Blogging Habit, starting Monday, June 2.

Feeling a bit bereft now that Blogging 101 and 201 have wound down, or just looking for a way to cultivate good writing habits? Never fear, Writing 101 is here! (Well, it will be here, starting June 2.) Our next Blogging U. challenge moves away from the technical and design aspects of blogging to focus on your content. Writing 101: Building a Blogging Habit is a write-every-day challenge designed to help you create a writing habit while publishing posts that mesh with your blog’s focus and push you a bit as a writer. Here’s how it works:

  • We’ll post a new writing assignment just for Writing 101 each weekday in June here on The Daily Post. Assignments will publish at 10:00AM EST (14:00PM GMT).
  • There are no weekend assignments — you’re free to expand on a weekday post, write something unrelated, or (gasp!) spend some time away from your blog.
  • Each assignment includes a writing prompt and an optional “twist.” Prompts are your post inspiration for the day, while twists push you to experiment and stretch your writing chops.
  • You can mix assignments up however you’d like. Respond to the prompt, and ignore the twist. Try the twist, but write on your own topic. Use both the prompt and the twist.  The only mandate is that you write every weekday.
  • Participants will have a private community site, the Commons, for chatting, connecting, and seeking feedback and support. Daily Post staff and Happiness Engineers will be on hand in the comments to answer your questions and offer guidance and resources.

  1. I’m looking forward to this too. I didn’t do so hot with the Blogging 101. I didn’t realize how much work it was. But now I know and I can plan better

  2. So excited, I love challenges… and ME time which is what my blogging gives me. A time where the hubby takes care of the kids and I can lock myself in my room with a cup of tea and my blog.

    1. To your blogs; the Commons is just a place for conversation.

If you don’t want to publish every assignment, you don’t have to — you can use some of them as private writing practice.

      1. What other option do I have? Do I need to start another blog to do the challenge? I am really interested in the challenge, but only intend to post to eusebianlife monthly (for now).

      2. No, you don’t need another blog — just wanted to make sure that’s the blog you’re using (some folks have more than one) so I have the right contact info for adding you to the challenge.

  3. Not yet sure what i’ve gotten myself into, but I’m sure I will come out better because of it. If even it is just knowing my limits and capabilities. 🙂

  4. I’m excited to join this! I love prompted writing, it pushes me into using my imagination. I love writing about life, kids and Faith, but sometimes I need a little variety.

    1. It’s a challenge to get off to to a strong blogging start — writing, setting up your theme, reaching out the community, etc. It just wrapped up; we’ll be running it again later this year. You can also see the assignments under Blogging 101.
