3, 2, 1… BLOG! Zero to Hero starts now

The Zero to Hero 30-Day Blog Challenge starts… wait for it… now!

Your first task is up on the main Zero to Hero page, along with some helpful resources and a link to our first forum thread, where you can chat with other challenge participants. You can also tag published posts with zerotohero to make it easy for us to find one another — after all, blogging isn’t just about you, it’s about community.

If you’re still not sure whether you want to commit, here’s the skinny: you’ll do one focused task each day — sometimes writing, sometimes reading, sometimes tinkering with WordPress.com — until you’ve got a solid foundation and a reader-ready blog. At the end of January, you’ll have:

  • A half-dozen (or more) published posts.
  • A handful of draft posts and post ideas to help get you through your next 30 days.
  • A customized theme, with widgets to draw new readers in and highlight your favorite reads.
  • Reader full of great (and inspiring!) blogs to follow.
  • A (small but growing) audience.
  • An understanding of the blogging community, blog etiquette, and how to build a readership of your own.

To participate, bookmark this page, and check in each day for an assignment. (All past assignments will be listed there too, so you can jump in at any point and catch up.) If you want to do more or re-interpret something, feel free — just try to complete the tasks in order, since they build on one another.

If you’re participating, we’d appreciate it if you could let us know — w e’d love to follow your blogs, and will get in touch at the end of the challenge for your thoughts and feedback:

Now go forth and blog!

  2. I’m a procrastinator, so my trick to accomplishing this challenge involves not having a beer until
I’m done– or close to done– with each blog. Cheers!

  3. I had published my first post for awhile now, just started inviting friends today. I guess I overcame the “what if it’s not good enough” syndrome.

  4. this looks like a great opportunity, even for those of us who have been blogging for a while. there’s always something new to learn, if nothing except an easier way to reach goals than with the trial-and-error systems!

  5. I’ve been blogging couple times a week for a month now. I used to have a newspaper column. Writing doesn’t scare me. But I need lots and lots of help making my blog shine. I want it to be fresh and snappy like a newly painted door!

  6. I kinda stop writing for two months because of my thesis, and now I’m back. Entering this would motivated me more to write, knowing that I have something to write, knowing that there are people who pushed me to write 🙂
    Really looking forward to it!

  9. I wrote my first post on November 2012. I edited (my atrocious writing skills) and included the link on the main page. Is it okay? 🙂

  10. I started blogging again about a month ago. It has been hit and miss for me since I have had much going on in my life. Divorce, nine grandchildren, caring for aged mother, and so on. Things have seemed to die down somewhat, and I thought maybe I should just start afresh and learn the basics of running a blog. Day 1 is written. Not sure where to post it, but it is on my blog.

  11. I started my blog last month, more for a outlet to deal with life by blogging about my favorite past times, and love for art. I’m not the most confident person, and so I’m always a little hesitant to try new things, but I so badly want to Improve my little blog….so i’m a little scared/excited to start this…I’m nervous., but i’m also a little hopeful of what I’ll can find in these 30 days. Did i mention i’m nervous?
