Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for input, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else. If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . .

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.

    1. Nice idea. It would be good if you could give potential writers an idea of what you are looking for (prose, poetry; fiction, nonfiction; length) because that is going to be important in administering your blog. “Anything” doesn’t fly. You probably don’t want a twenty-page political essay, or a Dantesque epic poem, are examples of what I mean. Go for it!

  1. Quick question: how can I find out the total number of Likes I have received thus far? For a while, I was getting notifications, but this seems to have stopped. Alienora

  2. Harper College’s Phi Theta Kappa organization invites artists, arts administrators and organizers, curators, scholars, museum professionals, educators, and other members of the visual and literary arts community to submit works of ANY FORM AND SCALE that address the theme of “Competition in the Arts”. Submissions can be documentation of realized projects, and/or proposals for unrealized, or unrealizable projects. This may take the form of a proposed arts exhibition on behalf of a curator, an arts program developed by an arts educator, a panel discussion developed by an art historian, or a special event to be presented at a museum. We will compile these proposals as a scholarly digital catalog. This catalog will be released on a dedicated website in Spring 2014. Our aim is to compile a variable perspective of the theme from those that contribute to our culture’s notion of art and its operations. Submit proposals and questions to ptk@harpercollege.edu

    1. Hey there! Good job overall, but I see a few capitalization errors in there. For me, that counts a lot on first impressions. Also, I read you gym post (it made me laugh, thank you!) but I think you added to many parenthesis. A few times is okay, humorous, but after a while it makes you look like you are trying too hard. I followed you, I’m waiting for some more posts 🙂

  4. I would be so grateful if someone could explain to me (replying here, please NOT on the blog) why I get so few clicks going outwards from my blog. I put a lot of care into choosing outbound links as an integral part of my posts’ meaning and am surprised that people don’t click outward. All my links open into new tabs/windows, so my blog tab/window doesn’t close up. Thanks in advance.

  6. Happy Saturday everyone, hello.

Five days ago on Monday, Nov. 18 I has asked here at the Community Pool if someone would stop by my site and give me their opinion as to whether my “About Mark” page was up to “normal acceptable standards” since it seems to be a very important for many people.

I even said that if they had time to read a few of my posts (it’s a new blog so not many posts) to see if my writing style is okay or if I’m too wordy, had serious grammatical errors, or whatnot.

I saw via the stats page/referrer links that a few people stopped by but no one left any comments here or at the blog, about what they thought.

I don’t mind where you comment (here or at the blog), I’m not concerned with stats; I’m just seeking advice and opinions as to whether everything seems okay or if something should be re-worked to make my blog more inviting, readable and appealing.

If you can, please stop by and I thank you in advance.

    ~~ Mark
