Community Pool

The Community Pool is for those of you looking for input, whether on post ideas, writing, blog design and layout, or anything else. If you have a post, page, or idea you want to bounce off someone, leave a comment. Your fellow bloggers can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Read on for the ground rules and to leave a comment . . .

  • You’ll get the best feedback if you can be as specific as possible about what you’d like people to respond to or where you’re struggling.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. We’re here to help and support one another, not to beat anyone down.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.

    1. Site your images, where are you getting them from? Also, about page! (this seems to be a theme today 🙂 ) When you site your pics, you are giving the artist credit, which in turn could get you more readers, from pingbacks.

  2. Hello, everyone. It’s been quite a while since I started blogging. Check out my works. I don’t quite know how to put things so I just write down whatever that comes in to my mind. What do you think? Are they pointless? Are they too simple? Am I trying too hard? Please tell me. I really want to improve my writing skills. Thanks!

  3. I enjoy writing, but I’m never very sure of my direction. I am taking the time to use my wordpress actively, but I’m new to it and the content is sporadic and disjointed at best. Checking my stats I was surprised to see that I’ve actually had visitors, but no feedback. Maybe I’ll get that here: http://risamaerogers.wordpress.com/

    1. I liked the layout and the date on each picture – along with the variety of photos. One is able to quickly get an idea of the work you do. Very nice!

      1. Maybe I can work on the about me page more. I have been apprehensive about filling in the blanks there as I am not sure how much of this blog is personal and how much topic based, still trying to find a balance.

  4. Is my blog easy to navigate? Also, is having more than one recipe per post, too much? One more thing…Is having pampered chef on my site a turn off?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Sarah, I don’t see a problem with promoting Pampered Chef. It’s appropriate as it pairs nicely with your food blogs. Cute social media widgets peaking out on top bar – may get more attention on the side bar.

  5. I’m always late to these posts! But this weekend I completely re-tooled my site – with a new header, updated colors, and some new buttons for pinterest/facebook/etc. I would love some feedback – particularly on the header as I made it myself!

  6. Hi fellow bloggers,

I’d like you thoughts on the layout of my blog. I’m new and have only had it 5 weeks. I’m still trying to learn how to drive traffic to it, and how to make it appealing. One specific thing, I have a like my page on Facebook widget on the side, but when you view the blog on a mobile device, the right column doesn’t appear. Anyone know how to make it appear right under new post on a mobile device? If you can, I’d prefer comments about ways to improve to ne posted back here and not on the blog itself.
    Thanks!

    1. I really liked the clean and simple layout and you have some interesting posts on parenting. My only suggestion would be to check for typos/spelling as it can distract.

      1. Thanks for the feedback!
I try to proof read everything but its never that effective when doing it on your own work as your brain automatically puts in the words you thought you wrote…. If you know what I’m getting at? Lol

  8. Hey, everybody. This is my first time posting in the community pool, and I’m just looking for a little feedback on my blog, specifically the content. I started the blog a few months ago and ended up starting a new job shortly after, so I haven’t been able to post as much as I would like. Now that my training is over and I’m settled in to the new job, I’m hoping to update the blog twice a week.

It’s a pop culture blog called Swanky Trash (no, I don’t know why I named it that lol). Although it’s not specifically for a gay audience, I’ve ended up posting mostly gay friendly content. But that could do with the fact that I’m…gay. The layout of the blog is a little bare bones at the moment, but I’m having a friend redesign it for me, so I’m not too concerned about how it looks.

What I mostly want to know is, if you think the blog, with the few posts I’ve made, has a cohesive enough voice. Should I be focusing my content to one area in particular? Does each piece fit well with the tone I’ve tried to establish. And anything else you’re willing to point out, I’m all ears.

Also, I’d be glad to take a look at anybody else’s blog that provides feedback for me. 🙂

  9. Hi…Is there anyone here who is using the Sunspot theme? I would like to use it at some point, but my blog’s name doesn’t show correctly using it. Because the font is quite big, it cuts off part of the first word and the rest of the letters end up on the following line, like BUTTERF-LY JEWEL’S-BLOG. Is there a way to correct this?

  10. Dear peeps,

I’m a long time reader of the Community Pool, but this is my first time submitting anything for consideration.

I would appreciate your feedback on the formatting of a particular post. It is a long one, but very essential to my blog.

I have done some research and made several amendments to the layout. I’d like to know the following: Is the post easy to read? Does the formatting work with the length of the piece? Is the information clear and easy to follow?

Please be brutally honest in your assessments. Good, bad or indifferent, I want to hear what you’ve got to say. I don’t scare easily; and want to know what I can do to make the post as impactful as possible.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance,
