  1. Milk shakes, Russian-style cabbage and onions, caffe mocha. It’s funny. I always thought lactose intolerance was an all or nothing deal. It seems to have crept up on me in my late 20s. Butter seems the to have the worst effect and what I miss most. Cabbage and onions just isn’t the same without it. I never used a lot of it, and though I have used substitutes it’s never quite right, especially on cold and dark winter nights.
Over the years the reactions have gotten worse, but I seem to miss those foods less and less. Not in an angry or determined way. It’s more that I don’t notice those foods, that they have just dropped off the radar of my tastes.

  2. Is this a trick question? My list of foods grows longer every year and I don’t think I ever scratched one off. Of course, favorites come and go. There was an intense snicker bar phase a few years ago and another time when I craved pickleloaf sandwiches from a certain deli. Mmmm!

  3. Surprisingly, it was easier to come up with things I wouldn’t eat as a child but I eat (and often LOVE) now. But, I did come up with one thing…BOLOGNA. Like the sandwich stuff. I can’t remember the last time I had a slice and I am 110% ok with that! I probably just came to my senses. Today I wouldn’t dream of buying the stuff as I work really hard to only eat meat from local sources. If I don’t know where it came from, I try to keep it out of my body. Until bologna fits that description, I probably won’t return.

  4. I used to love macaroni and cheese and eat whole boxes for dinner on a regular basis.

Since I have had kids, however, I’ve been healthier and try to cook fresher, more natural and balanced meals. Funny though – all they want to eat is boxed mac and cheese – go figure. (But I don’t blame them.)

  5. I can think of two things that I adored as a child, but can’t stand now. First is sweet pickles. I have determined in my adult years that sweet and pickled don’t belong together. I don’t like sweet pickles or sweet pickle relish, or even the sweet pickled jalapenos. Regular pickled jalapenos are fine, and usually preferable to fresh, but for some reason that sweet with the pickled flavor I find nauseating. Likewise, I used to love hot cocoa with marshmallows. Now, if I have hot cocoa at all, (which is rare for me), it’s never with marshmallows.

  6. Does it have to be by choice? I love cheese, pasta, bread, and eggs, but now avoid them because of food sensitivities. Sometimes I cheat though, and sometimes pay the price!

  8. Cinnamon. I know it’s a spice, not a food, but since I no longer like it, or can even stomach it, it eliminates cinnamon buns and other pastries. I am also beginning to dislike artificial cinnamon flavoring, so goodbye Big Red chewing gum, Atomic Fireballs, and those hard candies my bank leaves out by the deposit slips. I also am finding that cinnamon pops up a lot during the Christmas season. Blurgh. Even thinking about it is turning my stomach. 😦

I have no idea what changed with my taste buds. I now like Brussel sprouts (or is it brussel? Brussels? brussels? those little green brain-looking vegetables), when I didn’t before. Maybe it’s some sort of bizarre trade.

  9. It was this apple pie that family members used to buy me. It was huge and made by a local place. It was SO DELICIOUS! Problem was no one else would eat it so it was “for me” and then I got nagged into “finishing it before it goes bad”. I couldn’t stomach it again. It got to the point where taking my first bite of the pie would make my stomach tense up and feel ‘full’ already. I couldn’t eat that stuff ever again.

  10. Beef, not sure what changed other than in my late twenties my body started having a hard time digesting beef to the point where I would get sick whenever I ate beef.

  11. When I was a kid, my mom would make a quick takeaway lunch for me, Raw egg with rice. I’d eat it while we watched movies with her friends. They had free tickets since a friend owned the cinema. Or I’d love chicken skin. Now I wonder why I ever loved them. I can just puke thinking of eating them. bleah.

  12. For years I’d heard and read that grapefruit was good for you. So I developed a one- or two-grapefruit a day habit. I’d buy the juicy sweet pink ones and go to town with them. Usually I’d have one for breakfast (along with a banana or two) and the other later as a snack. Alas, I had a kidney transplant, and grapefruit would work against just about every one of the meds I have to take now. Some enzymes block certain meds so it would be like I hadn’t taken it, while another amplifies the effect of the meds, as if I had overdosed. 😐

  14. There is a group of food that I used to love and that is Seafood; all types. I used to crave it and even make reasons to go to the restaurant to eat it. Now, however, I can’t stomach any type of Seafood. It is too salty or something. Apparently my taste buds have gone wonky. I truly miss Seafood; I really do. Boo Hoo!!!!

  15. I used to love black chocolate. Until my mum bought me packs of it so I could think better for my exams. I ate it every day. For about a week.
It took me about half year to be able to even put a bit of it in my mouth.

  16. Haven’t touched a fast-food hamburger since high school. Had one then that stayed with me at least three days. Can’t eat too much white bread or normal pasta anymore either. Switched to multi-grains. There is no going back.

  17. Escargot. I’d never had them (probably never heard of them too) until I got married. I tried the at a restaurant at the urging of my husband who loves them. For quite awhile I’d order them, soaking up the garlic sauce with bread and loved them. I never tried cooking them. Now I can’t fathom eating them. Don’t know why.

  18. Asparagus. I loved that stuff as a kid, also because it makes your pee smell bad, and when you’re a kid, you think that’s “soooo cooool!” When I was around 14, I got braces, and the asparagus fibers would stick between my teeth and get all caught up in my braces (same with corn, but I like corn). On top of that, I just stopped appreciating the taste of it. But yeah… asparagus. Meh.

  20. La mayoría ha cambiado, con ese slogan “todo entra por los ojos” cada comida lo sofistican tanto que parecen pinturas y cuadros de arte, que pasaría de imprudente comérselo.

  21. I love eating fried items………..especially yummy yummy potato curry……..but now it’s long time since i had tasted it. One reason is that iam desperately trying to reduce my weight…….and next is taking my husbands health in to consideration. He has Blood pressure………..Oil and salt are the best enemies for Blood pressure. So we stopped preparing it at home.

But I still remember the days we stayed in a joined family and the way potato curry was prepared. It gets prepared in a big pan for 21 members with oil, onions, curry leaves, all spices etc……..the smell itself will make people go mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Within a fraction of seconds it will get over………and people who come home late will have to just see the empty pan……….with some left overs…………Those days were too good………….Mom’s preparation was and is always the best one i had ever tasted…………..

Waiting to taste the same again if i get a chance!!!!!!!!!! Can I
