If you could be part of any fictional universe, what would it be? And why? (For example Star Wars, Mad Men, Hamlet, etc.)

Damages TV show. With Glenn Close and Rose Byrne. Sure, being part of that fictional world the chances that I would end up dead would be great, but hey, I’d get to work for Patty Hewes!

The Lord of the Rings; I felt I was part of it when those movies came out because my family was so wrapped up in it. We quote lines and compare places and personalities to scenes and characters.

A romantic musical with Howard Keel as the leading man. Or maybe Fred Astaire. Oh, um, perhaps Gene Kelly. I sing and dance and nobody laughs. Unless it’s in the script. And not much. Or perhaps a lot, but because I’m so fantastically funny. Uh, could I change him to, maybe, Van Johnson?

I’d love to be on a planet where communication is direct and instantaneous on sight, unlike earthlings’ linear speech that by itself is so prone to misunderstandings. I think language is such a drag, One has to use so many words to convey a meaning and even then, perhaps not exactly successful.

No,no, no! Language can be beautiful if we use it correctly. That’s where a thesaurus is so helpful–one word to replace four or five or more. I once wrote a poem in an English Lit class using the word “kitsch.” Someone asked what it meant. Several people tried to explain it using their own several-word descriptions. But if she had checked a dictionary or thesaurus, she would have known what the word meant. I had a difficult time explaining the meaning to her, because I knew what “kitsch” meant, and that’s why I used the word instead of 16 others…poems especially teach one to be very exacting in their choice of words. Writers in particular should know the beauty of the English language and its nuances and which one word will suffice. I’ve been with people who know how to use the beauty of the language even in their daily conversations and I’ve been with those who don’t. And really, education has not much to do with it. There’s a lady who lives behind me. She’s 64 years old and is bipolar and dyslexic. She can’t read or write. But she communicates beautifully. (Her dog’s name,I thought, was Jody. But she explained that it was G.O.D., something she could remember how to spell. Is that beautifully nuanced or what?) Oh, and one more thing…instantaneous communication had better have smog alerts and privacy/security choices…there are a lot of one-word, beautifully descriptive things that run around in my head I wouldn’t want just anyone to see;)

A universe with the characters from Anne of Green Gables at least long enough to explore the community as she knew it. There was a different sinse of community that isn’t know today.

Firefly please. Could I rent the other shuttle on Serenity but not have to be a companion? I’d love to go moon to moon and explore different cultures, as a healer or midwife. Although that “the Earth got used up” line at the beginning gives me the heebie-jeebies…
