What’s a food you’ve always wanted to try?

Topic #205:

What’s a food you’ve always wanted to try? But have chickened out on trying? (lol, chickened.)

Topic suggested by Food Snob Squared, at the Anti-Food snob (which I think should really be called the Anti ‘Food snob’).

  1. Three years ago in Alaska, I tried oysters for the first time. Living in the Midwest, I hadn’t had much opportunity to sample fresh oysters before. Not bad.

  3. Have you ever watched Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern?

Even if I weren’t adverse to carnivorous foods, the stuff he sticks in his mouth would NEVER pass my lips without strenuous argument and objection.

I am disinclined to eat a frog’s beating heart, drink lizard sake, or quaff bull’s rectum and testicle soup.

  4. It’s just Food Snob Squared, actually. Another way of saying anti food snob, like food snob snob. Cause I’m a nerd.

Anyway, my food I always wanted to try but will chicken every time is “calf fries.” A lot of people in my family eat them and just rave about them but I can’t make myself try it. Other things are gizzards and livers which are totally Southern but I just can’t do it.

  5. I’m a vegetarian (no meat, including fish), but have no objections to cuisines from around the world. Everything from Vietnamese and Afghan to Ethiopian and German, I have favorite dishes. But, I have yet to sample foods from New Zealand and really want to try some iconic Kiwi dishes. I like kiwi fruit, do you think they’re included somehow?

  7. I am not really an Anti-food snob, I don’t think. I can eat most foods but I cannot eat oysters. People tells me that they are really good. I look and think that I will try some but I always chicken out.

  8. You guys are missing out on the sushi… I would like to try live octopus in Japan but I am afraid that I would choke to death. I will probably not ever do it but it’s fun to think about. That being said, everyone should try eating Filipino balut…

  9. Lamb Trotters were strictly no no for me for a long time. Once I was at a place, with my friends, where lamb trotters soup was very popular. I thought then why can’t I eat and then I had it for the first time. And lamb trotters became one of my favourite. That was 25 years back.

    1. Hi Prashant. Strong curried lamb trotters and beans are delicious and is a delicacy in Durban. You have to make a potjie no. 5 pot on an outside fire and call all your friends! Serve it with soft roti and sambals
