Topic #183:
Are you happy or sad the Space Shuttle has been retired? What do you think the next goal for humans in space should be, and what do you think Russia and China, the new leaders, will do next? Is it important enough to get funding before other needs?

So this is true? My inlaws were talking about this and I thought it was just propaganda……my wife mentioned what are little kids going to do now? They cannot dream about becoming astronauts now….That kinda hit me….I’m sad about it.

Yeah, I know. It will be much tougher to become an astronaut, now that Americans will be relying on Russia and their not as advanced space shuttle technology to get to space. Plus, knowing that NASA is downsizing employees is kind of scary. 0_0 Hopefully, someday in the future, human spaceflights will take off from American soil again.

Personally I’m glad, now maybe “they” will concentrate on getting through the gravity barrier, which sticks us here like a sore under a plaster.

They said they would now be focusing on Vesta and Mars. Don’t know about any other projects yet, but I’m excited to find out. (I watched one of their meetings.) Pretty interesting. For me it’s sad because NASA’s been doing it for 30 years, since I was a kid, on American soil. It feels like we’re really saying goodbye to space, but they’re now going to start doing NEW research and hopefully learn new things about Vesta and Mars, etc, through they’re newest deep space exploration technology. We’re now starting new projects for our great great GREAT grandchildren (if humanity is still around) to someday benefit from. That’s what I keep telling myself when I get sad for a moment about it.

I’m sad the Space Shuttle has been retired. Has anyone asked the SS what he thinks about all this? I mean, now he’s just going to be moping around the house without purpose, watching TV and drinking and bothering Mrs. Space Shuttle. I think China’s going to come across the Bering Strait and Russia is going to sell nukes to Iran and North Korea.

I missed a flight in Concorde by two weeks. I’ve missed a flight in the space shuttle by slightly more than that – but it would have been fun!

I have no feelings about the space shuttle retiring at all. If those who are in charge of this feel it’s time to retire the shuttle, end of story. Space exploration will be continued because of the discoveries, etc., done in space that cannot be done on earth, one example, the wobble of the earth. Probably wise to continue research in this to keep up with other countries. If the US does not, this could lead to problems in the future. Not very exciting. But space exploration lost its sparkle for me, especially after the Challenger.

I dislike the fact that we have discontinued the space shuttle. I know many individuals that are being effected by this. It is a sad topic of mine.

I don’t know what to say about the retirement of the Space shuttle. No idea at all. That is the reason, that I have to pass on this one.

Worst decision I have ever heard! I am not happy at all about it!
I could go on a rant about this one, but who would listen?
One small step for man, one giant leap backwards for mankind!

Not so much sad, as worried… I live in Florida and our economy has had enough hits. The space program brings in tourists and tourists spend money. Many local businesses depend on tourism for their livelyhood and believe me when I tell you, not everyone who visits Florida is just interested in theme parks.

All that has happened is we do not have the money to keep it going. It has not gone anywhere , we have learnt a lot from it, and when we do have money for it again we will use it again. We need jobs and homes or have you forgotten the poor you rich thoughtless ones.

Sad but happy.
Sad because they had to put away a piece of artwork on outer reaches of the world. Happy because maybe people should continue exploring the inner depths which is their heart (heart here refers to the mind).

Absolutely pleased! Not since the moon landing and Hubble telescope
has anything of importance been done. The tax drain for the shuttle
was sold as a way for science to present new wonders to us all. To date
the only life changer to come from the program was teflon which unfortunately causes cancer. The rest of it is nothing more than a feign to
try to prove evolution by visiting planets in our solar system? In reality it is an expensive hobby that should be pursued by private enterprise. How
about exploring the ocean depths in the unseen ninety percent as yet
unseen? Perhaps the cure for cancer is within our grasp.
