How do you know where your boundaries are?

Topic #181:

How do you know where your boundaries are?

We all have limits for what we are willing to try, or do, but how do you know that you haven’t gone far enough? Or when you go too far?

  1. This is a weird question. I thought the question was about establishing personal boundaries with how other people interact with us. How do I know my own boundaries? I know I haven’t gone far enough if I’m not energized and I’m not stepping outside of my comfort zone. I know I’ve gone too far if I have an immediate feeling of regret or need to “fix” a situation.

  2. My body tell me. Everybody’s body does the same, but most of the time we’re so unconscious of what our body is doing, cut off from the neck down, that we don’t pay attention. Too short for an essay – but I did write a book about it!

  3. as far as our limits morally, i personally let God set my boundries, and my own conscience, if my conscience says it’s wrong then to me it is wrong.
i also agree with janet, that are bodies tell us if we are over the boundries.

  4. I think we will never know where our boundaries truly are until we break a few bones or heart consistently.

If you feel that there’s still one more plan that might do the trick, then you probably haven’t gone far enough.

When you have exhausted all your means, but you still keep using the same futile approaches while clinging on to a bunch of negative emotions like anger, desperation, exhaustion… then that’s on the overboard path.

  5. I think the only way you know you have reached your boundary NOW is if you fail now.
Of course your boundary next week may be different – you might have grown your physical, mental or emotional capacity during this period. If you do nothing, your boundary is bound to wither. Boundary is dynamic by nature.

  6. You will know when you reach that boundary. It’s that weird feeling inside you, that makes you stop and think, “Is this worthwhile?”. It’s that uncomfortable feeling, maybe a butterfly in a stomach, or a sudden feeling of impending danger, or something that makes you feel that you had to stop of whatever you’re doing, because you already have reached that boundary. It feels different in every people. But surely when you reach that point, you will just KNOW instantly (whether you acknowledge it or not). You will feel it.

  9. Boundaries, what are those? Yes there are things I will not do, such as something that is illegal, I don’t consider that a boundary, but it’s the law. As far as personal boundaries, they are simply challenges that one must decide to overcome. Anyone allowing boundaries to hinder their growth will miss so many of the good things their life has to offer. Let’s bust right on through those boundaries and do the remarkable!

In my opinion, the life that we live in must not be put a boundaries because if we limit ourselves to the things that we can do, the tendency is that we might not be able to do others things that we wanted. Life is too short to put a boundaries on it. It is just a matter of time. If we have our own times, pretty much we can utilize it in such a productive way by planning and organizing a simple checklist on a daily routines.

  12. If you push the boundary hard enough and far enough it will snap (it has too); this my friends is what is called a breakthrough! You see our boundries are defined in our hearts and minds… believe and you WILL achieve. FYI: I am currently stretching my boundry w a y further than ever before!!!

  13. boundaries, i believe are the laws tht govern an individual- the values we live by and live for.going beyond this circle for someone u love or something you believe in .one does nt know this until the basic principles tht you live by are questioned and you are pushed to the extent to rethnik on our lif, priorities, people… u feel a void, a neccessity to go on until you reach tht level of fulfillment.

I try not to even give an opinion in other people’s affairs. Sometimes I do volunteer suggestions to loved ones, often trying not to ‘force’ my opinion on them. Sometimes I regret having done so, because by doing so, I would have unintentionally said I did not trust their judgement. The best thing to do is what we were told in school, “mind your own business’. of course, unless the other person needs some real help, even when he/she is not aware of it.

  15. boundaries to me is whether you are interested in something, what you like or not like to spend your time in. your boundaries can be attacked when someone tries to force you to do something you surely don’t like and wont enjoy.
