What one feature do you wish WordPress.com had?

Ok. This is one is a bit of a cheat, as it’s kinda, sorta, my job to find ways to make WordPress.com better. But since you’ve been using WordPress all these many weeks, to make all those fine posts, every day (or week) even when you didn’t really want to, why not write a post about either: a) Your feature wishlist (what do you wish WordPress.com did?) or b) Your top complaints, especially as it regards being a frequent blogger (which all of you are).

  4. More drag and drop widgets would be good – I am just too dumb to figure out all the HTML stuff to do this manually…

    Also I’d like to see the ‘new post’ fullscreen view go back to having access to all the editing tools not just the minimalist tool bar in the new version…think we may have fixed something here that wasn’t that broken…

  7. Ability to add the Google Analytics code to the free blogs as well. I believe the blog software at wordpress.org has that option but the wordpress.com blogs dont have that. The short-coming of this is that I’m unable to understand the geographic reach that my blog has. I’m impressed with the amount of stats wordpress offers at the moment but if there was a pie-chart or something that could give more insights into the reach, it would help.

The ability to adjust or tweak the theme without having to know html, css etc. I’ve designed websites for a number of years and I love WordPress because for the most part it’s not necessary to know the language that drives it. I would like more control over the layout, design, fonts etc though. I know different themes have options to change but it would be nice to have more of those or more ways to really customise your blog to make it unique.

    1. I second this one! CSS completely baffles me – and I have tried to use the help and forums within WP, but haven’t been too successful… I know basic HTML, but for whatever reason the whole CSS thing is just beyond me…

    2. :i’ve not the ability to change anything on my web site and as far as html,css, rss,and pms i’m totally effed.i need help before i total my website.one step at a time maybe i could do this shit.If only wordpress and others alike used picture cards i mite make ago of it..see i’m a retired builder and we use blueprints to work from,just like a picture card .so for dummies like me to understand, some one needs to go the extra yard…..please help ,shithotshirtcompany.com

  9. 1. Multi language posting system and multi language commenting system should be improved. Automatic basic translation option should be provided for every post (using google translate).
    2. Integration with google analytics, webmaster tools, adsense, amazon affiliates.
    3. Theme rating (there are just too many themes for beginners to choose from, which might get them confused) – Most used themes list.
    4. Simpler/ easier youtube video embedding.
    5. Display Random posts per category – Widget (or) Front page slideshow.
    6. Similar posts (at the end) widget.
    7. Widget for displaying an image (with a link) in the sidebar.
    8. Request for confirmation when ‘Publish/Post’ is clicked. Sometimes, users click it accidentally instead of saving them in drafts.

    2. I wish WP would display badges instead of links to things I’m part of – Like British Mummy Bloggers or Tots 100. When HTML is entered as text widget – It displays link instead! Not sure how to change this.

      So links with pictures in right column please

    4. D. Infinity, I caution you about the Google translator. It is often inaccurate and will give a literal translation or use a meaning for a word that has multiple meanings. The result is sometimes confusing, sometimes laughable. A person’s real meaning could be completely distorted.

  11. When I use a single photo in my post and then put ta link to it in Facebook or LinkedIn, the photo shows along with the initial verbiage of the piece. A nice little carrot to dangle.

    However, when I use a slideshow in my post and then put a link to it in Facebook or LinkedIn, only the initial verbiage of the piece shows. No nice little carrot…

  13. I think an option allowing comments to be edited by the authors in a limited amount of time (say, 5 minutes) would be a nice feature, so in case someone comments something and realizes something is wrong he can correct it by himself.

    – table capability
    – slide show capability in the header or as a widget

  16. I don’t know if this is possible, but what I want is a “log in” window. I manage several WordPress blogs, and going back and forth is a headache. I have to log out, and then go to WordPress.com to log in again. Thank you for the opportunity.

    – how about an index – not just the list of tags and categories, but an alphabetical listing of all the posts?
    – let me mention and link to my business and products pages from time to time.

    There is another widget I thought of a few weeks ago, but I can’t remember at the moment. I’ll let you know if I think of it again.

    1. multiple blogs can post on a single facebook account from one account.
    2. originator of searches by region of the world (like google blogger does). it is more of a curiousity than anything else.

  19. ok, I know this isn’t a post…but my only thing I would like changed is this: after you publish a post and notice a typo or want to change or update your post, that is sends out kind of an update or notice email to subsribers. ‘Cuz they get the new post, but don’t know about new changes, which would be kind of nice. Thanks WordPress, you’re the best!

  20. When I leave a comment on a post that is likely to get many replies (like this one) I’d like the option to be only be notified by email when someone replies to *just* my comment.
    This is NOT because I don;t come back and read a lot of the other comments but because I don;t want to see the 280 emails jamming up my email inbox telling me that someone has commented on this thread.

    Oh and for these WP posts by staff, PLEASE PLEASE page numbers so that if I know that I commented on page 7 I don’t have to hit “newer posts” and scan everything until I find it, and a possible reply.

    and… in the new dashboard, if you want to type in the text box (main one or title) close to the left hand edge, it seems to make some of the pop out boxes in the far left toolbar jump out and it’s a right pain to try and get them closed again. if they stay open you can’t see what you want to type in the box underneath.

    Also, when I add anglo ( ie non usa) english spelling (or dutch or french) to my “add to dictionary” in the spell check, why do these words never show in the drop down suggestion word list at any later date?
    (it would make quicker editing for words that have accents for instance, or all the words I spell with a “U” color/colour . or an S instead of a Z etc)

    For the rest, yes I am sure I could think of many more improvements, BUT I’m also delighted for all the hard work that WP folks put in behind the scenes already and what they have already achieved. Thanks!

  23. I really want likes to be available on the stats page! At the moment, the only way I know if a post has been liked is if I check my emails, which I only do about once a week, or I if I happen to look at my own post, which I do even more rarely. People liking what I write is such an encouragement, especially if it only had ten hits, if five of them liked it, I’d love to see this at a glance on my stats page (which I check every day, sometimes more than once… sad I know…)

    1. I second that request. I would love to move my self hosted WordPress blog to WordPress.com but won’t given that almost all my posts are written in Markdown. It would be easier for me to move my blog to Tumblr (supports Markdown) but Tumblr has performance and stability issues.

    2. I’ll second (or is it third?) the vote for Markdown. I need any help I can get to be more prolific… Thus far, I’ve been posting in HTML because I’m a control freak. Markdown would give me a little more control over post appearance, and avoid my having to compose and convert offline and copy/paste to WordPress! (Heck, I’ve already been composing, copying, and pasting HTML, so I need all the help I can get.)

  26. 1) This is a really lame writing topic.
    2) Add the ability to edit, or even better, DELETE your own comments. It annoys me that I can’t delete my own words.
    3) Some basic text format buttons on the comments box would be nice. For instance, it would have been nice to italicize “delete” instead of capitalizing it without resorting to html since I’m far too lazy for that.
    4) Add a link to “drafts” under the “posts” sidebar. The only way to get to drafts now is from the main dashboard page. If you’re not on that page (which I rarely am), you have to click on “posts” or “all posts” (which actually go to the same place – a little redundant, don’t you think?), and then click on drafts.
    5) This is semantic nitpicking, but since we’re on the subject of the sidebar, I hate the “Feedbacks” link. Some might consider “Feedbacks” to be a countable noun, but I’m not one of those people. I like my English old school. Feedback has always been most commonly accepted as a non-countable noun. Therefore, it is “Feedback” no matter how much you request or receive. Just sayin’.

    * Ability to delete own comments on others’ blogs
    * “latest posted” and “latest commented” on blogs – sorted by nation/language for instance. It gives a nice overview. Or maybe there is a better way, I haven’t gotten to check subscriptions yet. :*

  28. How nice of you to ask! I don’t really want to write a post about this, since it seems like complaining and doesn’t really fit with my vision for my blog, but since you asked I have a few suggestions. BTW, WP has many great features and I confess I’ve not figured them all out yet, so maybe some of these are there and I don’t know about it. Meanwhile, my wish list:
    1. The ability to use different fonts, without buying them. Heck, I would even buy them for a minimal fee, but the one time I tried to figure out fonts, I couldn’t.
    2. Ability to spell check when writing comments on other’s blogs. Invariably after I click post, I see some horrific spelling error.
    3. Ability to delte a comment that I’ve posted on other blogs.
    4. One of my widgets has not been working for quite a while – on top posts you can select the number you want displayed, but no matter what I select, it only shows 3. Requests to have this fixed have not helped.

I’d quite like to have a list of all posts somewhere (within the editing function of course) to make it easier to refer to past posts without having to go through all the archived pages … and the older posts within the archived pages. I know the list could be rather lengthy – perhaps within each category could make it simpler – then it’s up to us bloggers to make sure we’ve put them in the right category. Or is this already there and I just haven’t found it???

  30. I would like the ability to include Adsense Ads and I don’t think I’m alone. It’s tough running a small business and every penny earned is helpful in growing the content on our site which is designed to help others.

    Yes, I know there is a facility for this but only in certain circumstances and not all small businesses, like hometipster.com, can afford upgrades to allow this functionality.

    1. I’m with you here, as well. I don’t particularly want to run AdSense but I have wanted to join Nuffnang for a while now. While I love WordPress and the security I feel knowing my stuff is safe during a downtime, Blogger allows more freedom in template and design, ads and whatnot. I love writing and always associate WordPress with that but Blogger with fun…
