What do you want to accomplish with your blog?

Topic #102:

What do you want to accomplish with your blog? What is it for?

Bonus: Many blogs I see never explain to readers what the goal for the blog is, which makes it hard for people who stop by to know if they should come back. Write a post about your 3 goals for the blog, who you think the readers are, and what you’re offering them in terms of topics or themes. Then take a much shorter list of your goals, and include it in a sidebar widget.

  1. The blog I have with wordpress which is linked in my name is to accomplish the Post a day 2011 Challenge. I try to stay on the topic’s given, but sometimes get a nudge to go into a different direction. I do love to read, so all of the fellow bloggers in this challenge have creative sites, and wonderful contributions to share. I am just wondering if anyone has heard from ClassyRose? She was on a roll…may be on a vacation? Jackie 🙂
I have another blog: http://divorceissues.wordpress.com for anyone to share about divorce. I have been divorced 15 years or more, love law, and will share my struggles over the years as a single mom on that blog.

  2. Its a good idea to start a blog that is focused on a specific topic – but still wide enough to allow for frequent updations. In my experience, I have noticed that niche blogs perform better in search engines and for monetization/ discussion/ regular followers. Also, that is the first step to becoming a professional blogger.

    1. I totally agree with you on having a specific topic; not only does it help focus the mind and have a sort of unlying blog narrative, it also stops the blog being an extension of the Facebook status update!

  3. I think there should be some reason or rather a motivation for you to keep blogging/writing. It could be personal, for fun, educational, making money, or whatever. I do agree with ‘ES’ also that variation in topics is great to read, but as a blogger you still need some motive/goal as to what you’re trying to achieve…

  4. A good suggestion to do 🙂 I originally started my blog (http://ittakes10k.wordpress.com/2010/11/29/1-1-of-10000-first-batch-of-10000) to be a better writer but I never quite describe what’s in it for the readers / visitors – it’s time to do the packaging’s label 😉 This is the best time for my frequent readers to share what they think about my blog too 😀

Thanks to Jim Adcock and Scott for the suggestion! I will definitely write a post for this ♥

  6. Thanks for suggesting this topic. It’s made me want to really think about what I want my blog to be about. I haven’t properly answered the question; but it’s now started the cogs in my head turning! Ace suggestion! 🙂

  7. I started blogging again this past few months because I want to become more creative. I used to be quite involved in the arts – particularly performance – and blogging gives me a small way of feeling a little artistic again.

I know that having a commitment to blogging (whether that be photography, notes on life or something else) is really useful to me in developing my abilities. It’s also – as with most things creative – really great for helping me to switch away from real life.

I love the affirmation side of this, too – having a few comments is great and so I do try to produce things that are interesting for others to see and read.

  8. My blog is basically words & photos from a motorcycle-passenger viewpoint. Since we can’t ride every day, though, it’s extended into life as a non-stereotypical biker chick, thanks to postaday. When I started riding I couldn’t find anything written by passengers which is what inspired me to start. What do I want to accomplish? I’ve made a number of friends already and hope to meet more, I hope to entertain the people who read my posts 🙂

  9. I put all of that on the my About page when I first started blogging. I can’t stress enough the importance of the About page. Wait, maybe I can…*footstomp* There. It’s the first place people go when they want to know about the author or blog.

Thermodynamics is the science of energy conversion involving heat and other forms of energy, most notably mechanical work. It studies and interrelates the macroscopic variables, such as temperature, volume and pressure, which describe physical, thermodynamic systems.
