Topic #90:

Pick something that annoys you and redesign how it works.

Are you sick of the long lines at the DMV? Bothered by waiting in the doctors office without being told how long you have to wait? Pick something that annoyed you yesterday, and describe how you would redesign or change it to make your annoyances go away.

Could be a device, a machine, a process, a place, anything.

  1. I get really annoyed when people are too lazy to push the shopping carts back in the return area in the parking lots, and they just leave them next to other cars to get scratched and dented. Honestly I do not have a solution in mind for this, other than giving a fine (i know it sounds silly).

    1. I try to return carts to the front of the store, or at least to their parking stalls. I wouldn’t want a cart to find its way into my car, nor into someonelse’s either. Think of the damage, and then the inconvenience that can easily be avoided by taking a couple of extra minutes to do a good deed.

      oh well…not everyone thinks as we do, I guess…hugmamma. 🙂

    2. Carrefour here in Dubai charged a dirham to get a cart, once you return it properly you’ll get your dirham back. In a particular mall where we go for grocery, as soon as we get to the taxi stand, there are boy helpers that could assist in unloading the shopping goodies in the cab, he then return the cart for you, and he gets to keep a dirham. It seemed to work well and a cheap happy deal 🙂

  2. Smart whiplash comments from teenagers made without thought or care really annoy me. I know it’s a teenagers nature to explore their boundaries and grow as a person, blah blah, that might be a reason but it is not excusable. Therefore I propose all teenagers were a gag! Woop!

  4. Not being a technically minded person I cannot redesign my computer. I just have to accept it as it is. But it really does annoy me sometimes. It seems to have a mind of its own and it does what IT wants and not what I want. Sometimes I write things, usually some long script and I just get to the last bit and the whole lot disappears into oblivion, never ever to resurface. Now that really does annoy me!! My blood pressure rises to unsafe levels and I feel like throwing it through the window…..but what can you do when you love something so much ! Start all over again……

  8. @huffygirl–don’t usually rant on my blog…but the whole Internet would be better if designed so people had to write with a pencil on paper, use correct grammar and complete words, and lick a stamp and wait for replies. We all had more time back then…

  11. I would like to make meetings more efficient (meaning shorter) and productive. It seems like every meeting devolves into social banter, meaningless meandering discussions that go nowhere and no progress towards a decision or solution. How to accomplish this while giving everyone an equal voice is still a mystery.

  14. Two names have annoyed me royally this week: “geli-geleman” and “fasha-sundal”. They appeared in various bogus referrer URLs in the referrer log of one of my WordPress blogs.

    URLs of this type are called referrer spam or log spam.

    WordPress block the bogus referrers quickly after you report them, but shortly after they are back from new phantom URL. They annoy me.

  16. Wearing my life coach aka Pollyanna hat I don’t do negative so nothing annoyed me yesterday. the sky is blue, the birds are singing all’s well with the world with the possible exception of Egypt and oh perhaps the whole middle east, Afghanistan, Brazil, Nigeria, Rwanda et al.
