How’s your Post a Day/Post a Week progress coming along?

Congratulations to everyone who’s become a more active blogger since joining the Post a Day/Post a Week challenge that we issued at the beginning of the year. You’ve already completed a whole month of consistent posting!

If you’ve missed a day, it’s okay. It’s not about how many posts you can publish — it’s about establishing a routine that helps you to achieve your own personal blogging goals. If daily posting starts to feel overwhelming, feel free to adjust your post frequency. Whatever you do, don’t give up!

So tell us, what are your thoughts so far? Are you enjoying the challenge? What have you accomplished this month? What strategies and techniques are working best for you?

We’ll continue to post here every day to support you throughout this challenge. If there’s something you want to see more of, be sure to let us know. Happy blogging!

  3. I joined the Post-a-Week challenge, and it is going really great! Thank you for all your help and support, Daily Post.

Something I would like to see more of is creative ways to get our little community interacting with one another, maybe start a little game. For instance, if you’re name starts with A, tag a post with the letter A or the number 1, and then search for others with similar tags, and comment on their blog (e.g., how you found them, ask them about their Post-a-Day/Week progress, comment on their post(s), etc.). Anything really just to have fun and blog!

    1. Excellent idea. The comments seem like a good idea for community interaction, but they only seem to really work when there are a few posts (not large number like on this blog). Anything past the 4th or 5th comment and I start to lose focus.

    2. I love this idea – commenting on post is needed and this would certainly create dialogue with other bloggers on the same journey, of which, I totally enjoying, in-spite of missing a few nights. This has been great motivation and I agree with @vanessajaded.

    3. I love this idea! I try to read a bunch of post a day entries every day and do some liking or commenting, or even subscribing, sometimes! A game would be cool too!

  4. I am posting once a week. I liked your link to the history blog, where it suggested you note down ideas so they don’t slip away. The emails are nice and friendly. Short and sweet. It has reminded me to keep my blogs the same way. Plus, I have gained a few followers.
    Thanks guys.

  5. I’ve posted every day so far and it is truly challenging. I carry a journal everywhere ( a tip that lots of other daily and weekly posters have recommended) and take down ideas any time they come. In addition, when I feel uninspired or overwhelmed, I browse other postaday pages to show myself that it’s possible to post every day with something witty, honest, and somewhat entertaining. I even made Freshly Pressed! One month down, eleven to go 🙂

  9. It’s been an awesome challenge and my writing skills have increased exponentially in the course of a month. I’ve experimented a tad-bit with vlogging –though I can say I’m not a huge fan, it’s been fun.

I can’t wait for the next 11 months and I’m hoping I can get started on a novel (something I’ve always wanted to do) and use my blog as a source of feedback.

  10. Hi Erica, before the “Post a day/week” challenge, I had been wanting to be a blogger for several months. But, I hadn’t set a goal, nor did I have any structure or purpose for my blog until WordPress posted this challenge. So, I’d like to thank you, Scott Berkun, and all those involved!

Perhaps the most useful piece of advice I’ve received so far has been the importance of setting a word limit per blog. I believe I read somewhere (likely on WordPress) that the average reader maintains focus for about 250 words. After this amount, it’s best to break it up and create another blog. While my blogs have been above this (I’m averaging about 350-400 words per blog), just being mindful of setting limits helps me to write more concisely, succinctly, and without feeling like I need to write more than I have to.

    Keep up the good bloggin’!

  11. I need to learn to write shorter posts. My natural style is to write between about 1,000 and 1,500 words. I can see that I could and should write shorter posts and try and link them within my site.

  13. The WordPress challenge is absolutely brilliant; not only for making you write more but also making you realise there are so many great people out there. I have found so many interesting blogging buddies, through the challenge, and we all support each other. I no longer blog to myself and it feels great! 🙂 Thanks to all my BB for being such great friends 🙂 and thanks to WP for starting the challenge 🙂 🙂

    1. Great to see all my blogging buddies joining in this debate!

It is brilliant to be part of such a wonderful group of loving and supportive people. I would have given up weeks ago if it wasn’t for you lovely folks 🙂

Your warmth, your humour…and your pratical advice has kept me on track and like PIP says, it is great to know that our posts will be read by a motivating group.

Thank you all – for everything 🙂 xxx

  14. I’m doing PostAWeek, but exceeding the goals with at least two posts a week.

Week before last I did five posts, a bit of an overachiever for the PostAWeek challendg, but not quite enough for post-a-day.

I am “hampered” from more frequent posting by my commitment for making substantive posts on subjects germaine to my blog (average post is >500 words). But I think the less frequent posting enhances the quality of the posts – I am not posting just for the sake of posting.

That said, the encouragement to post more regularly is helpful for being more porductive, which in turn drives increased traffic to my blog and increases my exposure. I posted twice in November and not at all in December and my daily hit averages were 41 and 34, respectively. This month I made 9 posts and my average daily traffic was 65 hits. Not a linnear success, but my catalog of posts contunues to add to the base traffic every month, so every month it is easier to best the prior month’s totals.

  15. Hey guys,

It’s a hard job to keep two blogs up to date. Since I’ve got a Dutch blog and an English blog, it makes it hard to keep both up to date. I’m Dutch, so that makes it easier to write blogposts then writing them in English.

But I am saving a whole lot of drafts thanks to you e-mails. Creating a whole range of ‘to publish’ posts.

I really admire what you guys are doing! It inspires me and motivates me. My Dutch blog is moreup to date, but I am noticing more people start looking at my English blog aswell.

    Cheers!

  16. It’s a complete success for me. My goal is to write every day, and I’m certainly doing that. It’s much more difficult to sift through the dreck I wrote and find something mostly non-drecky to post, but that’s okay.

Thanks for the help, loving the challenge.

  17. I decided on a Photograph a Day post (cos I use Press This a lot for links and lols) then realised I have just broken my best camera! So it has become, by default, more a Diary Post than a Nice Picture Post.

I shall try to keep it up – an really looking forward to going through the posts after the year is over.

  18. After managing a month of PostADay, today I decided to switch to PostAWeek. With a job, family and everything else on my plate, I just didn’t feel I could maintain daily blogging and at the quality I would like.

Sorry if that makes me a big wuss, but I’m still blogging 🙂

    1. Not a wuss! Not a wuss! Like we said from the beginning, blogging 52 times a year is way better than 15, 5 or 0. Rock on.

  20. Three times a week has been perfect: every Mon/Wed/Thu at 5 AM HST.

I’ve been generating new posts from the search terms that readers use to find the blog. (The-Military-Guide.com) It’s a great feedback loop for figuring out what readers want, and it should keep me going for at least another couple years.

I wouldn’t be able to keep up with daily posts of 1000-2000 words, and I doubt that I’d be able to fully cover (or “dumb down”) a military-retirement topic to less than 1000 words.

Zemanta has been a big help with tags, links, grammar checking, and images. Thanks!

  21. I’m posting at least once a week, and posting much more musing type blogs rather than just my normal book reviews. I haven’t missed a week yet…but the test will come when I’m reading something that takes me longer than a week!

  22. I think one of the benefits of posting more regularly is not only that you establish a routine, but by being more active in the blogging community, you have the opportunity to check out some other great blogs and writers. I enjoy posting, but I also enjoy reading. Keep it up, everyone. 🙂

  23. I’ve been loving this challenge! I’m doing post a day and it’s an awesome way to let out my will to write. Seen I’m a bit of a compulsive writer it’s been a wonderful way to relax. The only problem I’ve been having is sticking to my blog team. But overall it’s been a wonderful experience.
I’ve even consider starting another blog and participating in post a week on that new blog by writing a fiction post a week.
Thank you WordPress for the challenge it’s been lot’s of fun!! 🙂

I’m proud of myself! I am meeting my goal of posting six days a week. I’ve collected about thirty of your prompts I haven’t used yet, but knowing they’re available is a wonderful security blanket.

My favorite part is the sense of community you’ve created by this challenge. Before, I might have feared being intrusive to announce a new post every day, but with so many of us in it together, I have permission! I feel joyful that I’m providing a service, if only by setting that example, as I support others in their writing as well.

Posting daily totally enriches my experience. Here’s more about what I’ve said about it: http://wp.me/pRP47-bY
