I’m having a hard time figuring out how to add videos, from YouTube, in my posts. I’ve resorted for now adding them as a text link. I would like for the videos to show back up as the video itself in the post like before, but I cannot figure it out. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Reblogged this on Gallery – A Demo Blog and commented:
It’s here! WordPress.com completely redesigned the writing experience for its users and along with it a more intuitive way to create Galleries. If you routinely use the default, in-editor Gallery settings, you may find this new method of creating all types of Galleries more responsive, no matter what device you post from. Give it a try!

I would really like to use this new editor since I like the design. But there is no button to insert a poll. That is, for me, a very important feature. So, I’m still stuck with the classic editor.
I never switched to the previous ‘new’ editor because of that, and I surely won’t use this one for the very same reason. I truly hope you will keep the classic one available.
It’s a shame really because I’m always for change and like to try new things. Always in the hope to find something better, but the polls missing is a huge fail.

It would be great if the tags, featured images and other options on the left side remained static so you could access them even if you’re at the bottom of your post. Other than that, great work with the new editor.

Is there a place to find the Short URL somewhere that I’m just missing? And, like the others, I’d love to see the Feedback function moved back in as well as the proofreading. Thank you all for all that you do. ❤

Aw bummer… but thanks Sheri. I’m still in the old editor because I like to tweak how it’s going to be shared before it’s published since I often schedule out posts, and whatever I type in the box then is what’s gonna be blasted. But thank you for the reply even though I posted it in the wrong place (I remembered “no questions” after posting. 🙂 )

Okay… I have had a chance to use the new editor on my writing blog. One problem that I had… somehow I deleted some text at the end as I published. I could not go back in the new editor and access previous drafts to restore lost content. And I could not access the old editor. Luckily I had taken a photo of it to text to my granddaughter who written the story and could see the missing part in the photo.

If anyone would like to read here story, here it is…http://tedstrutz.com/2015/11/16/best-friends/

This new editor is a nightmare. First of all, I cannot scroll down with the “page down” button; it just returns, over and over again, to the same place in the document. Even worse, the search function doesn’t work; nothing happens when I try to use it. So if I want to find the exact place I want to edit, I have to scroll down, using the scrolling device at the far right, since “page down” doesn’t work.

The old editor was really good. So can I at least switch back to it?

The first issue you mentioned is a bug. Thank you for reporting it. I have already filed an issue for that, and next we will need to wait for an update. The search problem you described may also be a bug but I would like to get more detail from you, such as your browser version. Please post in the forums and I will look into it with you.

Just used this and I love it! It’s streamlined and easy to use. One question though: can you edit photo sizes any more? I didn’t see the option. Maybe I just missed it? Thanks!

I needed to edit and had to search where to go, it was convoluted, but I found it. the whole ‘new’ reminds me of moving all my socks by color into other drawers and now I can’t find them cuz I don’t know where the lights are.

Is there a way to add a line around a photo? I can’t find the same options for editing photos that were there before. I figured out resizing but I like the polished look that line can give.

There is not an option to add borders to images in the new editor at this time. That is something we’ll consider adding in the future. While that is being worked out, you can either add a border using HTML (but this is not ideal), or you can temporarily switch back to the WP Admin editor.

The only thing I don’t like about the new editor is the Word Count is gone. I always liked to see how many words I’ve typed and if I’m going over 1000 words, my magic number for posts.

I don’t understand all the lavish praise bestowed on this editor. It saves automatically. So what? I never had any trouble clicking the “Save draft” button once in a while. The old editor was far better.

In your case, you have reported a few bugs (i.e. page up/down keys and on-page search not working as expected), and those will be fixed in time. While those things get worked out, consider giving it some time so that you can understand the benefits better after you have found the good changes this editor brings with it.

I like the new editor, but I really miss the ‘Custom size’ option with the images. Sometimes I have to place more photos next to each other and it is so annoying that I can’t set the preferred image size easily… 😦 And I really miss the link search for my pervious posts.
It would be so-so-sooo great if with the next update you would insert the font-size option in the editor because the basic font size is really huge, and I have to set it with html codes in each paragraph to make it readable. It takes a lot of time for me to make a post. 😦 Maybe is there an easier way to set the font size if I have a free version? Thanks a lot! 🙂

I’m putting my 2 cents in. I like the new editor, I think the auto save is a must have and always wondered why it wasn’t on the last update, as it was on classic, I will get used to finding things in different places, but really….what was the purpose in leaving out spell check and word count? I see you keep saying that that will be looked into, but I’m curious as to the reason they were left out.

I REALLY want the toolbar back for the HTML editor! PLEASE!

I’ve been using the HTML editor instead of the Visual editor in WordPress for like 10 years, so it’s deeply ingrained in my creative process.

I’m usually ok with most WordPress changes. I can adapt. But, there’s a difference between having the tools moved around and accessed differently and having the tools removed.

I’ve been using the editor in WP Admin because I really didn’t like the (old) ‘new’ editor. I like the streamlined, flat look! However it still seems that the ‘Get Short URL’ button is missing? Am I missing it, or do I still need to go in to WP Admin to get a short URL?

I’m confused on how to post photos. I used to be able to add by URL and the image would automatically be inserted. Do I really need to upload the photo to WordPress.com first? The uploading process was slow for my photo and felt more clunky than the earlier process.

Also, I post mostly photos. How much storage do I have? I liked the old way of inserting via URL because I did not have to manage photos in WordPress on top of the photo management site I use….

It sounds like you are linking externally to images. To do that, just put the image URL on a line by itself and it will embed automatically without clicking the Add Media button at all—which should be faster than before.

A WordPress.com blog comes with 3GB of space for free.

So I said I like it, but… I’m finding that it doesn’t automatically scroll down when I post long text! In the old editor, if I finish a paragraph and do a carriage return, I’m moved down to where my cursor is – the new one stays static and I have to manually pull down the browser scrollbar. Far too much of a nuisance, having to keep doing this every paragraph! I hope this is on your “to fix” list?

Finally some answers! I searched high and low to figure out what happened to my editor. I’m glad to know I’m not alone. Just a couple of thoughts. Bringing back the link search would be great; it’s a small thing that saves a lot of time when linking to past posts.

Also, the word count is indispensable. I’m stunned that this was removed or at least not considered as a priority. For now, I’m typing and editing in word and then pasting to WP, I would prefer that not be the case.

Otherwise, the updates are fine for my purposes. I appreciate you responded to all the comments Sheri, I’m sure it’s been…um..a learning experience.

One additional small, but impactful thing, probably just a bug: When inserting a link for the first time in a post, it used to be the case that if you check the “Open link in new tab” checkbox, the checkbox will remain checked for the remainder of links you insert in that post. This is a nice feature, as it saves a click if you insert more than one link.

The new editor looks quite nice but having a bazillion colors and buttons and options screaming in your face all the time making the space that’s left to write feel like it’s the size of a stamp makes writing absolutely horrible. My biggest problem now is that my photos do not enlarge when clicked on in my post. I saw the advice to click on the inserted photo and then click +. The problem is that all of them are on a marked – and the + is foggy and nonclickable. As I rely on photos I would like to know what I’m doing wrong. My old photos/posts still work (at least the ones I tried…). Please HELP!

To make it so the original image is opened when an image is clicked on by your site visitors, click the image then click the link icon (not the +) in the edit toolbar.

If the + is grey that means the image is the max size. If the original image size is smaller than the content width area, the image may not show up at full width. If you need further help, please ask in our forums.
