New Themes: Plane and Capoverso
Introducing two brand-new free themes for your blogging pleasure!
Today, we welcome Plane and Capoverso to our WordPress.com theme showcase.
Plane
Say hello to Plane, the newest addition to our theme collection. Based on the Flato theme by ThemeMeme, Plane combines clean and modern design and a classic two-column layout. With support for both a custom header and a logo, it’s easy to make your site stand out from the crowd. Plane is the perfect choice for a travel or personal blog.
Learn more about Plane in the Theme Showcase, or activate it on your blog under Appearance → Themes.
Capoverso
Designed by WordPress.com’s own Davide ‘Folletto’ Casali, Capoverso is a minimalist theme with strong typography, designed for those who want to make a bold statement in a simple way. The unique Front Page template allows you to display a large featured image of your choosing, overlaid with brief introductory text and a custom menu, allowing your readers to focus on your content by presenting them with the bare essentials. You can further customize Capoverso with a background, logo, or widgets.
In the designer’s words:
Capoverso was born as a minimalist typographic theme that could be massively customized with just a couple of images, allowing the expression of the author personality in a rich yet simple way. This shows at its best on the homepage: a full-screen image that has large text and the main navigation beneath. Just a couple tweaks and it’s really your theme.
Learn more about Capoverso at the Theme Showcase, or preview it by going to Appearance → Themes.

Excited to try this. So far, I didn’t find yet an ideal theme to replace my current one (twenty-fourteen) though I’m contemplating to use Misty Lake for a photography blog I’m planning to launch next year. Let’s see…

Does ‘Plane’ look very old school to anyone else?

I like them both. Now to make a choice is the hard part.

I agree with Emery that Plane looks very old school – but I like it!

Plane is now on my best free WordPress.com themes of 2014 list, not bad, and thank you for releasing another nice general purpose/versatile free theme; I was not expecting another nice theme like this to be released so close to the soon to be released Twenty Fifteen theme. 🙂

Both themes look great! Though I prefer the old-school Plane theme. 🙂

Capoverso’s title element background is a fixed size, not responsive to the user changing the default font size.

Where can I get Plane for my self-hosted blogs?

Plane is based on a free theme called Flato. It’s available for download here: https://wordpress.org/themes/flato

I actually found Flato, but I was hoping to get the enhancements in Plane. Is it not available for self-hosted WP sites?
