A New My Sites Section

Managing your sites just became faster and easier.

My Sites just got a new look, but more importantly, it got a technical overhaul, making the page dramatically faster and more powerful.

From one central location, scan and select any of your WordPress sites or create new ones with the support of a more visual interface. Head directly to the posts or pages of a particular WordPress or launch stats to glimpse trends and get inspiration for blog or website content.  Access themes, user settings, and sharing options with a click to make WordPress your own.

The new My Sites page is a small piece of a larger effort to make WordPress.com faster, easier to use from any device, and overall more wonderful. My Sites will be a hub for an increasingly seamless experience, so stay tuned for more updates, and please pardon the dust as we make a few changes!

    Sorry don’t like these blue screens at all. Don’t find that the new editor page makes things easier in fact the whole thing is becoming very disjointed. I work from the dashboard and can easily construct post from there in fact that editor I consider excellant. I think WordPress have had a brain fade or something! Hate the blue screens maybe they will end up with another Windows 8.

    Where’s the Dashboard connection? Like Ken(Bear)Judd, I work from the dashboard; check any spam comments etc And how do you just Visit Blog now?
    Also, why was the menu bar on WP Reader moved from the right to the left?
    BUT – I am in favour of anything that will increase the speed. Thank you for trying to improve our WP experience.

      Hi @scifihammy – You can access the Dashboard by navigating to My Sites in the top left-hand corner of the screen. Then, click the gear icon next to the specific blog and select “Go to Admin Dashboard”.

    Looks good so far. Going to take a bit of getting used to (I DON’T LIKE CHANGE WAAAAH) but as scifihammy said, I’m in favour of anything that will increase the speed.

    Another neat feature will be the possibility to add colours to each site. I’d love to give a different colour theme to each site or a group of sites.

    If you go to “users” you can get into the dashboard. I’m a dashboard person too for creating posts; the other methods are just irritating.

    Faster? Sure, having to click on the My Sites tab to then click a second time on the gear icon just to click one more time on the dashboard link, or, if you want, click a FOURTH time to select all the other options is MUCH faster than just clicking once on the primary blog dashboard link in the drop-down menu at my profile pic, a link that now no longer exists.

    I’ll just go straight to my REAL dashboard via URL or browser bookmark, bypassing the New Dash entirely and saving even more time.

    My problem with this, and the last few changes, is they seem to require more clicks to actually get anywhere – particularly the dashboard. It feels a bit like Windows. There’s all this shiny stuff on top and you have to dig under it to actually get to the nuts and bolts of working it!

      Thanks for the feedback here Graham! The overall goal was to create a more comprehensive view where you could adjust all of your blogs from one page. The gear icon on any of your sites should take you directly to the Dashboard. Alternatively, you can bookmark the Dashboard URL for your site if you want to go there immediately!

    Looks good. I have a problem with mine. I would be grateful for your expert advice. THe ‘LIKES’ from other readers has disappeared from my homepage. They only appear when I click on Comments. Any idea why this should be?

    Your new one looks better. In September I had a lot of problems with my WordPress site (blog http://www.tribalmystic.wordpress.com) and I asked for help from WordPress. I am disappointed to say that apart from very few comments from my fellow bloggers, NO-ONE from WordPress Tech offered me any help. I lost over 2500 followers amongst other problems and I ended up with re-building my site again with only 60 followers. It was like Facebook. It is great to be on it, but as soon as you have problems – no-one can help you. It is a very lonely platform, unless you have good blogging friends. I know there are so many people on WordPress that are great writers but are hopeless at Tech manipulation and problem solving just like me. If you could offer future help to people that have very basic technical difficulties, that would be so much appreciated. Human help that is. Thank you.

    I like that it’s more visual, but in terms of quick access to the most frequently used functions, I would prefer to have the Admin Dashboard as the primary link under the name rather than Stats and Customize, as I use the Dashboard more. Going via a Settings menu is not the most functional design, but the look is great! Thanks for trying to improve the user experience.

    I’ve got a question:

    I have 3 WordPress.com blogs and 1 WordPress.org blog. But I only see the 2 blogs in “My Sites”… And so I can’t see the extended statistics (countries and so on) for my self hosted blog! 😦

    What can I do? Please help

    It’s a mess I have to go three extra layers to get to something I could click on my image for OR right click and open in a new tab. I have yet to find new or improved tools there either.

    Also the move of messy menu items to the right side of the page on reader is horrid. You want the eye to be drawn to the posts not cluttered by …

      GEEZ!! It got WORSE since yesterday. I don’t get why anyone ever got rid of the wonderful right click on the image black bar thing, everything indexes out in nice tiny levels there and is simple. For those who have to view a too tiny screen because they cannot manage to sit down and work, let them mess with this new page thing, let the rest of us have some ease of working, reward for attention span.

          Yes! I can try. I understood it when I typed it, I swear I did! Ok. So before the change, one could click one’s icon image on the blue bar and go to the dashboard or own main page that once there the image on the now black bar (old one still contained all of the links that I might need and I could use right click open in new tab in it without having to leave what I was doing. I still like the functionality of all of that page and still navigate to it to avoid just about anything on the ‘blue’.

          I am thinking that perhaps you wanted a better explanation?

          I think it was more of a hover over my icon image that then showed me all of my blogs expanded to the left with the options that I wanted which I could then right click upon to get a new tab without losing the ability to work where I was already.

            Ah – I think we’re on the same page now. Previously, there was a link within the toolbar on the upper right-hand side that took you to the Dashboard of your primary site. Here’s the toolbar I’m referring to:

            That link has been removed in favor of the My Sites page. To navigate to the Dashboard now, you’ll need to use the gear icon on the My Sites page located on top of each site.

    The new look? It is like being on twitter. or worse Google+
    The extra click to get into the places you could see in one look before is a nuisance.
    If you want that extra click make it so after clicking the hole box. And then give a choice to view your page.
    Why fix what wasn’t broken just for a few extra clicks. You might be going over board here.

    y the way did we not have a page called Dashboard where we had all these new features and options.
    I prefer the dashboard over the new look any time. Which brings in that extra click mentioned in my previous comment. Sorry I forgot this.

    I have just had a look at my previous posts on the new impoved My Sites and I love the way they are displayed, with the first image in post shown.

    IF I want to, I noticed that I can still my posts displayed the traditional way in a list. It great that I have a choice “old way” or “new way”.

    By asking us to choose the site in the sidebar before we can get to posts, or dashboard, you’ve actually ADDED an extra step to the process for us. So while it may be “faster” to load for you, it takes us “longer” to get to the stuff we need to do.

    Possible solution: why not simply give us a menu of options (Dashboard, comments, posts, etc) when we mouse over one of our blogs?

    As a new chum to wordpress i am still grappling with how to do this. I just thought that when i opened wordpress i would go straight to my home blog not actually look for it.. Anyway the faster speed yippeee!!
    Can anyone tell me how to change the font i am using and the size?
    Also if I want to reference another blog or url do i just cut and paste?

    I wish that you would bring back the ability to easily get to the dashboard from the reader. You used to be able to to just go to your gravatar on the upper right hand side and hit dashboard now it is no longer there.

    Any chance you folks could move the “preview” button to that fixed top bar? I have to scroll the page allllll the way down to hit that, which is annoying, as I like to preview/read often during my writing.

      Hi Nilla! Can you let me know what editor you’re using? The URL should help you tell the difference:

      New Editor – wordpress.com/post
      Classic Editor – sitename.wordpress.com/wp-admin…

      The “Preview” button on the New Editor should hover at the bottom on top of your content so no scrolling should be necessary!

    Well, if you want honest feedback, I’ll have to say this is NOT easier or faster for me. There is no button for my dashboard. So if I want to add something to my media library or work on my widgets, for example, I have no avenue into my dashboard other than choosing something I don’t want to work on — like “posts,” or “menus” — to get me into my dashboard, and then I still have to choose “media” or “widgets” before I can do my work. (Widgets are included in the customize bar, but from there I can’t move them to “Unused Widgets” area or to other sidebars or footers the way I can from my dashboard.) So this is not really faster or easier. It’s okay, but I don’t see much point in all the fuss about changing it. Of course, there’s a possibility that I am missing something, so feel free to let me know if I’m the one not catching on.

    Wait! I have had tea and I now see, or functions have been added since my look-see this morning. There is a down arrow, for a drop down menu which now grants me access to Some of the things on the black bar dropdown and the dashboard. I appreciate this. I will play with it to see if I can do everything the same–task completion, but with a wee bit of hand-eye memory retraining. I still like the functionality of the black bar and drop downs once I hit my own page.

    All the tinkering was like fixing something that didn’t need fixing. I do feel that you are trying to make wordpress more like a social network than a blogging platform. The I tried the new editor and twice it didn’t schedule my post correctly. If anything work on the mobile app as that thing has a ton of problems. I will just bookmark the dashboard and go straight there and skip all this nonsense.

        Andy I am under no illusion that your are working hard fixing many bugs and for one who uses this service for free I am grateful. In saying this the changes that have been made are not making blogging easier but adding more steps into a process. On wordpress you write listen to your audience and give them what they want. Well the same advice is for the wordpress developers. Thank you for responding to my comment, I was not expecting it.

    Does WordPress even know they broke the Reader? cannot enter anything into the tag search, I mean I can type in a word to search for but it won’t let me hit enter, not on IE desktop or IE modern

    Also regarding those tag searches, when you enter one, they get added to a list below so you don’t have to re-enter them again. It behaves badly. Let’ say for example, I want to remove all tags from that list – okay done, now let’s say I add 10 new ones. Next time I load the Reader, I am back to an empty list again. But if I open the reader in another browser for example, those 10 are now showing. Sometimes, in the same browser – one moment I will have all 10 listed, and if I reopen they are gone.

        IE Modern – v11.0.9600.17351
        IE Desktop – same as above

        I would have sent a screenshot but I saw no way to upload an image and I didn’t think you’d want a link from OneDrive.

        I do not have Active X filtering turned on in IE (both) and I run no addons in IE or Firefox – all 3 browsers are vanilla.

        WordPress Reader works fine in Firefox, I’d just rather not use Firefox anymore.

    I see a few links on the left that weren’t there before, but I also see fewer links under the individual sites, while “stats” is useful, how often does one “customize”? And “dashboard,” the option I’m most likely to click, has disappeared. If you click “themes and customize” on the left, which blog are you theming and customizing? I’ve only got one blog, but if I had more, I would want to select which blog I’m dealing with first, and then select what I want to do with it, not the other way around. The logic is not there. You’ve traded efficiency of use for prettiness. It may look nicer on a smartphone (I guess, I don’t have one), but it takes me more clicks to get where I want to go. Thumbs down.

    Only a suggestion, especially in terms of accessibility: in My Sites where there are boxes for each of your WP sites, how about having a link to the dashboard beside “Stats” and “Customize” that says “Dashboard”. The gear icon can be confusing to some people, particularly new users, and I question whether the visually impaired using a screen reader would be able to know that gear is meant for the dashboard. Thanks.

    Count me as another person saying it’s not an improvement. Which considering it was not that helpful to begin with is saying something.

    Takes even longer to get anywhere useful, and it took too long already..

    “You can bookmark the page you really need” is a fairly lame response to that. Yes, we can and we have. But the fact that I’ve found it necessary to bookmark multiple pages to get around the admin parts of the site easily tells you the site navigation was a pain in the first place.

    Why is it easier for me to go to my browser bar, pull down a menu, and find the bookmark for WP page I want to go to in there than it is to navigate using the actual on-site navigation?

    I like it it’s great….thanks Andy !! There are mostly comments of missing dashboard link which they prefer but do they know that by clicking on ‘Blog posts’ takes you to the ‘dashboard’ link. I guess its not a big deal getting to the dashboard & I am pleased with the new layout & features. Thanks a lot for enhancing our WP experience!

    Out of curiosity, why is the text for creating a new WordPress.com site called “Start a New WordPress” Is it supposed to be that way or is “Site” missing from the text? Why not “Create a New Site” which is what people are doing anyways when they click that link.

    In testing this new interface, I’ve followed the directions and selected a site from the sidebar. The top item is a drop down menu where I select site. When I select a site, it shows up as being selected when looking at the tiles to the right. However, the Blog Posts, Pages, and Stats link point to my WordPress.com account instead of the site I selected. This causes confusion as I figure those items should point to whatever site I selected.

    I have several wordpress.com blogs but set them up with different user name/passwords. Is there a way to consolidate everything (I hope)? It would be so much easier to work from this overview site page.

    Failing that, I Blogged it, appealing to WordPress for help You will find that post on my blog.
    It was in September week of the 16th, 2014.

    This sucks. You took out functionality.. Now everything takes more clicks. How stupid. For example,….Before you went to my sites and clicked on change theme and you changed the theme. Now you click on customize and go to the page to start clicking and clicking to do the same thing.

    I bet your new designer is the guy they fire for designing windows 8.

    What is with the stupid two columns?

    Is was so much easier just to scroll down to your site, but if you have a lot of sites your eyes have to keep reading left to right as you scroll down.

    This poor design is nonfunctional, annoying and even more ugly than the previous design.

    Please revert back to the old design or give users the option to opt out of this crap.

    As many users like Graham Rutter complain: too many clicks to get anywhere… Me too, I prefer to work from the dashboard. And whats funny and what I dont understand: if I click on one of my sites in the upper left drop down menu, nothing happens? What’s that???

    I am still unable to access “my sites” using my iPad (since your update of “my sites”). A post which I had drafted I was unable to access and had to use my phone to edit and post it. My phone screen is far too small for me to use generally. Please advise.

    To be honest, I’m going to try and avoid these new pages as much as I can. More clicks needed to do anything useful. The new create a post page doesn’t make it easy to add media or links, and the new my sites section makes it harder to do anything with my websites.

    So far from what I am seeing it looks good. Change take time to get use to and I am sure as we get use to it we will not even remember the old way at all. Just as long as this doesn’t cause any major problems I am ok with change.

    I have already commented about there being too many clicks and if you have many sites you have to quickly read left to right as you scroll down.

    Instead of rapidly reading down a list that is scrolled before you.

    This sort of looks ok on a smart phone, but most folks don’t design pages on a smart phone.

    However, I would recommend that you put the old my sites functionality links in the new gear, instead of causing more clicks and a great deal of hunting around.

    For example, you used to be able to change the theme of an individual site at my sites by clicking a link under that sites name. Why can’t you add that to the new gear instead of making people click to the site and then go there and start clicking and clicking drop down menus.

    Personally, I think you should make this an option, but based on the tone of your responses it looks like that is not going to happen.

    your response has only made me reconsidered upgrading. Currently I have only purchase domains from you.

    I chose wordpress.com, because of the simplicity i had to build a lot of sites.

    More clicks is not simpler, faster or better.

    Not a real fan. It looks pretty, but, I’d really rather have a one-click link to get to my dashboard.

    Most of the improvements here over the few years I’ve been blogging have been very good. But, lately, it takes ten times the amount of clicks to get to where I want to be. I don’t like the new blue ‘new post’ screen — there’s no way to save drafts. And, it’s harder to read.

    The last few improvements seem to make everything slower, rather than faster.

    It seems I can’t reply to replies to my comments, so this is a follow up to Andy Peatling…

    Firstly thanks for a fairly constructive response. It’s prob not easy listening to a barrage of comments from users expressing their annoyances with the site.

    Let me say that while there are plenty of niggles and annoyances with the site, the value of WordPress is still great. The amount of workarounds that I need to use (e.g. bookmarking pages because the site nav is lacking) are comparable to other complex software, so while there is plenty of room for improvement, the state is certainly not dire.

    But a lot of the recent changes do seem to have a common theme to them, which for want of a better term we could call “Windows 8 Syndrome”. i.e. In trying to make things easy for casual users on smallish touchscreen devices, you’ve made things very clunky and inefficient for people that are working on a large screen, using keyboards and mice.

    The My Sites page for example is a total waste of the screen real-estate on a desktop, and forces two or three user interactions and two or three page loads to get to where the user wants to go, where one could easily have done. It’s not the only example where WP has been going that way lately.

    This is the same reason why people didn’t want to switch to Windows 8, hence the analogy.

    Sorry, Andy, my experience is like Ken (Bear) Judd’s, at the top of the page.
    Of course, I know nothing about the technical improvements. I’ll take your word for those.
    I use the “My Sites” page just for one thing: accessing the front page of my blog. I am satisfied with my blog now, so there is no point at all in having super-fast and easy access to starting a new blog, changing themes, upgrades, or customizing. Why did WordPress think I might want to do all these things very fast?
    I do usually want to see the Stats. But what is the point of having three different buttons to get to Stats?
    The new Edit page is a big step backwards for me. I NEED to copy the formatting of an existing post for nearly every one my new posts. I don’t see that the new edit page has that feature. Is it hidden somewhere that I can’t find it?
    Like others here, I like to work from the Dashboard. The dashboard menu is comprehensive, so I know that every item is there. That is not true of other ways of accessing the features of the blog. If the Dashboard is to be replaced with something else, then the new feature must be as useful as the dashboard is now.

    i really like this change. This is a great improvement. It works really well if you have multiple sites with multiple topics. The .org sites even list and tell me if updates are required. I can easily identify the site I want to administer and go there quickly. Great Job WordPress!

    New My Sites doesn’t render correctly in mobile IE, Opera Mini or UC Browser. Makes it impossible for Windows Phone users to view stats or edit posts. Problematic since there’s no supported WP app. Please fix. Thanks!

    Hi there! I need your help please. I have two issues; the first is I can’t seem to find ‘plugins’ on my dashboard anymore.
    The second is more technical – I cannot seem to ‘insert link’ when I write a URL link into my blog, therefore I end up writing the website name and then in brackets have to type up the URL. This doesn’t look professional at all.
    I use the wordpress ‘insert link’ option and have asked other bloggers what they do to add links and they do the same. Just wondering why this isn’t working for me?!

    Many thanks to Mikey, techy guy, who has helped me to get round e “my sites” issue, and assures me the team are already trying to resolve the “my sites” issue for those of us with older iPads. After. My fears that I had been left ‘high and dry’ it’s very good to know that WordPress take their customer support seriously. Thanks guys.

    My critiques:
    The new post screen seems a lot more finicky to figure out the same things that need to be done although it looks more visually pleasing. Regardless function over fashion is the motto I believe in. Glad the classic view is still possible.
    The new Sites page requires more clicks to get to the Dashboard. Please make that the easiest thing to do! That is the main use of that page for many users.

    I’m sorry, I don’t like to complain.. But I am quite interested in UI.. This looks great and all.. but There is a problem that I have.. http://prntscr.com/4zq4iq The Headers/Icons do not show up on some of the sites that are listed on there.

    This may just be a bug, but almost all my sites are like this..

    I hope you can show me how to fix this.

    Btw, it’s random, I have alot on the same theme.. They are showing on some of them.

    WOW! You certainly do have many comments to reply to! I have read most of them and am happy to report that I haven’t had any issues with wordpress as of yet :0) I am not super techy at all and I find it easy to navigate through all the menus …but… I’m also not in as much of a hurry as some might be. I like the changes so far, neat and organized… Well done! I guess you can’t please everyone all the time :0) It will all come together, that is what feedback is for.

    I hate it and wish you guys would stop tinkering with this kind of functionality. As a developer who has created and trained clients on more than 30 WordPress.com sites, being able to get quickly to the main dashboard (ie in one click) is the most important thing to me (and to most, if not all of them). I’m also a blogger in my spare time, so manage my own blog on this platform as well. My spirits sank when I saw this latest control panel ‘upgrade’.

    I am not going to read through the mountain of posts here. Not today anyway. I liked things – and the fewer steps to the critical Dashboard link – the way there were. They were just fine. The only question is Why? Hopefully, The answer is that geeks have to justify their paycheques.

    Regardless, I appreciate the free WordPress.com. Greatly. And I can still blog, although the previous big change was… evil. WP must agree, whether anyone will admit it. It was undone. Hopefully forever. That missing scroll bar was just too much to take. The torture is over. But it happened.

    The posting and editing in the newer format was timely…I had started a blog at blogspot ONLY for the ease of posting so much quicker but there we lack the community of which we are blessed with at WP

    And how tedious and counter-intuitive is that? Like many here, I work mostly in Dashboard, which gives me all that I need to control my blog, and what we want is a simple one-click method of getting to the Dashboard page. Please restore that.
