Add Gmail, Calendar, and Drive to Your Site

WordPress.com is joining the Google for Work Partner Program to bring the power of Google Apps right into your dashboard.

The content you publish on your site is the result of a lot of behind-the-scenes activity — and we’re not talking only about drafting posts and pages. Emails, meetings and events, documents and spreadsheets: as business owners and publishers you have a lot to juggle.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with Google to offer our users the incredible power of Google Apps for Work right in their WordPress.com dashboards.

A powerful suite of tools

With the Google Apps for Work integration you’ll be able to set up your own custom email address based on your domain, putting a professional face on all your communications. For example, if your custom domain is yourgroovydomain.com, you can choose an email address like requests@yourgroovydomain.com or team@yourgroovydomain.com.

The custom email address is just the beginning. Google Drive (for storing all your files), Google Calendar, Hangouts for group video chats, and more — all are now within easy reach of your site, and available on your desktop as well as your mobile devices.

Using Google Apps for Work alongside your WordPress.com site makes it easier and faster to work with team members, partners, and customers.

Set up Google Apps for Work right from your dashboard

When you purchase a new custom domain, you’ll now have the option to register your domain with Google Apps for Work. You can choose between a standard subscription for $50 per domain per year, or go for Google Apps for Work with unlimited storage for $120 per domain per year.

You can find all the information on setting up your domain with Google Apps for Work on our support page.

Note: Google Apps for Work is currently available for new custom domains only. Already have a domain? Stay tuned for a future announcement when we make Google Apps for Work available for existing domains as well.

How does the unlimited storage with Drive work? Does that carry over to your WordPress storage like for media attachments?

Nice! When do we get Google Analytics support? 🙂

This looks really interesting. Though I guess it will be of more use to businesses rather than individuals who write one or two posts a month, (like me)

I have a question that I hope is not totally unrelated. I have been running DadaMail for a “report” list for years–just a plain, simple mailing with quite a few followers. Recently DadaMail has upgraded to incorporate WordPress themes. My DadaMail is a free service, but the upgrade would involve paying for the WordPress theme.

How is that different than using the Google Calendar and maybe a few plug-ins on a regular blog?

Do we know if this still applies here: “Unlimited Storage (or 1TB per user if fewer than 5 users)”.

If this limit doesn’t apply here then it’s great deal for fewer team members.

Google Apps for work, especially email looks these days like the best choice for serious email managing. I tested many options, but this is overall really good solution.

I find it amazing that Google seem to be putting more effort into WordPress than Blogger. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I returned to WordPress recently. The updates and efforts you guys make puts everyone else to shame. Well done.

Can you tell me why this might be better for a Google user? Right now I can open a new tab on my browser and get Google for free. Why is this worth paying for beyond getting one dashboard?

Google Apps is a suite of productivity tools that include Gmail (email), Calendar, Drive (storage), and Hangouts (HD videoconferencing and chats) that you can use with your custom domain. So, for example, if you register the custom domain example.com to use with your site here at WordPress.com, you can also add Google Apps and get an email address using that domain, e.g., jane@example.com.

Google’s search engine (google.com) is indeed free, as is Google’s other basic services like Gmail and Calendar. Google Apps for Work is a way for users to have an upgraded, professional suite of all those services under their new custom domain.
